Ted, it is about 2:30 in the afternoon. You are scheduled to be executed tomorrow morning at 7:00 if you don’t receive another stay. What is going through your mind? What thoughts have you had in these last few days?

From Atomic War in Details
The series is a photographic study of the parallel lives of Soviet/CIS (ex-Soviet States) and US ICBM missile crews. I am exploring their lives and history by focusing on the objects they use and used; nuclear weapons and launch facilities in the USA and CIS. The stories of the bumps, scratches and patinas of the actual objects, invite the viewer to imagine the twin lives of the men (and women) who work in these environments. Shot over two years using a Wista 8x10in Camera on Kodak 160nc Film.
Such comparisons expose the sides ethnologically and the minutiae are symbolic of greater political meaning. The humanized perspective and palpability reveal our complacency in addressing an ongoing, if psychological, war and are an examination of the understated reality of the veneer that protects us from an apocalypse. Weapons and Facilities in this selection of photographs (Nato designations for USSR and CIS) ICBMs and Cruise missiles include: SS-18 ‘Satan’ (Active 1967-Present) SS-24 ‘Scalpel’ (Active 1976 -2008) AS-4 'Kitchen’ (Active 1962-2007) Titan II (Active 1962-1988) SS-N-3 'Shaddock’ (Active 1959-1990)

Andrei Chikatilo the Rostov Ripper was born in Yabluchne, a small village in Ukraine. It was the middle of Holodomor (Extermination by hunger), a mass famine caused by Josef Stalin that is responsible for the deaths of millions of Ukrainian people. Chikatilos childhood was marked with poverty and he claimed that his family resorted to eating grass and leaves and that he didn’t have bread until he was twelve years old.
A quiet and reserved child, Chikatilo was bullied at school for his small statue and introverted personality. His father was conscripted into the war and was captured by German soldiers which culturally brought great shame to the family for his perceived weakness, this exacerbated the bullying further. Young Chikatilo had few friends and preferred reading books to socialising with his peers.

In the sixties, California meant beaches and surfing and endless summers. When I was still at home, my brother had collected almost every album the Beach Boys made and, although I wasn’t that into music, I heard them from behind his door, singing about “California Girls” in a way that made Texas women seem a little less exciting than they had before. Singing about the surfing that was some kind of golden fantasy for us, but a way of life in California. I could never have imagined that one day one of those superstars would take me into his home and introduce me to an aspiring rock singer named Charlie Manson.

Pregnant Sharon Tate and her Yorkshire Terrier, Prudence, photographed by Jay Sebring in early August, 1969. While Sebring took Sharon’s picture, Voytek Frykowski stood close and photographed them both. In the picture taken by Frykowski, Abigail Folger’s dog, Tom, can be seen on the right, next to the chairs and table. These are two of the pictures that depict their last days, at 10050 Cielo Drive.
Ted Kaczynski at a family gathering circa 1965
Ted is pictured with his relatives in the family’s Evergreen Park backyard, in his early 20s. In the first picture he can be seen on the left, standing next to his brother Dave - who in later years was responsible for informing the police about Ted, eventually leading to his arrest as The Unabomber. In the second picture he can be seen in the background. The women present in the pictures are his grandmother Helen Kaczynski (left), cousin Kathy Kaczynski (middle) and aunt Josephine Manney (right).
