The sound of the wind was calming, yet she could almost tell a storm was on its way, smell it in the air. Luckily there was no laundry done outside, and so she could sit, curled up on a woven chair on a balcony, pretending sleep as she listened to and felt for everything around her.

It was one of those rare occurrences she was found walking alone. Those who realized who she was strayed away from her path while those who didn’t simply didn’t care, thinking her as nothing but another child walking through the streets of Italy. The little girl had sneaked out again, a bad habit she had learned from a certain albino (and according to stories from Tazaru, something she might have inherited from her late-mother). It wasn’t a very good habit, but she wanted to have some form of freedom from time to time, and sneaking out was the only way to get it. Even now, she knew that within the next half an hour someone from her famiglia would find her and trail after her shadow to keep her safe. Those that weren’t Gamma, deliberately stayed a distance away, which she was thankful for though it was interesting to walk up to them with a smile and get sheepish looks in return.
“No! That’s mine! Give it back!”
The shrill screaming came from a child on the other road, accent heavy even as they tried to fight against the men taking away what seemed like a pouch. Their wallet? Or maybe something important? The older men opened it, looked through it and finding nothing, threw the bag back at the child, the action making the boy fall. They got closer, tilting their heads and glowering down at the little boy and starting to rant about how it was useless, and that he should apologize for it. Without thinking about her own circumstances, the little girl ran towards the scene, stepping right in between the fallen boy and the men, holding her hands out beside her as a barrier between the two sides.
“You are scaring the child. Please stop.”
Deep blue eyes stared straight at the man she picked out as the leader, making sure he stared right into her eyes. At first, he simply shouted at her too, but the longer she stared at him with an unchanging expression, her eyes kept on his, she mentally sighed in relief that it was working. The man had slowly, turned quiet, staring right back into her eyes without a word, looking hypnotized. In this short pause, the little boy took up his pouch and dashed off. It really was intriguing even to her, and she wondered if her eyes really looked so deep that people would stare into them to the point of losing themselves.
However, one of the others standing beside him called her out for sorcery, a rather stupid idea, but it couldn’t be helped for a normal person to think that. What she didn’t expect, was to have them suddenly come up to her, raising a hand to knock her back onto the ground. Unluckily, she wasn’t as strong as she used to be, and honestly was very frail despite her entitlement. Hence, she stumbled right onto the floor, hands scratching the floor and cutting the palm of her hand, but still keeping her eyes up at them all defiantly. They weren’t scary. Not really, if compared to the people back at home. Though, she knew she had no way to protect herself, even if she had somehow let the other boy run.
ʀᴇᴀʟʟʏ, ᴛʜᴇʀᴇ ᴡᴇʀᴇ ғᴇᴡ ᴘᴇᴏᴘʟᴇ ᴡʜᴏ understood either of them like they did with each other. That was the burden they carried with their powers—wiser than their years but still wanting to live life like a child. Innocently, untarnished by the mafia lifestyle they couldn’t escape from. Which was why he had to make sure she experienced everything she wanted to and was protected from the harsh realities of life. Without her, he wouldn’t even have a life to live. Everything would still be dim, lackluster.
Clearing his thoughts, it was the here and now that he needed to focus on. These were irreplaceable memories, and nothing would distract him from making them. Though, he had to pause and think a moment. For one, he didn’t know what the shop was known for, or what they had. It wasn’t too hard to guess, considering how many he had been to before. But there was something even BETTER that could come out of this trip.
❝ Ne, Yuni-chan, what if we get one of everything and have a picnic? it’s a nice day, and that way we won’t have to pick and choose. Not to mention, we’ll be able to have ourselves a midnight snack~ ❞
Yuni giggled at his suggestion, thinking it was very like him to think of such an idea. But she loved it anyways, because it was always fun. Sure, if you thought about ‘afterwards’, it brought in questions but after spending time with Byakuran, she learned to simply appreciate these events as they come. They both spent enough time being serious when it came to their families.
“Then let’s have a picnic in the forest!” The girl twirled, her long hair flowing behind a moment later as she crossed her hands behind her back, a bright smile painting her lips. “Have I told you of the nice ground I’ve found yet? A place with the sky opened in a circle, like you’d see in movies!” Possibly a bit too deserted, but why should she care? There was nothing wrong with going there with the man. If anything, she thought he was one of the few safest people to be with.
“If time allows, let’s stay around till tea. Or... Maybe night? Then we could watch the stars together!” Just thinking of it made her excited, steps close to skipping as they neared the cafe. “We’ve missed the shooting stars by a few days, but there are still constellations. Do you happen to know of them, Byakuran?”
He professed that he certainly held a soft spot for most Skies he knew, and Yuni was definitely one of them. He tried to stifle his concern, enough only for it to soften his features and allowed his eyes to narrow slightly at the young girl.
