About us

Adoption Policy

We are a home based small animal rescue in Chilwell, Nottingham.

We are non-profit and operate on vegan ethics.

We take in small animals and find them loving homes, we're currently mostly catering for rabbits & guinea pigs.

We always spay/neuter & vaccinate rabbits.

Any questions feel free to email us [email protected]

If you are interested in offering one of our animals a home, email us at [email protected] and we will send you an adoption questionnaire.

If you haven't already got a set-up for the animal you are wanting to adopt, we are happy to give advice as to what we believe is suitable.

We don't home animals to children to teach them responsibility. We are happy to home to families as long as the adults are wanting to care for the animals too, often children get bored which is one of the reasons why so many animals end up in rescues

Finding good homes for cats in need. If you feel you can offer a home to one of our cats, please view their photos and read the information contained in our “Adopt a cat” section. You can also come to the adoption centre (closed wednesdays) to see the cats we have available for adoption.Adopt a cat CATS PROTECTION MAINTAIN A STRICT NON-EUTHANASIA POLICY - CATS ARE NEVER PUT TO SLEEP EXCEPT ON VETERINARY ADVICE. Due to this policy, we always have a waiting list for cats to come into the centre and we have to wait for a cat to be rehomed before admitting another cat. If you need your cat to be rehomed, call the centre during our opening ours and you will be placed on the waiting list until a space becomes available. Neutering Supporting and encouraging the neutering of cats. Please phone the helpline on for advice on neutering.Neutering   03000 12 12 12 Information Improving people’s understanding of cats and their care. Animal Rescue Spotlight - Highlighting rescues where you could possibly make a Christmas box of Essentials for a rescue centre

Today’s Rescue is - Vale Wildlife Hospital

Vale Wildlife Hospital started in 1984 in our family home (right) in the village of Cropthorne in Worcestershire. Although I had always had an interest in animals, I had never really given any thought to the difficulties that wild animals encounter when their paths cross with ours. Everything changed the day a local vet contacted me to ask if I would look after an injured tawny owl that had been taken to his practice.

It made me think about the huge number of wild animals which must be suffering out there, with no-one to help them despite most of their injuries being caused by humans, albeit unintentionally most of the time. From that day, I was determined to do what I could to help these casualties. Fast forward 8 years, with a long story including many highs and even more lows in between, and in 1992 Vale moved to the present site in Beckford, between Tewkesbury and Evesham. The house was sold and the money was used to buy a mobile home to live in, with the remainder of the money going towards the buying of the land and various other equipment, aviaries and enclosures.

The land we purchased was literally a ploughed field without even a blade of grass on it. We had to seed the whole area by hand and wait for the grass to grow before we could do anything. Our first ‘hospital’ was a 16′ portacabin which was replaced by a much larger, ex-builders workshop donated to us the following year (pictured below). However, after a few years the portacabin started to fall apart and more decisions had to be made about the future of Vale Wildlife.

In the late 1990’s we were granted planning permission for our present hospital building and we set about raising over £200,000 to achieve this. We moved in to our new facilities in July 2001.

Due to the nature of the work that we do, we are NOT open to the public. Stress can kill a wildlife casualty and therefore human contact must be kept to an absolute minimum. Our annual Open Day gives you the only opportunity to see what goes on behind the scenes.

Vale Wildlife celebrated its 30th anniversary on 6th June 2014. Please help us to help Britain’s wildlife for the next 30 years by Donating below.

Today’s Rescue is - Ferne Animal Sanctuary

Ferne Animal Sanctuary was founded by the late Nina, Duchess of Hamilton & Brandon at the beginning of the Second World War. Her aim was to provide a temporary refuge for the animals belonging to service men and women who were shipped abroad to fight. Inevitably at the end of the war many owners failed to return to collect their pets and so the story of Ferne Animal Sanctuary began.

75 years later the Sanctuary is still acting as a refuge for animals of all shapes & sizes from across the county and beyond. It is perhaps sad that there is still a need for an organisation like ours and that this need gets greater year on year however we are exceptionally grateful that through generous donations & volunteer support we are still able to fulfil this vital role. We hope the Duchess would approve!

