Resolutions. Something recognized all over the world is a fresh start, and the beginning of a new year is the perfect opportunity for that. People believe with the new beginning they can become a new person, do bigger and better things but then find themselves back to their normal in just a few weeks. I don’t criticize them for trying. Trying is half the effort. But so many times you find that people go to big too fast and their enthusiasm for their new goal fizzles out in no time. I believe that if you truly want to start fresh and change your lifestyle, you shouldn’t need to wait for the new year to do it. Do it now. Change what needs changing. Of course, do it all in your own time, but what’s the point of sitting around and waiting for January 1st to do something you’re already thinking about. If you want to go out and get healthy, then do it. You have all the power you need already. The time to change is right now. Not tomorrow, not in a week or a month. Right. Now. Now, with that being said of course there are positives of New Years Resolutions, they can give you that motivations you’ve been lacking, and often you hear of people doing resolutions with their friends or family. Support is always a good thing when seeking change. Personally I’ve tried my own resolutions in silence and they’ve lasted, oh, about two days. If you don’t have support in your goals, then it’s going to be a lot harder to reach them. A good support system is always helpful. As much as I’m not a huge fan of the New Years Resolution I’m going to make some of my own and I’ll let you know what they are right now, so it’ll  make it a lot harder for me to give up on them in the future.
1. Think things through. This is a big one for me since I tend to just jump right into things without thinking before hand. Last year, I jumped into a diploma without thinking, it almost cost me $70k and it wasn’t even something I anted to do after a few months. More recently I’ve purchased a dog- while my bank account was negative. Now, I’m trying to find the money to pay off this dog, but I’m going to have to ask my father for a loan. So maybe if I had of sat down and thought these things through I wouldn’t be in this situation, which is why I’ll be trying to do that more often.
2. Drink less soft drink. Over the holidays my family tends to stock up on cans of coke, and other fizzy drinks. Our outside fridge is currently full of just cans and this is bad for me because I have quite the soft spot for coca-cola. I’ve been drinking about three cans of it a day, and that really isn’t healthy for me. So, I’m going to start off slow, I’m going to try and have three days during the week that are soda free.
3. Walk more. When I first started my job in September I used to have to walk an hour before and after work to get home, I would do this three or four days a week and it was starting to slowly pay off. But, lately we’ve been moving house and it’s been the holidays as well as bad weather and I haven’t been walking at all. So, starting next week I’ll be walking to and from work once more- since we moved it’s only a half hour walk, but at least it’s something. And, at the end of the month I’ll be getting my new dog and I want to take her for at least 5 walks a week.Â
4. Eat healthier. I know this is a typical one, but it’s one that is very much needed for me. If you couldn’t tell by how much soda I drink, I’m not a very healthy person. I’m fortunate to still be an average weight, but I won’t lie when I say I’ve been putting it on. My weight has always been something that’s made me uncomfortable and it makes it hard for me to find clothes I like. I’m fortunate enough to have a small waist and thin legs but that’s where it stops. My breasts, arms, stomach and chin are all way too big for my liking, and it’s time I do something about it. About a year ago I stopped eating take-away food and lost a few kilos, so I’m going to try it once more. I’m going to eat healthier and hopefully lose about 10kilos while I’m at it.
5. Save better. This is the last one from me and it’s probably the most important one. I’m horrible when it comes to my money. As soon as I have it I spend it, I currently owe my brother some money because I got him to buy tickets for me since I didn’t have the money at the time. It doesn’t help that work has been slow and I’ve just had a week off. But, once I’ve paid him, and the dog off I’m going to really buckle down and save my money. Ever if it’s $50 a week I put aside into my savings- every cent counts. I want to one day be able to buy my own car, or my own house and I can’t do that if I don’t save.Â
So, that’s my resolutions not only for the year, but hopefully they’re things I learn to do for the rest of my life. I know this post has been all over the place, you’ll have to forgive me for that. That’s kind of how my brain tends to work sometimes. But, I’d love to hear about your current and past resolutions! Thanks for reading.
