Bid Goddess by the Sea, mixed media, by Cicely Gilman
“Ghosts of Newgrange” Years ago when I visited Newgrange (in Ireland) I thought of the ancients who built this structure and the sacrifices that they made to complete it. We have no real way of knowing what they looked like (although it’s been said that they had dark skin and blue eyes) In any event this is a quick drawing that I did of the ghosts of the past still vibrant at Newgrange.

[Image description: a dark nighttime painting of steps leading to a raised platform where an obscured statue stands in the shadows, protected by a small iron fence. Their face is entirely invisible, but their arms outstretch. The statue is greenish, like copper or stone. They are flanked by two old fashioned torches or lamps on long poles. Ivy, greenery, and trees are nearby. The color palate gives a relatively urban impression. End description.]
