MD5317 - My brief
For my task I decided to go with the brief, observing the differences between British and American beach cultures. And how American culture is alot more active that that of British holiday makers.

Where my tracks sit
Currently as it stands I feel that my EP is not ready for mass release I feel that overall we were very rushed in the studio as time was limited for recording. If we had more time I would focus more on vocals and tightening up everything. Once this had been done I would then begin to focus on our marketing strategy
The strategy
starting off with approaching our local BBC introducing station to get some air time. And local festivals and events. we will then try to move on to smaller independent playlists and youtube channels, continuing to build up and up hoping between the different sources that I mentioned previously as our audience grows and the sources and tastemakers grow with it.

More areas to develop
One of the more conventional places we could try to get our music on would be our local BBC introducing, this is a great platform for smaller bands and offers a lot of support for local music. they are also frequently visited by tastemakers trying to find new talents so this is a great way to start of our journey onto mainstream radio platforms
This is done through an application on the BBC’s website.
Festivals
Something that helped Fickle Friends and other bands of this genre get themselves out there was to get onto local festival bills and work your way up, “A new report found that there has been a 12% rise in audiences at live music events over the past 12 months” https://www.theguardian.com/music/2017/jul/10/uk-music-industry-gets-boost-from-12-rise-in-audiences-at-live-events Hannah Ellis Peterson, 10th Jully 2017 This is why it is such a great idea no matter how small the festival is you are more than likely to have new people come a listen to your music and possibly win them over into becoming a new fan . Again the first thing we need to do is find a contact for a festival that would be suitable for our size and genre of music. I would go about this by looking online at places such as Facebook for local festivals that could possibly host us.

Streaming
Another big area of focus that we could look at would be getting featured on some Spotify playlists that feature similar artists to ourselves. These have a huge reach as Spotify is so popular especially for people who are looking to discover new music. We have done some research into the people who curate some of these playlists,
https://workhardplaylisthard.com/blog/2017/9/30/7-spotify-playlist-curators-you-can-submit-your-music-to-for-free
By contacting these people we may be able to get ourselves onto one of these lists or even another one they know of which is similar. Other tastemakers may find it from here too and incorporate it themselves.
This is a smaller example of a curation platform than the previous one which is definitely more likely at our current stage.
Independently created playlists
This style of independently run playlists and many others that are out there, would be much easier to get in contact with as they are made by regular people instead of by Spotify’s in house curators. Especially since there are some smaller independently run playlists with fewer followers always looking for new music
Other areas of media consumption online
As well as Spotify playlists there are sites such as Apple Music and other internet radio stations. However another unique option would be in games that use real world music such as Fifa, if we were able to find a game looking for our genre of music, especially indie developed titles looking for smaller more accessible music, it could be possible to get featured on their playlist as long as we approach their tastemakers properly.
Another avenue similar to this is the uprising in independent film and television shows which are always looking for music and could definitely be achievable if we find the right projects.
