You woke up in the darkness. Your hand caught the phone under the pillow, the display saying 4.30 am. This has been happening for a couple of days already, waking up almost in the middle of the night. Probably because of the poor sleeping schedule.
With a sigh of knowing you probably won't fall asleep again, you stood up from the bed, the cold floor hitting your bare foot at the first touch. The night was almost at the end, and with some people already out on the streets, it felt like the day had already started.
After a quick change into something comfortable, you did your morning routine and put your running shoes on. You weren't really into sports or running, but you tried. You liked being fit, and you also wanted to be a good looking, for you. That's the main reason you did this, even though sometimes, like this, it was against your comfort.
5.37 am Tara: where are you?
You blinked a couple of times at your phone. Why was she up? And why is she texting you all of a sudden? Did something happen?
5.37 am You: on a run
5.37 am You: sum happend?
5.40 am Tara: no
With a confused expression, you turn the display off before continueing the run, your headphones playing music, while looking at the still quiet streets that have started to wake up into a sunlight.
5.45 am Tara: can I join?
-
,,Come on!”
,,I can’t anymore, you dumbass!” Tara yelled back at you with deep breaths while she held her side with an exhausted expression. You wanted to laugh at that sigh, but you would be sure she would kick you with the full strength that was left inside of her.
,,You wanted to run with me, then keep up!” Of course, it did not mean to sound rude; you just wanted to motivate her more.
The brunette groaned and started to run after you. Tara wanted to kill you, her legs were on fire, her throat was dry, and she couldn´t breathe anymore. Good thing she brought her inhaler. When she texted you to join, she didn't expect it to be this drastic. Tara was woken up by her sister. Sam has been going to work early in the mornings, sometimes waking Tara up, so when she looked at the map, if her sister came to work safely, she saw you not been home. After you replied that you were on a run, Tara felt conflicted, she was afraid that it would be too much, but she wanted to go. And of course the imagine in her head was the opposide of this, more like relaxed running from one foot to another, together with you, while looking around the calm city and breathing the fresh morning oxygen.
But here she was breathing out loud, her legs numb, and you were laughing at her. This was the stupidest idea ever.
You slowed down as you pointed at the bench in the park. ,,Sit.”
Tara sighed and sat down hard on the wood while taking a deep breath.
,,Good?” You asked softly as you kept looking at her with those eyes of yours. The brunette looked up at you, studying how you stood tall in front of her with your hands by your hips and chest falling up and down while sweat rolled down your forehead.
She gulped before nodding slowly. ,,Yeah.”
You look around you before spotting something in the distance.
,,Wait here, okay?” You asked her as you started to walk somewhere. She didn't even have time to answer you. After a minute, you came and sat beside her on a bench. You passed her a bottle of water as you held yours against your lips already.
“Thank you.”
Both of you sat next to each other in complete silence, enjoying the calm park. In front of you was a big pond that ended at the other end of the park. Sometimes you could hear a soft babbling of water from the fish that swam near or ducks that enjoyed the slow morning without people.
,,So you are doing this every day?”
You turn to Tara. ,,The running?” She nods at your question, looking at you.
,,Well, not really, just sometimes.”
,,You know… I have never seen you as someone that do this.” Tara said with an awkward voice while brushing the non-existent dust from her sleeve.
,,What?” You laughed at her words. ,,What does it even mean?”
,,Like running, I wasn’t expecting you to do it. You are really…” She looked around herself as if she was trying to find the right word, athletic.”
Your eyes almost fell out of your eye sockets. ,,What?!”
,,No! Like you aren’t someone who looks like they are trying to be fit.” Tara tried to correct herself before facepalming her forehead for making this even more embarrassing than it already was. You were looking at her with a confused and a little hurt face.
,,Wow, thank you very much.”
,,You know what I meant.”
,,Yeah, that I’m a lazy fatass.”
,,No!” Tara yelled back at you, now turning a little to the side to face you better. ,,I just thought you enjoyed playing games and watching movies and-“
,,Yeah, I do enjoy that, but I also-“
,,And that exactly what I meant!” the brunette cut you off again. ,,You aren’t just what I have been seeing till now. Now I see you in a different way and God… you surprised me, and I just realized that there’s so much of you and every time I’m in your company you surprise me with something more and-“
Tara kept on rumbling as if she were trying to save herself from something. You kept on looking at her face with soft eyes, trying to understand her between the words. Because that’s how Tara talked, to understand her, you need to hear more than just the words. Her lips were moving fast, and suddenly, you got lost in them, her voice slowly fading into the air. After Tara’s mologue she looked at you, trying to find the answer in your expression, only to see that you were staring right at her lips.
