TWA and America West codeshare map, late 2000
A map of the planned TWA and America West Airlines codeshare from late 2000. Codeshare routes are shown in blue, non-codeshare TWA routes in red and non-codeshare America West routes in yellow.
While we typically run airline maps that were actually operated, this map has the distinction of never being implemented. The TWA-America West codeshare was announced in November 2000 but never came to fruition due to the announcement of American Airlines plan to acquire TWA in January 2001.
One thing that jumps out from the map is the possible synergy between the America West and TWA networks. Had history taken another course, they may have made good merger partners.
The two did, in a manner of speaking, eventually merge. America West acquired and then adopted the US Airways name in 2005, which subsequently merged with American in 2013.