Today’s Rescue is - Animal Concern Cumbria

 Animal Concern Cumbria is a small local charity which helps to find new homes for neglected or unwanted animals. The Charity is self-funding and is run largely by Volunteers. This website deals with the West Cumbria branch which rescues and rehomes dogs, cats and, occasionally, small animals. The branch is now based at our new site near Egremont.

Today’s Rescue is - The Animal Sanctuary

The Society was established in Manchester in 1927. A move to Wilmslow in the late sixties enabled the creation of the Society’s own Animal Sanctuary.

The founding members were passionate about helping people, especially the young and disadvantaged, develop  and compassionate character by a deeper understanding and compassion for animals, which would in turn benefit the whole of society.

The early days

In the early days the Society rescued pit ponies from the mines of Lancashire but today the Society pursues its original aim by providing care for many different animals. Those that come to the Sanctuary are unwanted, abandoned, or homeless. Cats, rabbits, pigs, hens, horses, ponies, donkeys and other animals find peace and security with us. Many, particularly cats and rabbits, are found new homes but some become permanent residents and for them the Sanctuary will be their home for the rest of their lives. Our small team of staff who look after the animals are helped by volunteers who give their time to help us.

Future plans

The Sanctuary requires constant work to comply with increasing animal welfare and visitor safety standards. The Society has plans in place for the future and with sufficient finance will be helping animals and promoting humane principles for many years to come.

Education

The Society has worked with a large number of educational organisations in the Manchester and Cheshire areas over the years, most recently, a project with Castle Hill High School, Stockport.

Today’s Rescue is - The Ark Animal Rescue

The Ark was established in 1986, by Mrs Pauline Rice, with goats, sheep and a few dogs and cats. Over the past 26 years, Pauline, along with a dedicated band of helpers, has changed the lives of so many animals for the better.During this time a multitude of animals have been given loving homes, and other animals, which are not really suitable for re-homing, have made their home here, at the Ark.Many of the animals who come to live in the Ark are old, ill or have been cruelly treated. They come to an environment where they are protected and loved. We will do anything we can to make them happy for the rest of their natural lives.

Although the majority of animals we help are cats and dogs, we also take in rabbits, guinea pigs, ferrets and many types of small furries e.g. mice, rats, hamsters, degus, chinchillas, as well as ducks, chickens, cage birds, horses, and we even had a pot-bellied pig for a while. We don’t just give them a roof over over their heads and food, but grooming, cuddles and attention, regular handling and where needed, we start rehabilitation programmes to address issues and make their rehoming a more likely event. This is most successful amongst the dogs.

The Ark is funded by donations and funds raised by a wonderful team of animal lovers. The more funds we raise, the more animals we can save and give a better quality of life. Every penny raised is spent on food, veterinary care, housing and, when necessary, heating for the old and unwell.

A family owned kennels, who for over 20 years have taken in the strays and abandoned dogs found on the streets of Hull. We provide a safe haven for all dogs that are collected by the Council’s dog wardens regardless of what type they are.

Whilst in our care every dog receives the very best in medical care, attention and TLC. We ensure those that are not reclaimed, are cared for whilst we attempt to find them a new family.We only ask for a small donation for our dogs, which includes your new family member being micro-chipped. We want to ensure all dog lovers can afford to get a new four legged family member.

To ensure your dog is safe from disease, ‘Haven Veterinary Group’ - http://www.havenvetgroup.co.uk - offer a special affordable rate for your dog to be vaccinated.

Whilst we provide you with images of the dogs we have at our centre, it is important that you visit us so you can get a better idea of the dogs temperament and your compatibility with your preferred dog. Information about the dogs we seek homes for, are naturally vague, and are based on observations whilst the dog is in our kennels. Many dogs find kennels stressful and consequently they do not give a good impression when you visit. We would appreciate your understanding this, and persevering with your potential new familt member. You can take them out into our fields and gain their trust, and we can arrange for the dog to visit your home to ensure you are all compatible with each other.

“Bruno is a 1 year old male x breed, he is quite a big dog with growing room so will be a large dog when fully grown. Bruno is very excitable and loves to be around people, playing and going for walks. He has been intorduced to both male and female dogs and seemed to get on okay with both. We feel a home with older children over 16 would best suit Bruno as he is big and strong and can be quite boisterous at times when he gets excited. If you feel like you could offer Bruno a new home please contact the kennels.”