Suddenly, your eyes turned up to meet her, and with that, both of your cheeks turned red.
,,Oh, it’s fine really.” You quickly turned from her to stare at the calm pond in front of you. Tara’s whole skin shivered; she had never experienced this kind of chemistry with anyone else. She would have lied to herself if she said she hadn’t feel aynthing and she was sure you too.
The brunette cleared her throat as she tucked her fallen hair behind her ear. ,,Uhm, Chad was talking about some restaurant.”
,,Yeah, I saw the group chat.” You said with a quiet voice.
,,Are you going?”
,,I’m not sure if I’ll be able to. I already got something planned.”
Tara only nodded at your answer. With that, a silence filled the space between you while you enjoyed the morning sun that shone through the treetops.
-
Tara was currently waiting for Chad to call her. He and Mindy were going to pick her up. They agreed to go to dinner at this new sushi restaurant that opened last week. Tara wasn’t a sushi fan, but Chad swore they also make an amazing poke bowls.
The brunette was looking at herself, doing last checks in a mirror. The restaurant was pretty fancy from what she heard from others, so she required light makeup and hair styled down, wearing a dark blue dress to her knees.
She looked good, and she knew that it was a good idea to go out full like this from time to time, even if it meant just to boost her confidence. She didn’t know if you would be there; you said you had something planned, but you weren’t sure. Gosh, she really wished you changed your mind.
A call of a phone caught her from her thoughts.
,,Hey, you ready? We are here.”
,,Yeah, I’m coming.”
With that, she hung up the call, quickly grabbed her purse, and left the apartment. It was already dark outside, but the weather and the soft wind against her skin were pleasant.
,,Hey.” Chad turned around from the driver’s seat to the back. ,,Damn!” he whisled while looking at her. ,,Look at her!” He grabbed Mindy’s arms from the passenger seat.
His sister laughed. ,,What? You never saw her in a full glam?”
,,Of course I did, I just wasn’t expecting it now!”
Tara rolled her eyes. ,,You said it was a fancy restaurant!”
,,Yeah, it is!”
The short brunette crossed her arms against her chest. ,,So what’s with those comments?”
Chad put his hands up in a defensive position. ,,Sorry, I just wanted to give you some confidence, and anyway,” he tilted his head to the side ,,I only saw you being like this when you were dating Amber.”
,,Chad!” Mindy slapped his arm. ,,We promised we won’t talk about her anymore.”
Her brother nods in agreement. ,,I’m sorry, you’re right.” He gave Tara a tight-lip smile before turning around to the front.
,,It’s fine, guys.” Tara said while looking out the window at night. She and Amber were a history. They used to be friends, really good friends, actually. At first, Tara thought she had a friend crush on her, you know, the one when you really wanna be friends with someone, because they seem so cool and you enjoy their energy and company. Turned out it was’t a friendly, not since Amber kissed her one time at the party. They were both tipsy, and Amber had her hands everywhere. From that day, they were together, or at least they acted that way. They kissed and held hands every day, did a lot of things a normal couples do, except Amber never asked to be her girlfriend. One day, everything went downhill, and they never spoke to each other again.
Tara was hurt back then, but now, as time passed, she had forgotten about her and about the feeling Amber used to make her feel.
After parking the car, they made their way to the entrance, where Ethan was already standing.
,,Hey guys.” He smiled happily.
,,My favourite nerd.” Chad put his arm around Ethan’s shoulders. ,,Were you waiting long?” He turned to him. And did you style your hair? What do you have in them?” Chad tried to catch the glossy thing in Ethan’s hair, only to be pushed back by him.
,,Stop! You’re going to ruin it!” He quickly tried to style his hair back.
,,I didn’t even touch you!”
,,Okay, can we go inside?” Mindy asked as she stepped from one foot to another. ,,I’m starving already.”
Ethan looked at Mindy. ,,Don’t we wait for Y/N?”
Tara’s heart jumped in her chest at the hearing of your name. So you are coming? What changed your mind, and what plans did you even have?
,,She’s coming?” Tara asked first.
