SHE IS ART These days beauty is being put into a confining narrow box. Girls have to have perfect eyebrows, perfect skin, make up on fleek, perfect shape (is there realy such thing, realy?), small waist, big booty,... All that jazz. But to be honest, I bet some of the models wished the looked like theire pictures in the magazines. "People often say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I say that the most liberating thing about beauty is realizing you are the beholder."- Salma Hayek. You.. We.. I.. Need to step outside that box. Beauty is much more than what you see on the outside. Beauty is every part of you. Your wisdom, love, talent, hearth, life, humor, honesty, spirrit, strenght,... All of this. All of what you are. So wether you have freckles on your face, crooked teeth,scars,..You are perfect! Sorry.. i'm LYING. You are imperfect, permanently and inevetably flawed and THAT is what makes you beautiful. REALITY CHECK: *Earthquake in Japan. Hurricane in Mexico. ISIS bombings in Lebanon. Bombings in Bagdad. Suicide bombings in Beirut.* All this happened on the SAME day as the attacs in Paris. Lets not forget all the other countries in war and trouble. For example Kenya, Syria, Burundi,... and PLENTY more. Don't get me wrong, what happened in Paris was evil, barbaric, cruel. It was an act by humans with NO humanity. And my thoughts and prayers go out to the people who've lost a loved one. Sinds Paris is so near by, I, We,Europe is extremely scared. Wich is pretty normal. But we have to realise that ALL the countries I named above and many more are living this day in, day out. THIS is theire daily struggle. Malcom X once said:" If you are not careful, the newspaper will have you hating the people who are being oppressed and loving the people who are doing the oppressing." Meaning that right now ALL of the medias attention goes to Paris but don't let yourself be fooled. Don't let what you see in the media be the only thing you see. Don't be blind! Blood is being shed everywhere. Don't forget to keep the other countries in your prayers and thoughts. "Be the change you want to see in the world."- Ghandi. We only have one world. This one. Through his ongoing series Golden Youth, Kruger documents new currents in Johannesburg’s youth culture. Artist Oliver Kruger finds his subjects in the urban metropolises of Johannesburg and uses portraiture to expand on the aesthetics and tradition of African studio photography. 

Kruger’s artwork is featured as part of Uncertain Terms, a group exhibition showcasing the work of fourteen artists from across four continents. The exhibition brings together a group of artists who engage with changing dynamics, either in response to formal issues of materiality within their practice, or as a reaction to broader socio-political themes. Uncertain Terms is on from November 27, 2014 to January 24, 2015.
