Mediated Performance - Statement

Statement

This project is the experiment and performance of the communication between people. As the communication get longer to reach to its target the message could change through the process. This is what the project will be showing how the message will be send from each person and the massage will change depending on the person experience of interpreting these messages. The most important part to this experiment, is that people will get to experience this type of communication because they will need to use different method that they don’t use in in their daily life.

Experiment of this project will be working with a group of 4 – 6 people. They will need to communicate to each other by using laser lights and leaving message to the next person. The task is that the first person of the group will get to listen to the sound that the project provided. Then that person will need to write or draw a message by using laser light to the person on other side. For the person they receive the message from the first person they will need to write or draw the message on the paper on the wall, this is to leave the message for the next people to absorb before sending the message to the next person on the other side. After the last person receive the massage then they will need to draw or write down on the paper on the wall. Once this experimental finish the first person who create the massage will need to come and check if the massage is right or have change over time.

Performance in this project is that 2 or more people will need to use different tools to communicate to each other thought the fabric. Sound that the project will provide is also part of the project. It is the tool to help creating emotion for the people to give the topic for the communication. The performance will take 1 -2 minutes for 1 set and for this topic will need 2 or more sets for compare the results. The performance is part of the experiment because the project is set to be a stage to watch people preform their method of communication skills. There will be a documentary about people who did an experimental thinking and to show how to do the performance.

Experience that people will get is that they will notice how the message will change over time with different people. The more people that the message have to go through, the more it will change bit by bit over the process.

Somehow I think using the soundtrack that I have been doing for the studio project might be more interesting. But it was kind of too late because we have been filming the documentary with this soundtrack already. I should have work on creating soundtrack earlier. Currently, I'm working on editing the video of our mediated performance that we will present it on the due date.

Undersight 2 - 18

I've been working on making a soundtrack. This was the result from what I've done.

I used the sounds from the internet that I found with free license and put it together. I had to make the sounds louder because the speakers we used for our game were not that loud. Therefore the noise from sounds was heard.

Undersight 2 - 17

Still finding sounds for the game. For this Undersight 2 I wanted to make soundtracks for it. I only used sound effects for the first Undersight, although it was creepy in a way, but I think soundtracks has more impact on player's nerve. For example I really like the soundtracks from the game 'ObsCure'.

Undersight 2 - 16

Worked on the door today. It should be the final 3D object that I had to create, if Austin does not need anything else, because I have to look up on sounds for our game.

The sound that we have decided to use was: Kosta_T_-_05_-_Will_be_war_soon from http://freemusicarchive.org/music/Kosta_T/NL/Will_be_war_soon_1157

The reasons we chose this sound because different sounds can be heard from this track. It also gives a creepy feeling (which I like it). Although I was thinking of using some other sounds that could be like a mix feelings, I found this track interested me in some way. It could also linked to our studio project, because that project was about a horror/creepy feeling as well.

Undersight 2 - 15

Austin suggested that I should make two more rooms that could be connect to the path way. So I did it, I just make more doors for these rooms.

Mediated Performance - 7

I've decided to use the invisible ink in the performance too. The idea for our performance was, there will be headphone on one side of the wall. The headphone will play a sound. That sound will be an experimental sound, the performer has to listen to it and perform the emotion that they thinks it was the emotion of the sound. Another performer on the other side will have to look at the signal of the laser that the first performer tries to relay on the sheet of the wall. The second performer then have to guess and draw the emotion of the first performer on the sheet using visible ink.

I believed the sound will gives each performer different emotion while they were listing to it. Therefore we should be able to see the different performance result on the sheet of the wall.

The wall is now completely finished. I helped Tony for a bit on making it, just holds stuff and get tools for him. Since the wall is finished, we should be able to experimenting some performance with it. I already bought 2 laser pointers, but I don't think it was enough. We were thinking of adding more things into the performance. I still likes the idea of playing with lights, because it looks beautiful. Since we decided to put more performing ideas in it, I have to do some more research on the light performing.

Undersight 2 - 13

Made a room for the maze today. Had so much problem with the texture. Always stretched and the x, y and z axis for the texture were messed up. I manged to solve the problems, it was not that hard but I just did not know enough about the 3Ds max function.

Mediated Performance - 5

The wall for this project that Tony was designing was 50% done. Although there might seems to be easy to make, but the hard part was finding the right materials and not too expensive ones. I will upload the photo of the wall that I've been talking about.

Up to this point, we were thinking of the suitable performance that we would like to show within our work. I was thinking of the light and Morse code communications. We could use laser pointer to communicate with others between the wall. Flash light also could be using to perform an optical communication. But on what proposition should the performer performs.

Working on texturing a character today. I was playing around with Photoshop, Unity and CrazyBump. It result was quite pleasing for me. It looks quite ugly and scary somehow and that was what I wanted.

Undersight 2 - 11

I created some props to decorated the game scenes today. Just to make the game's scenes looks more interesting. I was creating that hand torch, statures, poles and a tomb stone. It might more be necessary but it would make the game looks better in some way. I will create more if I have more time. But I don't want to put many things in it, because it might cause lags to the game.
