All cops are bad is a logical statement. If the laws are wrong and unfair, then all those who enforce them are wrong and unfair.
Now bad legislation isn’t the only reason cops are bad. It’s that they refuse to prosecute each other. It’s that they feel obligated to hide and defend the misdeeds of other cops. Police departments often act more like fucked up fraternities than public servants. Cops protect each other. Not us.
Depending on your data 30-40% of cops have been reported for some kind of domestic abuse.
There is little to no screening when it comes to hiring new cops. They’ll hire people with anger and aggression issues because those are perceived as necessary for a cop. (Can’t have civilians pushing you around) and not dangerous. They won’t check to see if you’re a racist or whatever.
Racists seek out positions in the police force. if you like being racist and ruining the lives of innocent POC then being a cop is the job for you. A badge and a gun lets you do a lot of damage to communities.
Cops will intentionally misunderstand you. You have to explicitly say “I’m invoking my right to a lawyer.” Because if you just say “I won’t speak without a lawyer present” they’ll lie and say that they believed you just literally meant you won’t say words unless there’s a lawyer in the room.
Hey. Do you have a really nice relative who’s a cop? A kind and caring person? Statistically speaking there’s an EXCELLENT chance that they know a cop who did something terrible and just kept their mouth shut about it. Or they are that cop who did something bad and they’re lying.
That’s the other thing. Cops are legally allowed to lie to you. They’re not permanently under oath. That’s a myth.
