“Welsh Dragons”

Second in a series of paintings featuring dragons and steam railways. Here, a shunter appears to have picked up a winged hitchhiker on the Welsh Cambrian lines of the Great Western Railway, where a 2021 class locomotive is busy arranging wagons for outbound trains. I’ve been told that this painting bears thematic resemblance to the beloved children’s program “Ivor the Engine.”

“South London Speedway”

It took about 25 hours of work spread over 4 days, but I’ve finally finished this painting as my second foray into British Victorian steam locomotives, with a bit of fantastical flair thrown in. Here, the rival crews of an LSWR 4-4-0 and the LBSCR’s “Gladstone” exchange unpleasantries as their top link expresses charge along the parallel tracks just south of the Thames. The South Western engine has claimed the lead, undoubtedly due to the advantages of having a draconic stoker tend to the fire.

Have you ever drawn Oliver ( And/or Toad)? theys me fave train. That episode used to actually make me tense up as a kid, gotta rescue the trains from the evil but very static guard dogs!

I’ve not done Oliver as far as I can recall- I think the closest you’ll get from me is this anthropomorphic 1401.

Le Mistral. Trying out new face designs. Wanted to make the engine dignified and impressive looking. So made the top headlight a monocle of sorts, and incorporated the ‘Mistral’ headboard into the nose.
