To further acquire knowledge on media practices and current broadcast and publishing trends, selected CIIT Media team members participated in this year's Student Media Congress organized by the De La Salle University Student Media Office last July 25-26, 2014.
With the theme Empowering Media Catalysts, the highlights of the event includes two days of insights and information on different topics from speakers such as BBC World News anchor Rico Hizon, GMA Vice President for Professional Development Howie Severino, MBC Assistant Vice President for Promo Santiago Elizalde, photographers Shaira Luna and BJ Pascual, TV host Bianca Gonzales, and media icons Ramon Baurista and Jun Sabayton; and performances from X-Factor Finalist Jeric Medina, Comedy Manila's Alex Calleja, and the Philippine All Stars. among others. The event was capped off with a closing ceremony called Unveil, with band performances from Musical O, Laude and UpDharmaDown.
"It's a great privilege to be able to attend this yearly conference on broadcast media. It sure gave us a lot of new insights, perspectives, and standards in delivering content for our audience." Media Team EIC Carl Lamiel remarked.
"As a new recruit of CIIT Media – in fact, a newbie in news and publishing, I am hyped about the future of media and of my organization! This experience truly empowered me to become a responsible and honorable media catalyst whether on the front desk like BBC World News anchor Rico Hizon or behind-the-scenes such as Howie Severino, Vice President for Professional Development GMA Network." Marion Banzon, freshman, commented.

CIIT Introduces Student Email Addresses, New Student Portal
You've got new mail!
By providing new school-hosted email addresses, the said move is a step from not depending on social media as means of communication between students, faculty and staff.
The revamped student portal consists of newsbits of recent events at CIIT, as well as school information from the Student Services and Admission & Records departments. According to Ms. Issa Bacsa, Student Affairs Officer, the site is still under progress.
The new system runs on Google's platform. Emails can be accessed by using your login details on the GMail website. Any questions, suggestions and/or comments may be directed to the Student Affairs Office at sao(at)ciit.edu.ph.
Ed: Ms. Issa Bacsa is also CIIT Media's faculty adviser.
Last July 1, CIIT started implementing its new identification system. Entries and exits of students are monitored by scanning their bar codes on the lone entrances of the third and fifth floors.
The CIIT Student Council has announced that the Acquaintance Party is on the roll on July 25, Friday! This event is in cooperation with the league of CIIT Student Organizations, and CIIT College of Arts and Technology.
Dubbed in a candy color theme and a smart casual attire dress code, students can expect a lot of fun and new camaraderie at the 9th Floor of RichPrime Global center located at Scout Limbaga in Quezon City. The SC will be holding room to room campaigns starting Wednesday, July 2, to discuss the event details.
Tickets will be available starting this week. For more information, you may contact the Student Council on their facebook and twitter pages.
It’s June and we’re back to school! Another school year, another chance to meet new people, make good memories, and continue the journey of being a student.
Some people may think that a school is just a boring place for books and learning; but as artists, we see this in a different perspective. Being able to express ourselves in our own little ways through fashion is important to us.
Fashion isn’t just about looking cool and keeping up with the trend, rather it’s about seeing yourself as a canvas and show yourself through the way you look – a form freedom of expression.
We spied Rey Faller (1st Year BMMA-VMG) wearing a casual look. Looking comfortable, hip and in style with his black shirt topped with blue long sleeves, beige chinos, and black kicks.
What is fashion for you?
It’s how I express my mood/feelings.
Favorite places to shop for clothes:
Topman, Zara, Sperry, Penguin, Vans, Cotton On
What kind of style do you usually go for?
Casual. I like keeping up with the latest fashion trends but at the same time dress comfortably.
Who do you look up as your fashion icon/s?
Andrew Garfield
We’re keeping our eyes open for the next CIIT Fashionista of the Week! – By Stephanie Aragon
CIIT to start implementing new ID system on July 1
Beginning July 1, students will drop the blue cityscape cards in favor of white instagram-like picture ones as CIIT will begin the implementation of the new Identification system. It is compulsory for all old students to have their I.D changed to the new one. Why do we need to have a new badge card?
