In the very last scene of Sign Of Three Sherlock stated that he had never made a vow in his life, and that he was about to make his last and FINAL VOW. Which was,as we know that he would always be there for John and Mary no matter what. In the next episode Sherlock did exactly what he promised to do, for he killed the man who was threatening to end Mary Watson which would bring sorrows to John. And to stop that from happening Sherlock remembered his first vow, and did the unforgivable by killing the man. He had vowed to protect them no matter what. And since he would be punished for his actions, that was really, His Final Vow.