,,Yeah, she said she will join.” He nods his head at the brunette’s words.
Chad points with his head in front of him with a smirk. ,,Look.”
With that, everyone turned their heads in the direction Chad was looking. At the end of the street was you, with just black pants and a black polo shirt with the upper buttons down. You always looked good in dark clothes, that’s something Tara noticed; your aura seemed to shine even more. And she would look at you all the time if she could, she would stare and flatter you while slowly realizing she has feelings for you. But then her eyes caught the person walking beside you. Demitra.
Tara's fists tighten. So that was your reason. She again, while Tara was the one who was with you this whole morning. Why do you need to always bring her?
,,Hey.” Demitra smiled at everyone politely, almost shy from the sudden attention. ,,I’m sorry if I bother you, I know I’m not a part of your group-“
Mindy shook her head before cutting her off. ,,Please don’t feel bad, it’s absolutely okay, no harm.” She smiled at the girl beside you while Ethan and Chad nodded at the agreement.
Tara didn’t.
The awkward silence followed through the group.
,,So… ready to go inside?” You asked as you clapped your hands together with a nervous smile.
-
You were fucked. Yeah, like not literally, but you felt like your head was going to explode. At first, as you sat down, it was very embarrassing, the conversations were forced at first, the glances through the group were weird, and there was a tention in the air.
That stopped after the first drink. You and Chad didn’t drink, because you are drivers and you didn’t have a problem with drunk or tipsy people, or more like your friends. The biggest problem was that you were sandwiched. Between Tara and Demitra.
Both girls were like two different magnet poles; the difference was that they didn’t attract each other like a magnetic force. Oh boy, but you could feel it.
When you looked to your right, Demitra was softly holding onto her glass of wine, gently sipping and throwing you a small smile from time to time. Sometimes bringing you into a conversation her and Mindy had. Very sweet energy.
And when you looked to your left, there was Tara with that dress you had never seen her in, her makeup, and her dark hair down. She looked like she came straight from some mafia movie. She didn’t talked much, but she didn’t have to- her expressions said all she had on her tongue. Every time you or Demi said something, her eyes rolled to the top of her head, and the more she sipped from her drink, the more conspicuous she was.
You just prayed the food would come fast, and the food you would eat and go.
You were sitting there for two hours, you were counting. The plates were now empty, but the glasses were still being filled.
,,You know I was a little afraid to come, but now that I’m sitting here, I’m so glad Y/N bought me here.” Demitra says with a smile, her eyelids were a little closed than three glasses of vine before, but you would need to look closer to see that.
,,Yeah, Y/N loves to play charity sometimes.”
Your eyes got wide from the words that left Tara’s mouth. ,,Tara-“
Demitra only laughed at her words before rubbing your knee gently. ,,It’s okay Y/N” she said. Tara’s eyes dropped at Demitra’s arm moves.
,,Y/N told me how sometimes you can’t stick your tongue behind your teeth.”
Tara’s eyes moved up again to meet Demi beside you. ,,Really? What else did she say?” She asked with her fake voice.
,,Oh, like you always argue and fight, and that you don’t get along well. So I’m not so surprised.”
Tara hummed as her jaw tightened. Everyone were sitting quietly not doing anything, almost afraid of getting involved into a something.
Tara took another sip before looking at you with drunk eyes and a confident smirk.
,,Then she must have also told you that she used to be in love with me.” Her fingers gently run from your knee to your inner thigh, gently rubbing your sensitive skin through the pants. And that was the last straw for the night.
-
,,Come on.” You said as you grabbed Tara by her hand tightly, forcing her to follow you.
“W-wait!” The brunette could barely walk. The moment she stood up from the restaurant chair, her words started to spin, and, making it even worse than it already was, her heels were hurting her feet. ,,I can’t feel my legs.” Tara sighed.
You stopped walking and turned to face her. Anger was written all over your face, the vein formed on your neck as you groaned from the frustration. Tara thought it was really hot.
She smiled softly at you with a drunk eyes.
,,Will you carry me, please?”
,,What! Absolutely not!” You yelled at her in the middle of a street. It was around 11 pm, and some people walking by, were looking at you weirdly.
You are going to kill her.
,,But my legs are hurting…” The brunette said with a pout on her lower lip.
,,I’m sure you can make it to my car.” You answered.
That only made Tara groan lounder catching even more others' attention.
