               “ so... ” maya nudges the other with her elbow, an awkward move. “ what are you going to do for christmas? or do you celebrate... hanukkah? ”

           “ you have my word, noah. ” maya assures him, a final kiss being pressed to his temple. she may not believe in promises anymore, but she wouldn’t leave him in the lurch. she knows he needed to know everything, and she’d tell him every last detail. maya slips out of the booth, collecting axl’s things, and helped their son out of his seat. with axl holding one hand, maya holds out the other, waiting for noah to take it. “ let’s go. ”

              “ merry christmas... ” maya says softly, sitting across the room from jesus. she had flown out to spend time with him and his family over her christmas break, and the pair of them seemed to be rather... cold in each other’s company. the blonde rises from the arm chair, reaches under the tree, and grabs the gift she’d bought for him. for months, maya had been designing a new deck for a skateboard, and whether jesus decided to actually use it as a board or to hang it up in his room as an art piece, maya didn’t mind. she just wanted to give him his gift. 

                   she held it out to him; “ open it. ”
