I fully agree with people who think that some of the people in class 1-B are a lot more interesting than 1-A, and that they should’ve been in 1-A instead.
Like the girl whose quirk lets her change the size of objects looks so cool and that could be such a cool power to explore. There are like 5 guys in 1-A that I would swap her in with in a heartbeat.
But I also think that Monoma works better as a side character in 1-B, and people saying that he should’ve been in 1-A don’t fully understand his character.
Monoma has insecurities about his quirk because he’s seen as a “side character” by others since he can only copy what others have. And which class in the series is full of background characters?? 1-B!!
The reason he hates class 1-A so much and is the only one that is creating this “rivalry” between the classes, such as with who had the better festival show, is because 1-A is the class that was getting attention by the public!!
1-A was the class that was attacked at the USJ, 1-A had the most talked about moments at the sports festival with Midoriya destroying his body, and Bakugo’s actions when he won. 1-A got involved when Bakugo got kidnapped!!
All of these things would push class 1-B to the sidelines. Others in class 1-B have talked about their own insecurities about feeling overshadowed by people in 1-A, such as with Tetsutetsu and Kirashima, and Kendo and Yaoyorozu!!
If Monoma was in class 1-A, he likely would not be having these issues and would not be looking for the smallest moments where class 1-B is “superior,” because those feelings of being overshadowed would not be as present if he were in the class that the series focuses on!!
The reason Monoma works better as a side character is BECAUSE he is aware that he is “the side character” in the storyline!!!
And it just makes it all the more satisfying when he does get his moment to shine in the second war when his “side character” quirk that he’s been insecure about is one of the reasons why the heroes were able to win!! And also the fact that he’s in the top 10 in the timeskip, so he was definitely seen in a better light at the end of the series.
I think that it works so well since the whole viewpoint on what being a hero is also evolved at the same time. It wasn’t just about someone’s quirk or who was able to be in the spotlight more, but being about what someone does to make society better.