,,Gosh, okay, okay! Just stop being so loud!” You quickly took steps toward her.
,,I thought you would like me being loud.” Tara smirks while leaning her body against your shoulders as you crunch down in front of her.
You shook your head at her words, still angry at the circus she created a couple of minutes ago in a restaurant. You stand up as you grabbed back of her thighs, lifting her up with you.
As soon as you spotted your car, you opened it and put Tara in the passenger side, bucking her seat belt. ,,Sit.”
,,Oh, bossy, I like it.” Before she could say anything more, you slammed the door in her face.
You kept driving through the town, both hands tight on the steering wheel. Tara was huffing and groaning from time to time, pulling on the tight seatbelt and her dress. In between that, she was looking at you, without any shame. Your side profile, your arm, and your hands. Your focused eyes.
She made you mad; she’s aware of that, but she couldn’t help herself. She needed to show Demitra who’s in charge here.
,,Why don’t you like Demitra?” You asked all of a sudden, breaking the silence.
The short brunette rolled her eyes. ,,I couldn’t care less about her.”
You laughed dryly at her. ,,Really? It doesn’t seem like it.”
Tara didn’t answer. She looked at her hands that rested in her lap.
,,She thinks she knows you.” Tara groans. ,,She knows you what… two months? Not even? And she acts like you are her childhood friend! Like she’s the best that met you!”
,,I don’t see a problem with that.” You snapped at her while still looking at the road.
,,And that’s the problem, Y/N!” The brown-eyed girl yelled, turning to you with a hurt expression.
You shot her a quick, confused glare. ,,What?” You saw her big brown eyes, those beautiful brown eyes in tears. But she didn’t let them fall. ,,What do you mean, Tara?”
,,Forget it.”
,,No! Not when you look like this-“
,,Y/N! Please…” The brunette let out softly before hiccupping.
Tara felt ashamed of herself. She was angry at herself, at Demitra, at you, and the whole world. She has been knowing you the longest, you are her first ever friend.
The brunette didn’t understand herself. How come she realized this now? The signs were everywhere. Her palms were always sweaty, and her heart felt like it wanted to jump out of her chest. She felt butterflies in her stomach, and the adrenaline swam through her veins. But it wasn’t a bad feeling. Tara wanted to feel that again and again and again. She just realized. She thought it was from the anger… Oh, how much she hated you, she hated you so much she fell in love with you.
summary the more she looks at you the more she falls and the worst part is she doesnt even realize
tags slowburn enemies to lovers curse words you are getting on her nerves like always
Tara didn’t understand how or when she got in this position. It's like it slipped through her fingers, as she wasn’t herself anymore. The brunette felt nauseous. How come someone like you caught her attention? And all of a sudden, right now.
Now, all Tara was thinking about was your new friend, who was everywhere she looked. Was she walking to school? Her. Was she hanging out with the group? Her. Was she on her phone? (totally not stalking you) Her.
The short girl´s temperature rose every time Demitra was close. And the worst part? She didn’t do anything, or maybe she did everything. She was too sweet, too friendly, too talkative, too smiley, too smart. And that was something Tara hated.
It was Sunday night, and it felt like forever since your group had a hangout together for a movie night. Tara loved those days because sometimes you just didn't have time to meet and talk or text to one another, but Sunday nights reminded Tara that even though your group chat was dry or you hadn't seen each other in some time, nothing changed. Tara loved her friends, and she would give them first and last.
It will also be the first time since the short girl sees you again, after her realization. She wonders why she didn’t see that before, and would something change if she did? She doubts that.
So Tara was now standing before her wardrobe, looking at all of her clothes, trying to find something she would feel comfortable in, but also some outfit that would catch some eyes, your eyes especially.
Gosh, your eyes, that was one of the features that Tara caught first. She always had a soft spot for your eyes, they were so expressive. The first thing that changed on your face when your mood switched was your eyes; they were like a mirror to your soul. Of course, she never mentioned it, and with the highest possibility she never will, but Tara could look at them for whole days. Not your stupid face, only your eyes.
She let out a huff as she put on her outfit and put on a small amount of makeup. Today you were hanging out in your apartment, the meeting was at 7 pm, and because you and the brunette were neighbours, there wasn’t a reason for her to hurry up.
,,Hey.“ The younger girl sat herself on the couch beside Sam.
