The Social Work profession was founded by Jane Addams, who was also a NSDAR member, and the first American Woman to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. Cindie Harper, who is the Regent of Woodburn Chapter NSDAR and Alumni of WVU School of Social Work holds the Proclamations from Governor Jim Justice recognizing March 2021 as Social Work Month. A presentation ceremony was not held due to COVID restrictions. Did you know that Woodburn Chapter, NSDAR’s name was inspired by WVU’s Woodburn Hall? The name "Woodburn" was chosen by two of Morgantown's earliest advocates for education, Reverend John R. Moore, principal of the Monongalia Academy for boys, and Elizabeth Moore, principal of the Woodburn Female Seminary for girls. After a fire destroyed the original Woodburn Female Seminary, the building that would become Woodburn Hall was completed in its place in 1876 for $41,500. It was named New Hall, then University Hall, before finally being named Woodburn Hall in 1902, to honor the former Seminary. The first women were admitted to the University in 1899, after a fire burned the Morgantown Female Seminary, which Elizabeth Moore opened after the Woodburn Seminary was sold to the state. It was a controversial move, as some argued women did not belong in a land-grant institution that focused on agriculture and technology. Female students formed a Women's League to advocate for their interests and share intellectual ideas. I am a Medical Social Worker (since 2006) for WVUMedicine’s Dept of Family Medicine & Ambulatory Clinics. I received my BSW and MSW from West Virginia University(WVU) School of Social Work. I am licensed as an LGSW through our WV State Board of Social Work and I serve as the Regent of Woodburn Chapter in West Virginia NSDAR ( National Society Daughters of the American Revolution). One of my favorite social work role models, Jane Addams, was also a member of the NSDAR. I requested the proclamation because social work is an essential profession and I am proud to work in the healthcare setting helping patients and the community. NASW celebrates March as Social Work Month so I requested the proclamation on behalf of Woodburn Chapter NSDAR. Terry doing an Estes Session in the tub at Haunted Haymond House . . The Haunted Haymond House in Sutton WV . . The William Edgar Haymond House is a Queen Ann style home built in 1894. It still has it's original floors and staircase and is over 100 years old. It sits on a sandstone foundation. The home was built by prominent lawyer, William Edgar Haymond where he lived with two of his wives. His first wife was Emma Catherine Hawkins. She was the mother of his two children: Gertrude and Nora Haymond(1864-1907). His second wife was Ethel Rhodes (1871-1932). A grandchild, who died at the age of 8, was listed as living in the home at the time of death. I want to give a HUGE shout out and thank you to one of my favorite teams West Virginia Paranormal Investigations (WVPI) for inviting me to investigate this awesome new favorite haunted location right here in WV - The Haunted Haymond. I highly recommend that you add this location to your 2021 bucket list! It is heated and has multiple working bathrooms and it’s absolutely fascinating.
