Taking lessons from my basil plant that, every day, organizes and redirects itself in the direction of the light.
Just like it's the smallest actions that add up to radical significance, it's often the smallest moments that make the labor worth it. Early this morning, our streets were silently bathing in gold. And i remembered how right it is to be in the business of the quiet, the not-yet, the invisible.
We didn't expect to see this Union father sitting in our talk today, and a few tears leaked out when we saw him, sitting quietly in the corner, yellow stino pad open like always. Back on his couch for tea under the king Solomon painting, i realized: We're going to spend our whole lives spinning out his impact on our life together.
Onbeing, Dr. Ellen Langer. Yesterday we read that if we lock people (out of hurt or fear) into categories, we refuse them the possibility of growing, especially of growing in relationship with us. And this morning, saw this. Hoping to open our eyes and hearts more to the growing that's happening in the people around us.
Sharing mornings and feeling most alive together with @paulhile and @gracehile . "We must enrich and prepare the soul, plant and tend the seeds, weed out whatever stifles growth, and give ourselves fully to the process and the harvest. Our lives are not for us alone. We are here to grow something that feeds others." -parker palmer. OnBeing.
#nofilter needed. Not for this view, not for this man.
Everyday healing moments.
We had committed to either a party or a rally tonight, depending on which way the scan news went. Here, in the blurry minutes-after glow of the good news, we felt like maybe we needed both. Rob said it. That hearing "everything's clear" today threw him into the same, sharp awareness he felt when he heard 10 months ago, "she has cancer." And that it takes both kinds of moments, the best and the worst, to feel most fully alive.
I can see all the way out to the sidewalk from where i stand and work. So i'm the lone sentry, waiting, trying to remember to breathe, watching for Rob and Dawn to return from the hospital. I've learned one of the best things is just to walk in together. Because no one can talk to cancer, but everyone likes someone comfortable to walk them home.
Took a little joy ride with a true native tonight.
Its pretty amazing to get a second chance at growing (up) with your sister. Sarah-faces and Pix-elated moments make my every day fuller and better.
"I been thinkin on some new thoughts recently. Its a wonderful thing the good lord be sending us some good rain. Cause otherways we'd all be choking on the smoke and pollution from all the modern polluting things. Like them coal factories and oil machines and big ole trucks. And all the 'baccyholics." -paw smith
Dad smith says to focus on building a trustworthy name; no amount of hard will get you where you need to be without favor. At the family equipment shop, where the drawl is strong, the hands scarred, and the t-shirts grease-stained forever.
Josh in his childhood habitat, where toys and work are synonymous.
recently i've found a new sense of belonging in the familiarity of the KC skyline.
