Cinderella - WIP & Lessons Learned
My WIP/Lessons learned blog about my Cinderella cosplay. It was made from a period of time starting in 2014 and going through 2015. The costume is completed except for some bling and the wig, so I will be periodically updating this blog entry over time. Please enjoy and feel free to ask me any questions you may have!

Next big cosplay project: Maleficent and DiavalÂ
I’ve been wanting to make horns lately and just this morning I finally decided what (more like whose) horns. So once I decided to take this seriously I spent most of today making the horns. A bit impatient actually ahaha, it’s not completely dry and I already start painting it. Looks alright though.Â
I used wire for the armature and jumping clay and then sculpted them. Once they’re dry (at least once it’s not too squishy) I used acrylic paint to paint it lightly and a bit of dry brushing with the lighter colour.Â
I did the make-up test and it turned out pretty well. The horns didn’t stay still on my head so I tried resting it on the wall and posed ahahaha. Maybe once it’s completely dry I’ll glue some clips underneath them.Â
Story time: when I was a child my brother keep making fun of my lips for being thick and my dad said my face looked like a chicken’s butt hole when I pout. But my mum always tried telling me how good they are and celebs like Angelina Jolie inspired heaps of people to want thick lips. Look at me now, cosplaying as Angie’s Maleficent ahahahaha awyuss.Â
Your cadaverous pallor betrays an aura of foreboding, almost as though you sense a disquieting metamorphosis. I s this haunted room actually stretching? Or is it your imagination, hmm?

Fairy Wings
So this week’s post is going to be slightly different from any that I’ve done before. I got my fairy wings in two weeks ago, and I wanted to write a review/ talk about my experience.
I purchased the Dragonfly style wings from Fancy Fairy Wings a Things on May 13. I have been following Angela’s work on DeviantArt since 2008 and have been dying for a set of wings from her. I simply haven’t had occasion or opportunity to buy any until now. The Dragonfly style seemed like a good starting point since it is both the smallest and the cheapest Silver Edition set she offers. I need a small set for the Tinkerbell costume in order to navigate the crowds at Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween party at Disney World in October.
On her website, she asks customers to allow 6-8 weeks for delivery since the wings are handmade and to give her a deadline if you had one. No problem! I had already thought that the wait time would be something like this- it was a major reason why I decided to purchase the wings so early. I thought this would be perfect- they would arrive in time for me to make sure they worked, and I would be able to tweak the costume if necessary. I did not give her a deadline initially since I didn’t have an event planned until October.
Flash forward to July 7… eight weeks have now passed and I haven’t received any shipping notification yet. I reached out to her via email to see if I could get an update. She responded quickly and told me that she had suffered an injury, that her assistant hadn’t been in to help. She said that the wings were being powder coated,  but that the wings should be shipped in a week or so. She also mentioned that the 6-8 weeks listed on the website were a rough estimate, and that she couldn’t guarantee the 8 week delivery unless she had a deadline listed for the order.
I was a little bummed out, but I completely understood. Stuff happens, it’s an independent business, but they would be out in roughly a week, so it wasn’t a big deal.
Flash forward again to August 1…. still no shipping confirmation. I reached out again to see what was up. She told me that her assistant had used a set of frames with a wrong back piece, so the wings needed to be remade, but they would be shipped out in a week.
This time she did get them shipped out.Â
I have to say, the wings are completely stunning. They are really well made, and surprisingly sturdy. I have absolutely no complaints about the final product. My only complaint was with the communication.
I did take a few shots of the wings on the mannequin, and I’m really happy with how they look.
Thanks for reading!
XOXO,
Steph
At last: The final results of my Jedi Princess Kida cosplay for D23. This all started out because I ordered a Storm wig for Comikaze last year, which came two months late and never got used. Cut to ten months later, it is the 11th hour (literally 5 hours before I leave for Anaheim) and I’m in my room, madly sewing this outfit together. And I thought procrastination was a college student problem…
Materials:
- Thread, notions, 1 yard of elastic
- See&Sew pattern B6159 for the Jedi robes, which was $3, way cheaper than the $15 Simplicity 5840 pattern.Â
- White wig, $10 from aliexpress
- 4 yards of Fabric, polyester, silky solid in periwinkle blue and the non-silky version for the tabard. Major discount at my Joanne’s fabrics, which is closing, so about $20
- 6 yards of Burgundy and gold ribbon $6 total (on clearance)
- Snazaroo face painting sticks $4 from Michael’s
- Crystal pendant from Michael’s, $14.99
Cosplay mashups were rampant at this convention, probably because Disney has so many properties to choose from. I ran into a group of Atlantis cosplayers, which was a nice surprise.
This is probably the first outfit that I’ve done that I can reuse and expand. Planning to add embellishments on the sleeves, more ribbon on the tabard, and complete the outfit with grey boots and matching leggings (the ones I wore were gray). Also, maybe a blue lightsaber to cap it off?
The next D23 is likely in 2017, so luckily I have plenty of time.

Draping the shoulder piece. I think I need something inside the chiffon to give it the texture I want, but I’m liking the shape! ✨💎🕛 #imsoclose #cinderella2015 #cinderellacosplay #cinderella

Wow, I’m posting something other than Kpop and fandom stuff.  Enjoy it while it lasts.  This was my second cosplay photo shoot and I had a lot of fun, despite the wig problems (I will never cosplay a character with an updo again) AND make-up (which I’m terrible at).  Side note: I did not make the dress.  My mom made it.  Thanks Mom.

New Tutorial: Making Your Own Custom Wig Head!
Link:Â http://viciouscosplay.com/tutorials/wighead.shtml
Making wigs can be an enormous pain in the butt if you’re working with a wig head that’s not close to your head size. On top of that, if you have a lot of hair, are working on a wig that will be tight (like a ponytail), or resetting wefts, then having an improper size can really hurt the process and make it hard to fit into later. Having a proper wig head allows you to do all those things while also being able to ensure that your eyes are at the right place, you know where your ears are, and help you with those markers to cut at the right place.
