Ghost cores are a fanon concept that came from a single blink-and-miss-it line in the episode Urban Jungle that fans latched onto and developed a whole lore about:
Cores - Cores are a fanon creation, however, they stem from canon. In season three, episode six, titled Urban Jungle, Frostbite says that Danny’s “central core readings indicate extreme cold”, which refer to Danny generating a cold sensation In fanon, cores function like the ghost version of a human heart. They typically thrum or purr instead of beat. They act as a ghost’s center, or core of their being. It acts as their most vital organ.
Fire/Plasma Core Vlad - People commonly headcanon Vlad as having a plasma core or a fire core. The idea of a plasma core comes from Vlad’s ghost name being Plasmius, and the fact that his ectoblasts manifest as pink, which is similar to electrostatic plasma which is also pink.
Ice/Electric Core Danny - The two common core types that the phandom has decided for Danny are an ice core and electric core. The ice core comes from the fact that Danny has ice powers in the show.
Core bonding, as I understand it, is a trope akin to soul bonding. Here's what Fanlore.org says about soul bonding:
The bond may be what brings them together, or may result from their being together. It is usually portrayed as unbreakable and irresistible, a force that unites two people in a unique way.
Usually, but not always, the ghosts have to be in close proximity to one another or develop a deep emotional bond with one another. Some fans use core bonding as a variation on Omegaverse or liken it to physical or emotional intercourse for ghosts.
There really are no "set in stone" rules when it comes to cores or corebonding since this is all based on fans' interpretations. But hopefully this gave you and your friend enough info to help you decide what you want to do for Pompep Week :)
