“Well, happy birthday, Liam.” Chris said with a smile. He took the slice of cake and picked up a fork to take a bite of it. “This is actually really good.” He said with a soft chuckle as he still had cake in his mouth. Christian shrugged and waited until he had swallowed the bite of cake before he spoke again. “It’s your birthday, you should do more.”

“Thanks.” Liam said and offered Christian a smile before he began eating his slice of cake. It was better than what he had anticipated, but he knew he wasn’t going to eat much of it. His work out regime wouldn’t allow it. “I don’t exactly have anyone to do more with.” Liam admitted with a shrug of his shoulders. “My mom is working and one of my only friends, Caleb, is busy. So there’s not really much for me to do.” He explained. “I normally don’t even celebrate my birthday.”

Christian put down the slice of cake and shook his head, there was no way that he was going to let Liam spend his birthday with just a store bought cake. “We have to do something, even if’s just bowling or I don’t know... whatever else you might want to do.”

“Survived another full year?” Christian asked raising a brow in confusion that cleared up as soon as he saw the cake. “Ah, birthday.” He said with a smile. “I’d love a slice. Is this all that you’re doing?” Chris asked the younger male he trained from time to time.

“Yep. Birthday.” Liam nodded slowly as he glanced towards the cake. He picked up the nearest knife and made a couple of cuts into the cake. He grabbed a small plate and placed a slice on it and pushed it towards Christian. “There you go.” He said with a smile. “Yeah, I guess. I don’t have anything else planned. Why do you ask?”

“I survived another full year.” Liam smirked as he glanced down at his store bought cake in front of him. He figured he could at least celebrate on his own. He didn’t expect anyone else to celebrate his birthday with him. “Not that I wouldn’t. Although, this place has been pretty crazy since my last birthday. Who knows what could happen next.” He shrugged his shoulders. “Would you like to share this cake with me? I definitely shouldn’t be eating all of it on my own.”

He didn’t know how she felt, he had never been in the position that she was in, but what he did know was that she was hurting and he didn’t want her to be. “Maybe.” He replied “Would you like that? Or would you rather I call someone else to be with you? Tell me what you want and I will do it.”

Larissa shook her head. “I want to be with you,” she replied, truthfully. After all, he’d always been there for her – teacher and friend wise. Her eyes met his and she tried her best not to cry even more as she thought about ways to rectify her situations. There wasn’t any though, because the only thing that would make her happier would be for at least some closure on why Jared had been taken away so abruptly. “I want you to take me to the edge of town and past the border,” she mumbled quietly. “Then say a big fuck you to the government.”

He had never liked to see someone in pain, whether physical or emotional, and he especially didn’t like seeing Larissa in pain. She was someone he cared about and he knew that she was a good person that didn’t deserve to be hurting. "We can do that, we can go there and for a while just forget where we are.” He said giving her a small smile. “Come on, let’s get out of here.” Chris took her hands in his and his smile grew wider. “You will overcome this, I know you will.”

Christian had been called and told that one of his students was in need, no matter who the student was Christian would be there, but when they said Larissa’s name he rushed to the cafe. He stood next to where she was sitting and listened to her go on about her boyfriend and how this place had just gotten worse. The man knelt down next to her and searched for her gaze. “You could do either one of those things or I can offer you a third option.”

Larissa sniffled, shifting in her seat a little as her friend and teacher approached. It took her a moment to meet his eyes, and she tried to be grateful that he had in fact sought her out. “What’s the third option?” She asked, slightly intrigued although she knew nothing could make her forget that someone she thought would be the love of her life was now nothing more than an ex. “Are you going to whisk me away from here, Chris?”

He didn’t know how she felt, he had never been in the position that she was in, but what he did know was that she was hurting and he didn’t want her to be. “Maybe.” He replied “Would you like that? Or would you rather I call someone else to be with you? Tell me what you want and I will do it.”

“Is that why you went in to your profession, because you’re a better listener?” He asked the woman. “You know, listening is also hard so you should get some sort of medal or something.” He said with a smile and shrug. “I suppose that I could try that… the rambling on, I mean.”

“I like to think i’m a woman of many talents Mr Ruiz.” she’d chuckle softly before taking a sip of her drink. “I think having people trust me enough to open up to me is award enough, unless you want to buy me flowers i won’t say no to flowers.” she’d grin at the other listening to what he was saying. “I find it quite easy after a while, as you can probably tell.”

“Really? And what other talents are you hiding?” He asked offering her a smile. “I mean, sure that can be rewarding but you deserve more. Not everyone would have the patience to just sit there and listen to random people go on about their day.” He explained. “I’ll be sure to bring flowers when I go in for my session.” Chris added with a smile. “What, to ramble on? I don’t think you do that.”

Christian scoffed at the man’s words and shook his head. The man clearly had no idea who he was talking to. “I’ve kicked the ball around a bit, not that great at it, but it might be fun.”

“A bit? That’s it?” Zane asked as he raised his eyebrows. “I guess I can tone my skills down a little for you, if you’d like?” He smirked as he moved the ball with his foot slightly. “Do you want to play half field or whole?”