“You’re not bothering me, Yuni-chan.” He said gently, but firm in his tone. “And Tsuna can wait. I’m pretty sure he’s rather occupied at the moment.” If the familiar screeching he had heard over the line just minutes ago had not alerted him to some shenanigans Tsuna was up to with his mentor, the beautiful weather Namimori was experiencing now did not make Takeshi feel like hurrying up in any case.
It was weird that Takeshi could so clearly identified Tsuna’s shrieks by now, and the shrieking he had heard on the phone was one that the Rain had associated with was I-was-just-minding-my-business-but-Reborn-is-hellbent-on-trying-to-kill-me-AGAIN shenanigans, instead of shit-an-assassin-had-just-crept-in-through-the-window-and-thisisaseriousassassinationattempthERE troubles.
“Please,” He grinned, the creases forming against his eyes. “Let me escort you, Yuni-chan. At least I know that you’ll reach Gamma safe.”
Her mouth formed into a small ‘o’, childishly big eyes staring up at the tall boy with a few blinks, a bit surprised by his firm reply. The girl had assumed that maybe with her declining, he would have stepped down. But it seems she had thought wrong.
True, Reborn and Tsuna were ‘occupied’ at best. She had a hunch that they ran out of the house and towards the forest right after her leave too, if the ‘STOP CHASING ME!’s meant anything. Maybe he should wait a little longer before going? A detour? It would be rather disappointing to arrive at an empty house.
Glancing off to the side in thought, she shifted her feet to stick them together, giving him a quick peek. It wouldn’t hurt. He was suggesting it and just in case she did get dizzier than she anticipated, it would be nice to have someone next to her. With that in mind, she looked back up at the Japanese teen, giving a soft nod of her head.
“Thank you. I would appreciate it very much if you could accompany me to the main part of town. I am meeting up with him there.”
ᴀ sᴍɪʟᴇ ᴄʀᴇᴘᴛ ʙᴀᴄᴋ onto his face at her words, a soft laugh slipping past his lips. The albino winked playfully, sticking out his tongue as if teasing her. But he was genuine—constantly and always with her. Besides, it was rather hard to hide things from her anyways.
❝ I don’t have to worry about that too much, do I? You aren’t that much of a child. And anyways, Gamma-kun says that I’m a child myself so it’s perfectly fine, ne~? We can get a banquet of sweets if that’s what you want! We might as well sample everything while we’re there! ❞
He had a point.
Could she honestly be considered a child? She herself felt like one sometimes, while at times she didn’t really think so. It was confusing--- something she both liked at the same time thought of as a burden. For now, she just giggled softly at the mention of Gamma, the image very clear in her head. Then, the girl clasped her hands together in a perfect fit, tilting her head as if lulled.
“Oh! I’d love to try the lemon pound cake too. I heard it’s the shop’s specialty~” The thought of sweets made her smile naturally, reminding her of hunger as well. What was the time? She couldn’t remember if she had eaten anything that day. “Do you have anything particular in mind?”
❝ Chiffon cake. ❞ Expression went serious for a moment as he answered quickly. If they were going to a new sweets store, then Yuni needed to get something fancier than cookies. He was going to spoil her, and wouldn’t take no for an answer.
❝ But if you want both, that’s fine too. I’ll buy you whatever you want, Yuni-chan! ❞
Oh, that was a really fast reply. Who knows why, but she found that act endearing and couldn’t help the light chuckle that escaped her lips.
“You shouldn’t spoil a child too much, Byakuran.” Not that she wasn’t happy about it. It was only him who treated her truly just as she is. How she loved it, really. “Then, can we get both and share?”
❝ Of course I’m not too busy. I always have free time for you, Yuni-chan. Besides, I just got back from being busy, it wouldn’t make sense for me to not have any free time after that, ne? ❞
❝ Of course, you also had me at ‘a new sweets shop’~ ❞
“You’ve got a point.” Laughs lightly and skips a few steps down the path.
“I knew it would~” Who wouldn’t? “I’ve been craving something sweet for a while now. Ne, Byakuran. What do you think is a better choice? Chiffon cake or cookies?”
❝ Mm, well now that I’m back, I should treat you to something for making you feel like that, ne? I have to make it up to you somehow, it’s only fair! ❞
“You don’t have to, but hmm... I would like to spend more time together, if you’re not too busy.”
“A new sweets shop opened in town. Shall we go there?”
Ze’d really rather not. Well…tea…would be okay.
Fufu~ Tea it is then. Does earl grey sound alright?
No.
…But you asked so politely, so ze will.
Welcome in, Mukuro-san~
Ah, can ze drink or eat in that body?
Yep. It’ll disappear eventually.
... ... Well, would you like to come in while you still exist?
He didn’t bring anyone in. Mukuro’s not really here.
Then what is she staring at? Another hallucination?
zeudellumi replied to your post:
I can get rid of said guest if you want me to, Yuni-chan~
Thank you for the offer but that isn’t necessary.
No he didn’t.
An... Expected guest then?
