The music is too loud.
That’s the first thing Levi notices when he steps into the kitchen. The bass is pounding through the floor and walls in an irritating pulse.
The second thing he notices is you.
You’re standing near the counter, a drink in your hand, your expression too tight to match the tone of the party. Levi’s eyes narrow almost immediately. Something is wrong. He doesn’t approach right away. He watches instead, silent and still in the doorway, the way he always does.
Then he sees him. The guy from earlier. He’s leaning in toward you again, saying something you clearly aren’t laughing at.
Levi’s jaw tightens. Didn’t you already shut him down? He watches your shoulders stiffen, the polite smile you’re forcing that’s beginning to falter, your body angling away just slightly.
This guy just isn’t getting the hint.
Levi sighs. Idiot. He pushes off the doorway and walks into the kitchen until he’s at your side. You notice him. Relief pours through you so quickly it almost pains you.
“Vi,” you say.
He glances once at the guy. Practically glares. The guy hesitates just for a second, then he mutters something under his breath and backs off, drifting toward the living room. Levi doesn’t watch him leave—his attention is already back on you.
“You okay?” he asks.
You let out the breath you were holding and your shoulders drop slightly. “No,” you admit, leaning closer so you don’t have to shout over the music. “He won’t leave me alone.”
“He’s been bothering you all night?”
You nod. “I’ve tried everything,” you say, taking a sip of your drink. It burns down your throat, warming your skin. “Ignoring him, being polite, not being polite, telling him I’m taken—nothing is working.”
Levi’s eyes flick past you briefly, tracking the space where the guy disappeared. Then he looks back at you. You look annoyed, but more so uncomfortable, and something about that sits wrong with him. You shouldn’t have to deal with this.
There’s a pause. A small one. Just long enough for Levi to make a decision. When he speaks, he sounds like he’s stating something obvious.
“You can kiss me, you know.”
You blink and whip your head to look at him. “What?”
Levi doesn’t look away. Have his eyes always been this captivating? “It would make him stop.”
Your eyebrows lifts, incredulous. “That’s your solution?”
“It would solve the problem.” Levi’s expression doesn’t change.
You stare at him. For a second, you forget the noise of the party, and all that exists is you and him, standing in the kitchen looking at each other. There’s something else there. Underneath the practicality, underneath the calm. Something you’ve both been ignoring for far too long.
Your heart starts to race. He can’t just mean that casually, can he? But Levi doesn’t look like he’s joking. He looks certain. You swallow, your throat suddenly feeling very dry.
You don’t even think about it. You place your drink down and kiss him.
It’s not tentative. Not really. There’s too much tension for that—too many almost-moments, too many lingering looks that neither of you ever acted on—and the second your lips meet his, it feels like something finally snaps.
Levi inhales sharply, one hand coming up to your waist, pulling you close like he’s been waiting for an excuse to do it. Your arms hook around his neck. Levi kisses you like he means it. Slow at first, then deeper, his thumb brushing your side. Your body fits against his in a way that feels far too natural to be coincidence.
So he’s really not pulling away. He really meant it. The realization makes your heart flutter. Your fingers thread through his hair, your other arm holding him in place as the kiss lingers longer than either of you expected. Long enough that it stops being about the guy.
When Levi finally pulls back, it’s only enough to breathe, his forehead brushing yours, his grip on your waist still firm. For a moment, neither of you speak. You drink in the image of him, flushed and panting.
Then he says, “We’re leaving.”
You tilt your head. “What?”
He doesn’t elaborate. He just takes your hand and starts toward the door. You follow without thinking, your heart still racing.
“Levi,” you say, half-laughing now as you weave through the crowd, “where are we going?”
He looks back at you. There’s a faint smirk at the corner of his mouth. “My place.”
Your laughter comes easily this time. He’s unbelievable.
“Okay,” you say, squeezing his hand. “Lead the way.”

This made me realize that I only ever wrote major strife and no arguments among the couple so far, the dynamics I usually write has reader always sweet-talking and seducing him from a bad mood, but obviously realistically that can’t always happen 😹 He’s very authoritative, so I think would be very hard to argue with in general and you would almost feel like reminding him that you’re not in the military and he himself already doesn’t even respect the chain of command lmaoooooo 😔 I feel like he would want to say the final word and would point-blank not allow certain things - like for an instance if he thinks it’s something that would put you in danger, you don’t get to choose. (Relatedly, one of my fav hcs is that in canon universe is that Levi would not allow his love to remain in the military, for an example, and even though he’s a blunt man who is very honest to you, he absolutely would go behind your back to make it happen and use his influence if you didn’t comply with it - and afterwards he would have no problem telling it all to you as it was of course, because he’s that sure of his decision, and he has no intention of being dishonest to you. And it would not be possible to go against him in such matters since he’s the most important figure in the entire military…) He also wouldn’t let you go into silent treatment or let you distance yourself, you could try avoiding him and he would bring you back to bed because “that’s not how a married couple should behave, acting like children” 🫠 (not only because he has very black and white ideas but also bc he’s secretly too clingy and always needs his wife in bed with him shhhhh)
Also I think he’s the type that’s veeeeeeryyyyy hard to break up with, regardless of any mistakes you do, he would NOT let you go, like he would neveeerrr give up on you. He looks so strict and patriarchal but also is so deceptively lenient and would indulge you to no ends, you could go and burn an entire town and you would be let out with a slap on the wrist bc you’re his love 😵💫😵💫😵💫😵💫