„Hey.“ Sam looked at her sister from her phone. „Where will you guys be today?“
Tara leaned against the backrest. „At Y/Ns.“ She said as she looked at the TV that played softly to fill the silence of the apartment.
„I haven't heard of her in a long time.“ The older sister said while putting her phone down. „How's she?“
Tara shrugged her shoulders. „Good, I guess, same old Y/N.“ She answered softly while playing with the hem of her shirt. Sam liked you, just like she liked your entire group, but there was always something more about you. Maybe the fact that Sam knew you the longest?
A smile slipped from the younger sister's lips as she remembered how every time you did something bad, like breaking Sam´s vase that was on the table, or Tara came home later than she was supposed to be. If in the story it was mentioned Y/N, suddenly everything was fine. Or more like: Okay, this time I´ll let it slide, but make sure there won't be a second time.
See? Totally soft spot.
„What are you smiling about?“ Sam asked with a teasing smile.
„I didn't smile.“ Tara shook her head. „You are seeing things.“
Her sister just kept looking at her, studying her expression. „If you say so.“
The silence filled the room, while the only sound was coming from the TV and the open window that reminded them of the world outside. Sam looked at the television before grabbing the remote.
„You know, I always thought there was something between the two of you.“ She said gently while looking through the programs.
Tara turned her head to her sister with wide eyes. „What do you mean?“
Sam just shrugged her shoulders, looking back at her sister. „I dunno, I just felt like you would end up together or something.“ The older sister looked back at the TV. „I always wondered how your friendship lasted that long because of how often you fought. How did that even happen? You were like this back when you were kids.“
The short brunette kept looking at her sister, as if she was looking through her head. Her fingers stopped playing with her shirt as she looked at the wall in front of her. „Well, Y/N and I have the same friends, of course, we would be with each other's presence.“
Her sister shook her head. „If you truly hated each other, you would not.“ Sam kept looking at Tara. „Why do you hate Y/N?“
„I don't hate her, she just... irritates me sometimes. But hate? Gosh, no, of course not.“ Tara said with a soft voice at the end. She bit her lower lip like it would make her concentrate on something else. „Do you think she hates me?“ the younger sister asked in a small voice while looking at Sam.
„Y/N?“ Sam smiled as she asked. „Do you think she is capable of hating something? Maybe like school or bus drivers.“ Sam said while Tara joined in the laugh. „I'm sure she doesn't hate you. I'm not even sure where that idea came from.“ Sam finished while smiling.
The younger sister looked at her lap, feeling some kind of realization in her chest. She breathed softly as flashbacks of you played in her head. Like that time where she had an asthma attack, and before she even got a chance to ask you for an inhaler your already gave it to her. Or a time when you got drunk and said her right dimple is deeper than the one on her left cheek. And how softly you looked at Demitra as she started walking away from your table the last time.
Tara also wanted that look, but on her. The look that was only meant for her.
„I like her Sam.“
„I know.“
-
Your whole living room was a mess. But not the kind of mess you would imagine. There were blankets and pillow everywehere, sweets, snacks, and bowls with popcorn. There were lit candles by your TV and shelfs that hung on the wall witch created a cozy mood.
„So what are we watching?“ Chad asked as he threw himself on the couch. Everyone was already there, and some were still in the kitchen preparing the drinks.
You were lying down on one of your sofas by the couch, scrolling on your phone. Ethan was sitting down with a bowl in his lap, slowly chewing the salted popcorn. With a remote in his hand, Chad was looking through the various movies to watch.
„We can watch some comedy, it has been a long time since we watched any.“ Mindy joined as she sat down beside Ethan.
„Well, it has been a long time since we hung out like this.“ Chad said back while his eyes were running across the TV.
„Exactly.“ Tara said while sitting on the other sofa, right opposite you. You were lying across the whole sofa, making it look smaller than it actually was. Across your lap was thrown a soft blanket, and your face was lit up from the light that came from your phone. „That's why it's a perfect time to start with Babadook.“ Tara said with a big, teasing smile.
But there was no reaction from you because of how interested you were in typing on your phone. Taras smile fell, that wasn't something she expected, she was waiting for your reaction to be strongly disagreeing with her suggestion. Every time she played the movie, you got grumpy, and the brunette enjoyed that.
