*Note: Holy fuck, he was hard to type. Blue boy killed me and I’m still not 100%, I strongly considered ISFP, but I ended up feeling like he’s more of a fe user. The only instance of maybe Te I can think of is when he was a kid, but that was more trying to impress his dad…which strikes me as Fe, also I ended up decided he uses to much Ni. It doesn’t help that in the majority of his route, he is super unhealthy.
Ni (Introverted Intuition): Jihyun is the poster child for unhealthy Ni and Fe user. I love him and as a dominant Ni user, I get it, but holy shit. Ni likes to think in abstracts and concepts; the fucking sun. At it’s unhealthiest, Ni has a bad habit of turning people into concepts. That’s literally all his route his about, he has a bad habit of dehumanizing people, what more important is what they represent. Ni is all about finding patterns and symbolism, things are never just what they seem to be. A cigar is never just a cigar. Everything has deeper meaning. He literally tries to turn himself into the embodiment of true love, he dehumanizes himself. He has a goal in mind that he’s hellbent on accomplishing, martrying himself to Rika and saving the rest of the RFA, without ruining their perception of Rika. It’s borderline impossible to get this out of his head, once a Ni dominant has a goal, they’re so freaking stubborn.A trait that I don’t feel is brought up enough, is the fact that unhealthy Ni can bring about some know-it-all traits. Which I do feel Jihyun has some, everyone is begging him to tell the truth. They want to know, they want to help, they can handle it. Jihyun says, “Nope, you can’t, you’ll just get hurt, I need to do this all by myself, it’s the only way.” Goddammit Jihyun. You see, the Ni function is extremely intuitive (shocking I now) and most of their thoughts for what will happen come to fruition. A healthy Ni will think, okay, I have a feeling a bad thing will happen, I’ll trust it but I know it’s not absolute fact. Unhealthy Ni feels like it’s never wrong in it’s intuition, Jihyun believes that sacrificing himself to Rika will fix everything and trying to convince him that’s just not the case is like pulling teeth.
Fe (Extroverted Feeling): He means well. This is something I’ve felt since the very first time I saw him in the game. He genuinely cares about the people in his life; his intentions are pure, his methods are terrible. Other people’s perception of him have always colored the way he lives his life. He was a business minded ass who rejected artistic notions in middle school, to make his dad happy and cause he’s scared. Creative pursuits are terrifying, you can put your very soul into it and someone can still hate it. That scares him, exposing the most vulnerable parts of himself and not being accepted is fucking terrifying. But he tries, after his mom dies, he tries for her. But he still can’t go all out, He doesn’t paint, too personal too intense for him, so he takes photos, goes by V and stays secretive about himself to media. He has to distance himself, what if it’s not perfect and what if everyone hates it. He can’t risk hurting them, so he lies through his teeth because it seems to be the lesser of two evils. He’s dedicated to his idea of true love, which is basically, I’ll let you do whatever you want to me so you feel better. He lets Rika’s blind him because he think it will make her happy. His feelings don’t even come into consideration.
Ti (Introverted Thinking): Not Jihyun’s strongest or most noticeable function, understandable since he’s not particularly healthy. He definitely has his own little since of logic, which combined with his stubborn Ni can be infuriating. His logic is his own; he genuinely believes that he is the source of Rika’s behavior/mental illness and if he let her murder him essentially, it will solve everything. That is his line of logic. He is not able to think about it objectively, he’s does not comprehend that mental illness doesn’t work that way. Despite all the research and scientific evidence that says it doesn’t work that way; in his mind it does. Because in his mind, he’s the problem, he’s always been the problem. So, if he’s removed from a situation, everything gets better. That really is his fucked up line of logic. We see this especially in the routes (Zen and I think Jaehee’s) where he just leaves forever. I’ve hurt people, so if I leave things will be okay. No, Jihyun, that’s not problem solving. Talk through your shit, I know you hate confrontation, but fuck.
Se (Extroverted Sensing): For someone so unhealthy, Jihyun is surprisingly in touch with his inferior function, usually. Honestly, between that and the natural blue hair, little jealous. Though I don’t want literally anything else going on in his life or head. I have enough mental illness and shitty people in my own life, thanks. But, I digress, Se is the function all about experiences and being in tune with the outer world. Clearly, this is inferior function and with that we usually only see it in extreme situations. Inferior functions tend to be your brain’s last resort, “I’ve tried everything I’m competent at, fuck it let’s give this a shot”. For someone hellbent on saving MC and sacrificing himself to Rika, he hasn’t thought it through very well. He just rushes in wearing a cloak, get away once, does it again, gets caught, gets poisoned, whilst in the cabin he impulsively decides to meet up with Rika and gets stabbed.Usually, his Se manifests of his like for sensory pleasures and experiences. He likes art, things that draw his eye. He likes being surrounded by nature. He likes wine, he like traveling and seeing the world. I firmly believe he is the type of rich person who doesn’t buy many material things, but instead buys experiences. Traveling, classes on things, just stuff he feels can actually enrich his life. He enjoys his enviroment but he’s not actually that in tune with it. He talks in one call how he almost fell off a cliff for a picture. One of his thoughts is about getting scared by a cat. For comparison, think of Jihyun and then think of Zen. Zen doesn’t plan out shit, he acts in the moment and can be impulsive, but he’s good at it. As I said before, everything impulsive Jihyun failed or got him hurt. Knee jerk immediate action is not his strong suit. Zen was able to get into the apartment, confront Saeran, and get out of there with you before the bomb went off. Quick split second decisions are not Jihyun’s specialty but he’s being forced into them, which leads to terrible results.