“Yeah... not too big on the sport.” He said with a smile knowing full well that he was lying. “If you could do that, I would greatly appreciate it.” Chris replied. “The whole field, you know so I can get a little work out.” He said as he walked towards the field.

“Never said you were.” He said with a chuckle that matched hers. “Is this fight with or without powers? Because you are clearly wrong. Cookies and Cream is the best ice cream flavor.”

Crystal would grin at the other. “Lets just agree to disagree.” she’d raise an eyebrow at the other thinking of a solution that both parties would be happy with. “What if we ordered both, mixed them together and then shared?”

“I can agree with that.” Chris chuckled lightly. “Hmm now that’s a solution. And then after you try cookies and cream you will realize that I was right all along.” He teased.

“I don’t know what’s more inappropriate, getting roaring drunk and shouting at government officials or getting all hot and heavy with the first guard I see. Because I could do both right about now. You know, because they’re all big and muscular, and authoritative… much like my boyfriend.” Larissa paused, before emitting a laugh – forced, and covering a sob. “Oh, wait. I don’t have one anymore. They transferred him, so I’ll never get to see Jared again.” It wasn’t completely apparent whether or not she was talking to anyone in particular or just rambling to herself while slouched on the couch in the corner of the coffee shop. She sighed, with her eyes cast downwards as she willed herself not to cry anymore. “Who knew this place could get worse, right? You think you’ve finally found happiness, then poof. It’s gone.”

He hadn’t played soccer in a while and today he had the urge to. “Or are you afraid that I’m better than you? Which is quite possible. I’m great at everything I do.”

“Wait, you know the meaning of sarcasm?” He asked with a smirk on his lips. “So what are you trying, but failing, to be flexible at?”

“Yeah, surprisingly enough i’m not a complete moron.” she’d chuckle softly at the other. “I’m just saying chocolate ice-cream is the best flavour and if anyone thinks otherwise they can fight me.”

Chris took in a deep breath and ran his hair through his short dark hair. He hated the idea of opening up to people, he had never been great at it and while he knew Rhea he didn’t really know her. Sure, she was a professional so she wouldn’t judge him, but what if she did? “What do I even talk about? How my day is going?” He asked with a shrug. “I’m going to be really bad at this.” Chris mumbled.

“I’m not really good at talking to people about my issues i’m better at listening but i think if you just start rambling something important might seep its way through.” she’d shrug her shoulders hoping her words would inspire the other to open up to her. “Everyone’s bad at everything to begin with it just takes time and practice.”

“Possibly.” Crystal would shrug her shoulders looking over at Christian. “Maybe i was being sarcastic in a humerous way.”

“Monday works.” Chris replied. “I would honestly be happy with no chat, but I know that it’s mandatory so I guess a chat would work… or maybe a something else? I don’t know, Rhea, I’ve never done this.” 

“I know that’s what most people prefer, but can i tell you a secret?” she’d grin at the other. “I’d prefer not to get introuble off my supervisors for allowing patients not to attend sessions.” she’d chuckle softly at the other before a frown played on her lips. “Slowly but surely it’ll become easier, the talking that is..”

“Huh… this is true. I guess I have to do a pros and cons list and see what I prefer, if seeing your name on my phone screen or seeing you smiling at me.” He said in a teasing tone. Larissa was more than just a student to Christian, he considered her a friend and she was definitely someone that he liked spending time with. “You’ve never jumped off of it?” Chris asked with shock in his voice. Most people had done it at least once. “I can’t promise that the government hasn’t put one in, but I can promise that I will use my power to keep even the smallest of fish away from us.” He said as he began to walk towards the ice cream parlor. “I find that hard to believe, I bet you had a line of guys just waiting to dance with you.” 

Larissa smiled, as she was hoping to give him the answer right there and then. “Do you really have to make a list?” She said, as she wrapped her arm around Christian’s and began to follow him towards the parlour. It was rare that she caught him off duty, and in a way was grateful that she had such a close relationship with her teacher. Despite what others said – claiming she was only close to him for academic gain, but that couldn’t be any further from the truth. “Why is that surprising? Do I look like some daredevil who’d jump into a possibly shark infested basin?” she teased. Shaking her head, she laughed at his remark. “Yeah, but I wanted to dance with you. And I was very disappointed to find you not in that line You owe me.”

“I do… okay maybe not really.” He replied. “You know that I enjoy seeing your smile.” Christian added as he turned so that his gaze was meeting hers. Larissa was someone that Christian cared a lot about, maybe more than he should, but she was different than most of the people in Lake Grimstone and she didn’t see him as just a teacher, she saw him as so much more than that. “There are no sharks there… it’s a lake. Unless someone used their power.” He chuckled. “And maybe not a daredevil, but maybe people pressured you in to it? That’s how I first jumped.” He chuckled as he recalled a friend teasing him until he jumped off the waterfall. “I would have stepped on your toes and no one wanted that to happen.” He said with a shy smile on his lips, he wasn’t the greatest dancer, in fact he wasn’t a dancer at all. “My feet are better when there’s a soccer ball attached to them.” He added. “How can I make it up to you?”
