Police violence isn't just a thing in the US and whilst I can't talk on anywhere else as I,,, don't live there it definitely goes on in the UK.

The difference is that our police force and news outlets are better at hiding it and our attention is almost always on police violence elsewhere. People still get beaten, people still get tased, people still ~mysteriously die~ in police custody. You just never hear about it.

Punk fashion is coded to be bad and untrustworthy. Suits and clean-cut clothes are coded to be good and upstanding people.

People with tats, body mods, dyed hair, funky hair cuts are coded to be dirty and lazy. Close-cropped hair, little to no stubble, zero body mods or tats, and nothing colourful is coded as clean and professional.

The people at the top would rather you see the group they fear the most as the enemy so you never question them or threaten their power.

My city has a skate park that is frequented by both kids and adults because it’s the only one around. One time I walked past, and as I did, a little kid about 8 years old fell off her bike. A few (business men looking) people walking past ignored her. I was about to walk over when a punk with full gear like leather jacket and spiky hair walked over, and opened his jacket to reveal an entire pocket stuffed with band aids. It was so pure

This is something we as radicals don’t talk about much but which has come up a lot in my experience:

You deserve mutual aid. You’re not too privileged for it, you’re not stealing it from people who need it more - you have a right to use community resources just as much as anyone else

I’ve seen food rot, clothes and books be forgotten in storage, because the people volunteering at or supporting these projects don’t think the resources are for them. Then those same volunteers will go out and put money they don’t have into the capitalist system to buy the resources they could’ve gotten for free

You’re thinking like a charity. You’re drawing a line between the people giving resources and the people taking them, which inevitably leads to a feeling of separation and eventually superiority, unconsciously seeing yourself as a savior coming in and helping the less fortunate. That alienates the people you’re helping from you, and results in neither side fully recognizing the other as human and the same as them

There’s a reason we say “solidarity not charity”. There’s a reason mutual aid is called mutual. Because by lifting each other up, we all become stronger. In solidarity and mutual aid, there is no separation between giver and receiver, because everyone involved is benefited by it

But that doesn’t happen if the resources aren’t used! Get out of the capitalist scarcity mindset - give freely and take freely, because by being lifted up you help us all

Apparently Trump has now announced he is ignoring CDC guidelines for school’s reopening and will cut funding from schools that do not reopen normally saying that delaying reopening is a democrat scheme. Remember it’s a crime to not send your child to school if it’s open so children will be forced to go in unless their parents are wealthy enough to stay home to homeschool them.
