BTU calculator tool - Update
The team at City Engineering have made a few updates to our BTU calculation tool. Based on the success of this tool and customer feedback we have now included links to each type of air conditioning system with estimated pricing ranges for supply and installation (note this is now a securer site and has been optimised for Chome and Firefox browsers).
These additions will help customers and clients estimate cost for projects they are planning before getting formal quotation and further advice. Allowing them to confidently plan and cost up small to large projects.

Air conditioning installation for a Private customer, Eaton square
Great work by the City Engineering air conditioning installer teams, working with the interior designer and meeting the client's needs to complete the work on time and on budget.
Our brief was to integrate cooling and heating systems into the apartment of a private customer, in Eaton square, while ensuring the systems and pipe-work have minimal impact on the aesthetics of each room.
The solution was to supply and install a ducted system to be housed behind a false wall and allow a flat screen television to also be accommodated into the wall. In addition, supply and install floor standing systems that could be housed neatly in vented box. All ensuring the client is able to be comfortable and enjoy atmosphere created by the interior designer.
Thank you to the client for allowing us to publish these images and trusting City Engineering to fulfil your heating and cooling needs.
Excellent job!

Air conditioning installation at Headley Spice, Brentwood
Every air condition installation is different, whether it is for a listed building, a complete refurbishment or a new build project, they all present their challenges in local planning restrictions or overcome building infrastructure problems. Many thanks to the City Engineering air conditioning installer teams for working around the time-lines of contractors, interior designs and the client's needs to complete the work on time and on budget.
Our brief was to find an energy efficient solution to the cooling, heating and ventilation requirement for the complete refurbishment of the former popular pub, Headley Arms, into a modern Indian restaurant Headley Spice, while ensuring the systems aesthetically blend into the surroundings.
The solution was to supply and install ten Daikin Compact Cassette and two Fujitsu Ceiling and Wall split AC system. Providing expert advice regarding the types and location of air conditioning systems, to aesthetically blend into the surroundings while not compromising the cooling and heating efficiency for large open plan areas. All ensuring the customers at Headley Spice are able to enjoy the great food and atmosphere.
Thank you to all the teams involved in the refurbishment at Headley Spice. Good to see the opening party went well and all the best for the continued success of the restaurant.
Great job!

Our new simple viewer site.
Doing nothing cost money!
The running cost for a modern 7KW split air condition system is around 13p/hour. Therefore, a computer room running 24 hrs, 7 days for 52 weeks a year this comes to more £1,100 per year in running costs.
Based on data from carbon trust. By not servicing this system, energy consumption of an air conditioning system can increase by 60%, you would be paying £660 per year extra in running cost; this is more than four times the price of our annual maintenance contract. In many cases, with longer plans and multiple units, this can be up to six times the cost our annual maintenance contract. Don’t delay, the quicker you have a maintenance contract in place the quicker you will save money.
Further advice on maintenance and energy saving is available from www.carbontrust.co.uk.

Maintenance
Here are some features that you should consider when thinking about how to maintain your air conditioning system:
Schedule
It's vital that you make maintenance a regular activity. Only then will you get the best out of your air conditioning system. No regular maintenance invalidates your manufactures warranty, so if it breaks down you may have to pay for replacement parts or systems.
Cleaning
Dirty components can significantly reduce the efficiency of your system, leading to increased energy costs. Make sure all components are regularly cleaned, particularly: Grilles, Fans, and Ductwork.
Also, make sure to check the air conditioning's filters aren't blocked. It's possible to retro-fit gauges that will tell you when duct filters need replacing.
Condensers
Keep condensers clean and unobstructed. Condensers are usually located outside a building (their job is to expel heat from the building). They are usually wall-hung in small ‘split-systems’, or floor-standing for larger systems.
Insulation
Pipework insulation needs to be kept in good condition; otherwise more energy will be required to maintain the desired temperature.
Refrigerant leaks
It's vital that you check for refrigerant gas leaks and repair them immediately. A leak could really increase energy consumption.
This is all covered by a good maintenance plan from specialist air conditioning contractors.

Preseason inspections and preventative maintenance can go a long way to ensure that your system is working at peak performance. Here are a few simple things that you can do to keep your system running smoothly.
1. Change your filters ~ A clogged filter can cause your system to work harder...
Regulation and Legislation
Our customers are always covered:
City Engineering are fully registered and approved by REFCOM (F Gas Company Number: REF1003058). Our experienced team will ensuring you understand what is required to meet your obligations, and avoid expensive confusion over current legislation.
City Engineering Ltd - REF1003058
All air conditioning systems containing more than 3kg of refrigerant must have a minimum of one maintenance inspection and leak test every year and ensure accurate records are kept of all such inspections.
As part of all our maintenance plans we conduct periodic inspections, keeping accurate records as required by the current legislation. This is best practice to keep your systems working as efficiently as when they were first installed and to maintain any existing manufactures warranty.
After ozone-depleting R-22 gas production was outlawed at the end of 2009. Refrigeration equipment containing this commonly used refrigerant gas (likely in systems installed prior to 2000) have become increasingly difficult and expensive to maintain.
If your system becomes uneconomic to maintain or repair we will provide you with all the information and options, with available discounts, to make an informed choice whether to replace your ageing systems and with an energy-efficient and environmentally friendly solution.

Guide to comparing air conditioning quotations
Guide to comparing air conditioning installation quotations
Comparing air con installation quotations or any service is essential to make an informed and balanced decision over the market value, what you can afford, and what meets your requirements.
Capacity
The main reason for variable prices between air conditioning quotations is due to the capacity of the equipment being supplied. In general, the higher the capacity rating the higher the cooling output and the more the system costs. It is therefore vitally important to compare the Btu or KW rating of each quotation. It is can be false economy and a costly mistake to install an air conditioning system with an inadequate cooling output.
Brand
The air condition market is much like any other; there are good brands and bad ones. This presents another reason for the price differences in a supply and installation quotation. Even the cost price of the leading brands, such as Daikin, Toshiba, Fujitsu, LG or Mitsubishi, can be different due to varying technologies. Be very warily of brands you have not heard of, or ones that are not well established in the market, they do have a tendency to disappear leaving you with a system unsupported by any warranty.
Company vs. Individual
A company will have larger overheads then an individual so don’t expect the quotation to be comparable on price. The small extra you pay for with a well established air condition specialise goes into expertise and project management skills to solve challenging technical problems. Reliable work and aftercare that ensures your system is installed to last for years, with a valid manufactures warranty.
You could get lucky and find a great engineer who really knows their stuff and stays in business long enough to provided all the aftercare you will need to maintain your system; as we were when we first started out to build City Engineering. However, we are still shocked by the numbers of people who contact us to fix problems due to poorly installed equipment by independent engineers.
Other work/requirements
Other things to look out for include: installation of additional electricity supply, finishing’s to hide pipe work if required. All these points should all be discuss during a site visit, as a good engineer will be able to establish whether any extra work is required.
Communicate
Finally, the best way to get comparable quotations is to communicate your needs and expectations during a free site consultation. If you are clear about what you want, then the quotation you get back will be clear and the result you get will be as you expect and more importantly what you require.
