ST MUNGO’S ATTACK ; DARKNESS
DIRTY BLOOD. she knew all too well what that meant for her, even if kairi had never understood what their PROBLEM was. however dirty her blood may be, there was nothing she found more fascinating, more BEAUTIFUL, than them: the wizarding community. and now they'd come to collect something that was HERS to give, should she ever wish to─────── like she had with HIM. that had been many moons ago, and she doubted handing THIS hooded monster her blood would feel quite as INTIMATE as it had felt then. no, this would feel PAINFUL, entirely devastating.
so, she FOUGHT. even if she could feel the very weight of her own BONES, or the heaviness of her eyes as she still recovered from her EXHAUSTION. she might not win, but she would be willing to SACRIFICE whatever she needed to if it meant she didn't have to faily ivy twice. ALICE LONGBOTTOM─────── she'd be unhurt. if kairi had to DIE for it, then she would. and it wasn't out of SELFLESSNESS or anything even remotely righteous; she simply couldn't imagine living with the GUILT of it all. it would be entirely for SELFISH reasons, and nothing HEROIC.
as her fight with that HOODED MAN ensued, she thought of nothing else but ivy, and her family, and HIM─────── even if she wished she hadn't. it was a FIERCE, and BRUTAL fight. weak, topaz battled against the BLUR of her eyes. she swayed, her body accepting defeat even as her mind REBELLED against it. perhaps if she hadn't pulled an all-nighter the previous night; perhaps if she hadn't worked tonight; perhaps if she had STAYED WITH IVY. if even the smallest piece of her day had changed, PERHAPS kairi might have seen the spell that SHOT towards her. perhaps.
she didn't fight it as her body went NUMB with pain, or when all feeling began to fade in her legs, then her WAIST─────── her consciousness seemed to FADE to someplace far, far away. she’d LET IT. for a moment, kairi almost didn't resist the SLEEP that overwhelmed her. except, in that last minute, as that DAMNED hooded figure stood over her to GLOAT, she was able to launch the REMNANTS of whatever power she had left towards him, THROWING him amidst the falling RUBBLE─────── it had been the last thing she'd seen: his body, crumpled between a pile of debris.
before she fell into darkness, kairi had enough energy to SMILE, feeling the small piece of parchment tucked into her hand BURN─────── her words of assurance travelling through the flames to someone she was willing to DIE for: IVY LONGBOTTOM. ' she’s safe. i made sure of it. ' alone in that abandoned corridor, sprawled amidst the chaos, kairi couldn't move. her arms refused to shift, her legs unable to LIFT her. so she lay there, letting her mind succumb to what it'd begged her for, to set itself adrift into the far away silence.
&. then everything went dark───────