The new I.D comes with a unique bar code in which you will swipe on scanners placed on Kuye Jen's and Kuya Sebio's tables at the main door of the 5th and 3rd floors whenever you were entering or exiting the school premises. When you swipe your I.D, your picture and enrollment status will appear on the monitor as well as any important notes or reminders such as appointments with faculty/staff members and tuition reminders. It is basically to monitor student's entries, inform them of any thing they might have missed, and control the incoming flow of visitors in campus. "This is one move of the school... because all schools are doing this, para naman kahit papaano masabi natin na 'in' na tayo or we belong. Your tuition fee is working." Ms. Cez Bacares, CIIT Dean, remarked.
Students could not enter/exit anymore using the door on the fifth floor reception area going into the class and lab rooms; it will be closed so no student can bypass through the new system. Since everybody needs to swipe their I.D whenever they enter and exit the school, the No I.D, No Entry policy shall be strictly implemented. The Disciplnary Office are coming up with regulations for those who will violate under the new school ordinance. -By Alex Nartia

Riding a jeepney to CIIT? Brace yourselves for an minimum of P0.50 increase in fare starting this Saturday, June 14.
The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has approved a 50-centavo increase for the minimum jeepney fare last May 30. Passengers will be P8.50 for the first four kilometers and an additional ten centavos (from P1.40 to P1.50) for each succeeding kilometer.
LTFRC Chairman Winston Ginez cites oil price hikes as factual reason to approve the fare increase.
The new fare hike shall be implemented in NCR and Regions 3 and 4.
#TipsforCIITFreshies: Your quick guide to lunch spots!
Around the CIIT campus, there are a lot of places where you get to dine and drink with your new-found college buddies! We listed the places most visited by CIIT students last year. Here's a quick roundup!
Carinderia - Got enough of fastfood and 7-11 and on a tight budget? There’s a lot of carinderia stores around school. Some are at Sct. Rallos (From CIIT, cross the street to Petron. Walk and turn right at Papa John’s. At the left side of the road, you can see Sannie Side-Up with table set-ups on the sidewalk. Another carinderia is at the second floor of a house near Sannie Side-Up. Look for the sari-sari store and walk to the house behind it.) and at Timog Avenue (There are two carinderias just beside the school building. They’re in front of Rapide Timog)
Timog Food Plaza - More commonly known as Dampa to last year's freshies, the corner of Timog and Scout Tuason is home to the best Lutong Bahay dishes at affordable prices!
7-Eleven - Convenient, available all all day and night! From affordable meals to the famous chicken with unlimited rice, this is a must-know place for all CIIT students! To get here from CIIT, cross the street to Imperial Palace Suites. It’s beside Milk Tea Station and BDO
Il Terrazo - The home of many food and beverage shops like Gong Cha, Bon Chon, Cravings and Banapple! A supermarket is also available at the lower ground floor if you want to eat fesh fruits and make your own dishes. (Located beside Belo Medical Group Building at Tomas Morato cor. Sct. Madriñan)
Beverage Shops - Got some bucks to quench your thirst aside from the school’s drinking fountain and bottled beverages at Mercury Drug? Serenitea, Infinitea, Starbucks, Green Coffee... everything's just a stone's throw away! Serenitea is at Sct. Rallos. From CIIT, walk left at Tomas Morato, then turn left at Shakey’s. Starbucks is in front of the school. Cross the street to Imperial Palce Suites. Gong Cha is at the second floor of Il Terrazo, a block from Imperial Palace Suites. Moonleaf is the furthest of all the tea Shops, being at Sgt. Esguerra. From CIIT, walk three blocks to turn tight to Sct. Bayoran, then turn left at the end of the road to Sgt. Esguerra. Moonleaf is further inside a building but its signage is visible once you turn left. Landmark: Near Wil’s Events Place. Green Coffee is just.....uhm do I really have to explain this? You pass through it at our building everyday. It’s right at the entrance to the CTTM Square building.
Fast Food Shops - Who doesn't love eating burgers and their all-time favorite chickenjoy? Albeit far from school, it doesn't stop any CIIT student from spending time there with their friends! The nearest McDonald's is at Timog avenue, Two blocks from Petron. There's also one near ABS-CBN, and at Tomas Morato cor. Roces avenue. Walking from school to Roces Ave gives you unlimited options like Jollibee and Mang Inasal, among others.
