We have been busy filling the walls with our students’ work 🌟
I was recently commissioned to write an article for Nikon Pro magazine, to discuss online vs. physical exhibitions. Thank you to Antonia Stemp.
In print! Thank you to Tom @ Open Doors.
Thank you so much to everyone who came along to the opening & Miniclick talk at Alexander Missen’s exhibition at the Fishing Quarter Gallery this week. We hope you enjoyed the evening & thank you so, so much for your support. Thank you Spectrum for being amazing & making this happen!
I am so pleased to finally share this! Since last year, we’ve been working so hard on the upcoming exhibition and hope that you will all join us for the PV and Miniclick talk with Alexander Missen on Thursday 19th April.

Alexander Missen’s practice centres around investigating how imagery both informs and is informed by culture. In Common Futures, Missen attempts to depict the visual language of the future, looking at why we deem some designs and imagery to be perennially modern, often regardless of their age or application. In finding a nominal sense of likeness between things that initially seem unrelated, we are better able to understand what drives our shared cultural convention of referring to something as ‘futuristic’.
I recently spoke to Maria Lax about her work for Open Doors, read the interview here
Thank you to Hannah Abel-Hirsch at the British Journal of Photography for such a lovely interview, it is a pleasure to be in such great company!

I’m really pleased to be curating an exhibition of Alexander Missen’s work at Chloe Juno’s wonderful Fishing Quarter Gallery in Brighton! We’d like to thank Spectrum for all of their support. Details to follow shortly.
Thank you to New London Architecture for including our project in London's Towns: Shaping the Polycentric City exhibition.

“Colour in Romford aims to turn Romford into an open air gallery, taking art out of the traditional ‘white cube’ gallery space, and bringing it to people’s doorsteps. Over the past two years 13 murals have been commissioned...” Read more here

Painted by Ben Eine, in collaboration with Amnesty International as part of their new ‘Brave’ campaign. Ben voices his support for those bravely speaking out around the world, celebrating the courage of people who stand up for human rights. Thank you to Adam Forrest for featuring us in The Big Issue.
“Shimmering and Dirty”
Ben Eine x Underworld x Colour in Romford
Artist Ben Eine is most notable for his alphabet lettering on shop shutters in East London and in 2010, his work 'Twenty First Century City' was gifted to Barack Obama by the Prime Minister.
With Ben on board our project, our thoughts turned to what message could be displayed across Romford’s wall. Karl Hyde, of dance duo Underworld, has always been proud of his Romford roots, saying that ‘Romford has got an energy about it. It’s my New York.’ and mentions Romford in the iconic 'Born Slippy' from the Trainspotting soundtrack. Lyrics 'Shimmering and Dirty' were chosen by the public and are now immortalised in town, with Underworld commenting: "It's a huge honour".
On top of that, Lonely Planet even featured it! Such an accolade to see the world’s largest travel guide publisher coming to Romford!
So proud to see our Made Public #ColourInRomford project is featured in Sadiq Khan #crowdfundLDN video!
Check us out in The Resident! #MadePublic #TheRetailery #ColourInRomford
I’ve been working really hard to make my classroom look less like a traditional classroom and more of a studio. It’s still a massive work in progress but for now I’m super pleased with all of the white shelves and the lovely publications that fill them.
I had a wonderful time delivering a presentation about Colour in Romford at the Open City Makers skills crowdsourcing event. Thank you to everyone who offered to support our project and congratulations to everyone who presented that evening.
Found a home for this cute owl, a present ahead of graduation number 3! I am very much enjoying a stress-free life post-PGCE but I'd still really like to do a PHD next, I'd like to do some research into widening participation within arts education, just putting that out there in case anyone knows of any funding / scholarships!
