shows up 15 minutes late with starbucks
A part of her replied on instinct, simply continuing the conversation as if it was nothing.
"That is definitely true, unless I-"
Until the signal reached her brain that something was up. Just one word here. What. Really. What?
He was here too then. If her communicator hadn’t been replaced with a toy, maybe she would have been able to communicate with Oracle and learn that. Or maybe he was sent in here after her. … God, that was an embarrassing thought. Did he really think after all this time she still couldn’t handle herself? Okay, maybe she hadn’t found a way out, but she was working on it! Starting with breakfast! The most important meal of the day!
Either way, he wasn’t Batman right now and she wasn’t Batgirl. As much as she wanted to question him, as much as she wanted to know what was going on, she couldn’t outright ask it. At least until they went somewhere more private.
Still even then, like this she could properly talk to him and address him. Unless he was being even stricter on the secret identity thing than usual. Buuuut she was Stephanie Brown! Ex-girlfriend of Tim Drake, who was adopted by Bruce Wayne! So publicly, she should know him more than say, the average person.
"Have you even tried the local brew, Bruce? Seems a little outside of your price range. Like, way below."
Gotham City had its fair share of celebrities but none more famous than Bruce Wayne. In fact, his whole family was known throughout the city, and even outside it. He infamously disappeared for a time, with Gotham officials even announcing him dead. Then he returned, and instantly gained widespread fame.
In other words, he was pretty well known. So when she name dropped him, albeit without the formality(a refreshing change, actually), Bruce just had to smile. It was rare for someone to know him, let alone someone who could possibly from the same city he came from.
Pleased with her familiarity, Bruce shrugged with a sheepish smile on him. "Let's just say that... I've had to cut back on a couple of things so yes, I have tried the local brew."
"Several times, in fact."
Unknown to this girl, this Bruce Wayne's company went down a sink hole, thanks to a certain masked mercenary. All the once rich Bruce could afford right now were the little things. It was nothing fancy, but he could get by. He'd been in a rougher patch before. Much, much rougher. Like say a pit of a prison, with a broken back? He had to get out of that one, and he did.
"So, I noticed you know who I am," Bruce began, curiously, addressing the fact that this young woman knew him. "...Are you by any chance from Gotham City? I rarely come by people from the same city here."
