tl;dr I am cringe and free. ⛓️‍💥💥

I've been drawing less since returning to university and organizing with youth groups. I've since departed from all those groups for reasons that I cannot ethically reconcile with. I won't elaborate further, and I'm still grieving this upheaval I chose for myself.

I want to be upfront in that the same upheaval will also reveal itself in my future works. I'm unapologetically open about how I translate politics into Hetalia when I do (which isn't that often lol). The premise of Hetalia is undeniably nationalist/statist. A lot of what I know about histories and cultures, not just for the Philippines, are hinged on some form of bias that I don't believe in — and certainly don't believe in anymore.

I still can't make a lot of new content, but I will be entertaining drafts collecting dust in the (digital) shelves for too long. I want to chuck out more lore. I want to revise some lore, too; RIP 2021 me, but she did enjoy the process — and I want to reclaim that liberating joy (*maja salvador voice* JOOOYYY?!?!?!!).

I had a sketch since last year of the SEAnigang playing pabitin. Only recently did I come back to rework and fully render it, now that I figured out (and also am revealing) my chibi art style.

In my defense, I got sick. 🤒 But I’m more than glad to finish this piece that I drew around (what should have been for) World Turtle Day. 🌏🐢 I drew the Hawksbill Sea Turtle (E. imbricata) in particular!

I also learned it was Brother’s Day 🇺🇸 the day after. Bonus pun I could not pass over under cut. 🤡

‘Tis the season to be kilig (ay!) 🤭💘

I’ve always wanted to do one of those draw-the-squad memes, and it took getting into an art block to remember that that was something I wanted to draw. 😅 Originally, the high (low?) five was between Mal and Piri, but the humor slaps (pun intended) more when it’s Indo instead.

As a fun tidbit, we have C. javanica* trees that give that cherry blossom/sakura/P. serrulata vibe! 🌸 Blooming season in the Philippines actually starts in late February, I'm just posting this "earlier" for reasons.

*Totally unsure if it's C. nodosa, because I'd see the two given species names used for subspecies, and then interchanged. Local literature is both scant and not up-to-date. I wish I knew better, but I quit the STEM life for a reason haha!

There’s an urban ghost story where, if you turn up headless in the rear-view mirror of the vehicle you boarded, you HAVE to burn the clothes you wore to avoid certain death. The usual format is a lone student riding the jeep back to the dorm. I wrote a different setup for this silly Hetaween 2021 comic.

My contribution to Round 2 of the HWS Razzle Dazzle fan anthology! 🥳🎉🎊

This is a redraw of a postal stamp that was created in 1953 to commemorate the state visits, made by Indonesia and the Philippines with one another, ever since signing a treaty of friendship (I say that last word while gesturing quotation marks). I recommend taking a look at the compilation by the late Andrew Liptak in his postal history blog.

The only real difference to my interpretation is the visibly romantic undertone. 🫣
