3. Can I be genuine and real â and just myself - with this person? Or are they likely to react if I share my honest thoughts?
4. Do they care about my feelings, my views and my opinions? Or do they treat me like an object, whose feelings never count?
5. Am I putting up with things because itâs started to feel normal? Am I scared that no-one else would really want to be my friend?

Relationship Truths We Often Forget
Itâs easy to make your relationships more complicated than they are. Here are ten simple reminders to help you keep them on course.
1. All successful relationships require some work. â They donât just happen, or maintain themselves. They exist and thrive when the parties involved take the risk of sharing what it is thatâs going on in their minds and hearts. Open communication and honesty is the key.
2. Most of the time you get what you put in. â If you want love, give love. If you want friends, be friendly. If youâd like to feel understood, try being more understanding. Itâs a simple practice that works.
3. You shouldnât have to fight for a spot in someoneâs life. â Never force someone to make a space in their life for you. If they know your worth, they will create time and space for you.
4. There is a purpose for everyone you meet. â Some will test you; some will teach you; some will threaten you; some will use you. Others will heal you, and help you see your strengths, and help you to discover your authentic self.
5. We all change, and thatâs okay. â Our needs change with time. When someone says, âYouâve changed,â itâs not always a bad thing. Sometimes it just means you stopped living your life their way. Donât apologize for it. Instead, be open and sincere, explain how you feel, and keep doing what you know in your heart is right.
6. Forgiving others helps YOU. â Forgiveness is not saying, âWhat you did to me is okay.â It is saying, âIâm not going to let what you did to me ruin my happiness forever.â Forgiveness is the answer. It doesnât mean youâre erasing the past, or forgetting what happened. It means youâre letting go of the resentment and pain, and instead choosing to learn from the incident and move on with your life.
7. You canât change people; they can only change themselves. â Instead of trying to change others, give them your support and lead by example. If thereâs a specific behavior someone you love has that youâre hoping disappears over time, it probably wonât. If you really need them to change something, be honest and put all the cards on the table so this person knows what you need them to do.
8. Heated arguments are a waste of time. â The less time you spend arguing with the people who hurt you, the more time youâll have to love the people who love you. And if you happen to find yourself arguing with someone you love, donât let your anger get the best of you. Give yourself some time to calm down and then gently discuss the situation.
9. You are better off without some people. â When you have to start compromising yourself and your morals for the people around you, itâs probably time to change the people around you. If someone continuously mistreats you or pushes you in the wrong direction, have enough respect for yourself to walk away from them. It may hurt for a little while, but itâll be ok. Youâll be ok, and far better off in the long run.
10. Small gestures of kindness go a long way. â Honor your important relationships in some way every chance you get.

Building Trust in Relationships
Trust is at the heart of all strong relationships. It allows us to feel safe and secure with one another. Hence, itâs crucial that we know what the key components are so we can actively develop, promote, and honour trust. Some tips to help you here include the following:
1. Be Reliable. Even small things - like canceling an arrangement or failing to follow through on a commitment you have made â will undermine and fracture the relationship. If this happens on a regular basis the whole foundation will crumble and fall.
2. Related to this, always strive to keep the promises youâve made. Trust requires that people believe you are a person whoâs dependable and reliable. If you have to break a promise, then be decent enough to explain face-to-face why you have to let them down.
3. Tell the truth. Itâs easy to resort to telling a white lie to protect another person, or to cover your back. But if you tell the truth even when it isnât pleasant, you will become a person who is known for being trustworthy.
4. Volunteer information. When you have the chance to be vague â donât take it. Instead be open and transparent, and share important details. Volunteering information says youâve nothing to hide.
5. Donât share other peoplesâ secrets; donât be someone whoâs a gossip allowed â as we only feel weâre safe with a person whoâs discreet. Remember: a confidence ⊠is a confidence ⊠is a confidence.
6. Display loyalty, and be there for that person. That shows that you are caring, dependable and safe.
âthere is nothing more powerful than realizing that your wholeness is not defined by anything but you. people may add onto the beautiful pieces that already exist within you, but nothing they do could ever complete you. the keys to your acceptance have always belonged to you.â
