Since March, most of these auto-rickshaws have been off the streets of Chennai. As much as the noise and traffic has reduced, their livelihood is deeply impacted. Most of them live on their daily earnings. And with schools being non-operational and also with work-from-home situation, their future is extremely bleak. . During the Golden Era of Indian motorsports, the local garages across India would build these single seater cars. They were totally build from the bottom-up. They were loud and noisy. Back in the day, we had an F1 car along with other Formula cars in the grid in Madras (Chennai). The big engines attracted thousand of fans to this little airstrip in Sholavaram. . This is in the ‘80s!!! The straight alone was little over 1km. And their speeds were little over 200kmph. . Now, we have taken a step backward in terms of fan participation. .
