For you, this was hell. His touch was gentle. Fingers tangled in your hair, feather light. The night silent, only soft breathing and the rhythmic thump of his heart echoing through your ears.
He inhaled deeply, the movement of his chest making you blush even harder, no longer able to keep your own heart steady.
To him, it was heaven. A rare moment of peace and quiet, a moment to finally rest. And you. Finally, you. His content gaze fixed on your silhouette, illuminated by the candle slowly burning out on the nightstand. Having you so close, in such a vulnerable and intimate pose, was new. Strange. And yet..
His blood froze at the feel of your heart racing, and his low, raspy, voice broke the silence, making you jump slightly. "Is.. everything alright?"
"Yes.", you replied way too fast, cursing yourself in your mind.
The room fell agonizingly silent and you didn't know how much time had passed before he spoke again.
You both inhaled nervously, the simultaneous shaky motion breaking through any awkward thoughts and you giggled as the absurdity of the situation dissipated.
You couldn't stop smiling.
He scoffed, but you could feel the atmosphere in the room change as he smiled for himself in the darkness, the candlelight flickering and dancing.
You snuggled against him, and he accepted it, his hand moving from your head to your waist to pull you closer.
"You too", you said, as you closed your eyes for a brief second, before opening them again, wide and awake.
"The nightstand is on fire..."
