A smooth sea never made a skilled sailor. It's true!
Adversity has made me strong; without it, I’d be a jellyfish.
The strength of a person can best be defined by the challenges he/she has faced in life and has overcome - and the magnitude of your challenges cannot be measured by anyone other than you.
Any time you use your obstacles as an excuse that prevents you from reaching your goals, you are defeating yourself.
Blaming others does not help.
Complaining about it does not help.
Personal accountability, gratefulness, will/drive/determination - these are the keys to overcome and have lasting joy and success.
The challenges that I am grateful to have overcome:
Drug addiction
8 1/2 years in prison
Homeless twice for over a year
Alcoholism
Broken hearts by many (friends and lovers)
I've broken hearts (which is worse)
Depression
Not being able to buy my kid Christmas presents
Being fired from a job when I felt I tried my very best
Lost several close friends way too early
Lost my father
Lost a marriage
These were all very difficult things for me, but they made me so much stronger. They showed me that I can overcome anything.
What big challenges have you overcome to get to where you are?