„We hang out after such a long time, and we play Babadook? Definitely not, let's watch something we didn't watch yet.“ Chad said as his other hand grabbed a handful of popcorn from Ethan's lap.
„Yeah, like comedy!“ Mindy joined.
„No let’s watch a horror!“ Chad said back.
„Horror? I'm not in the mood for that.“ Ethan replied softly.
„What, are you afraid?“ Chad laughed as Ethan just rolled his eyes, not saying anything.
Tara watched the whole interation not feeling like interrupting them, she just sat comfortably down in her seat while scanning your quiet form.
„What do you wanna watch?“ With that question, the loudness of the three other people died down. At that change, you looked up from your phone to your friends.
„Oh, play whatever you want, I don't mind.“ You replied while looking back at your phone. But Tara minded.
„I thought we were hanging out, not just being in the same room on the phone.“ The brunette said back while leaning against the back of the sofa with crossed arms.
With that, you looked at her before quickly typing on your phone last time. You put it down on the table in the middle with a display without a word from your mouth.
The group scanned you.
„What?“ You shot back as you looked at them.
„Nothing, you just seem off.“ Chad said with a squinted eye.
Your eyebrow raised. „Off? What does that even mean?“
„You seem calmer. I dunno if it's because you are not overstimulated yet or because someone has calmed you down.“ Mindy said after chewing on some snacks.
You shook your head. „You are crazy, and if this is about Demitra again, you are mistaken; there is nothing between us.“
Those words made Tara's lungs breathe better.
„Nobody said that, buddy-“
„Great, then let's watch something finally.“ You motioned Chad to hand you the remote before playing some action film.
Throughout the whole time the movie played, Tara’s eyes were switching from the TV to you. The brunette couldn’t help herself, it was like her eyes were just finding the ways to always end up on you. She scanned your soft features that were seen from the small amount of light in the room. You were tucked in a blanket while your eyes closed a bit more every hour. With the end of the movie, some of you stood up from your spot and headed to the bathroom.
Mindy lit up the room and sat herself back while eating what was left on the table. Chad played some music in the background as your friends talked.
„Do you wanna pizza or something?“ you came back into the living room while waiting for an answer.
„Oh, yes, please!“
You nod with your head while taking some trash from the ground and table before heading to the kitchen. Tara stood up from her spot, taking a dirty dish to the kitchen. You were already standing by the kitchen sink, and she placed it beside you while leaning her back against the kitchen counter with crossed arms.
„What's up?“ you asked.
„Nothing?“
„Okay?“
Tara looked at you with a weird expression.
„What's with that face?“ You shot.
„Are you trying to create something?“ Tara barked back.
„What? I didn't even do anything! Gosh.” you huff as you dry your hand into the towel before grabbing the phone from the pocket of your pants.
„Oh, but you did, instead of thanking me for helping you, you judged.“
You just looked at her with a confused expression. „Judged what exactly?“
„Me? With your stupid face?“
You throw your head back in a groan. Taras eyes scanned your throat and the bones that were seen through your soft skin. Her eyes went down your body. You looked so warm with your hoodie and loose pants. You didn't even try, and you didn't need to, it was your energy that made you this way.
„Okay, thank you, my sweet little midget, for your big help.“ Taras expression fell, and the veins started to form on her forehead. „I ask myself... where would I be without you?“ You said with a sweet voice while smiling at her.
Tara wanted to throw something at you, like a knife. Or herself.
You smiled at her before heading to the living room.
„Dick.“ The brunette said under her breath.
„I heard you!“
Tara closed her eyes and let out a long breath. She needed to let these feelings go; it was stupid, and you were stupid. She would never want to be in a relationship with someone like you.
summary the first time that tara realized that maybe she’s too late
tags slowburn enemies to lovers jealous tara = angry tara
It has been a couple of days since the class project with Tara was done. You both got pretty great grades, even though you know the reason for it, but you won't say that out loud. Everything has been going smoothly lately.
Your school year was nearly over, giving you more freedom to play games with Ethan and socialize with others. Even Tara was noticeably calmer than usual. You almost feared mentioning it would ruin the streak.
You were just on your way to grab lunch. Chad texted in the group chat if anyone was down for some food, and who would you be to decline, right?
Chad looked up from his phone as you sat opposite him. „Hey, the rest just texted they will be here shortly.“ You just nod and pick up your phone, the newest notification catching your attention.
„What got you so smiley? “ Chad put his hand under his chin with a teasing smile. „Or who?“
You just roll your eyes. „You are literally delusional. I can't even open my phone anymore without your comments?“
Chad put both of his hands up. „I just asked. You are my friend.“ You huff as the words left his mouth. „But really... I was a little jealous you told Ethan about your new friend but not me.“ He said with his voice down.
„What friend?“ you ask in confusion.
„The one you talked to in the school and also at the last party. That pretty girl who comments on all of your posts on Instagram.“ He smiles at you, waiting for your reaction.
You look up at him with wide eyes. „You stalked her?!“
„What! No!“ he shook his head. „I-I just had her in my recommendations!“
„Liar! You totally checked her profile!“You point your finger at his face.
„Y/N! No! And but that finger off of my face!“ he grabs your hand and puts it down on the table. „Wait... why are you so protective of her?“He tilted his head a little before his eyes widened. „Is she your girlfriend?“
Your eyebrow rises with confusion. „No! Shes not!“
„Y/N got a girlfriend?“ Mindy asked, shocked as she sat beside you, looking between both of you.
„No, Mindy.“ You shake your head. „Chad just has a big mouth and even bigger head.“ You shot him a glare as everyone sat down at your table.
Mindy squints her eyes at you. „Is it about that girl from school?“ you sigh with frustration, already feeling all the eyes on you.
„Chad is just delusional, shes just a friend.“ You shuggle your shoulders.
Tara looks at you from the other side of the table with a strange expression. „A friend? Already?“
You look at her. „Yes? Is that a problem?“ She shot you a dry laugh, almost mocking you.
„Oh no,“ she took a sip from her drink, and you kept watching her, knowing she had something more to say. „How long have you been knowing her? Like three weeks?“ she looked back at you, holding eye contact. „And she is already your friend.“
You looked back at her in confusion, all written over your face. „What has gotten into you? And since when do you care?“
The brunette got stuck as your words sank into the air. Not knowing how to answer. „I- I do of course!“ she yelled in embarrassment. „I don't want some random to get into our circle.“
„She’s not some random! Demitra is a good girl.“ You say feeling like you need to protect your new friend.
It was true. Demi was a really good girl and an amazing friend, you don’t have to know her for years for you to notice. She’s exacly that kind of person that just clicks with you. The girl is smart and loyal, and everything she does, she puts her never-ending kindness and heart into it.
You almost regret not noticing her sooner.
Tara kept looking at you with anger and disgust. She put the rest of the toast she didn't get to finish down on the table in a huff. You shook your head at her manners. You truly didn't know what had gotten into her. Both of you were fine before- or maybe more like you accepted each other's presence since the project, you didn't bicker as before, only on special occasions. But this?
And Tara, well… Tara wasn’t feeling herself for some time now. She knew that, and the worst part is that others notice that too. She didn't know why; it’s not like something happened that made her feel this way. She just felt like something was bugging her, like when you feel your skin itchy but can’t find the exact spot where it is, so you just rub everything.
Yeah, that was her now, and she felt itchy everywhere. Everyone got on her nerves these days easily, and the brunette knew they didn't do anything, they weren’t the reason for her bad mood. They just existed, and that was enough for Tara’s nerves to burst.
Of course, she felt bad when she got herself some quiet time and processed everything that happened that day, but she just couldn’t swallow it. Oh boy, but she knew one thing… she hated Demitra with her whole heart.
,,Y/N!” By just the sound of the voice, Tara’s knuckles were turning white. The brunette swore that every time she heard Demi’s voice, her life got shorter for ten years. That girl was no good for your group; she didn’t belong here, and she could try however she wanted, she would never get into your circle. That said, Tara’s secret mission was not to let that girl rip your group apart.
You turned to the side you heard the girl’s voice. ,,Oh, hey,” you said gently, ,,how are you?”
Demitra smiled kindly at you. ,,Good, thank you.” Tara rolled her eyes at the stupid small talk. ,,I don’t wanna interrupt you-“
,,Nonsense!” You cut her off, ,,You are not, right guys?” You looked at your group of friends with wide eyes.
,,Of course! I mean, we didn’t have time to properly meet! I’m Chad!” Chad was first to talk while offering a friendly smile. After that, he introduced everyone at the table. Including Tara. The brunette’s nerves were now on fire. She hated how much it affected her.
,,Nice to meet you, everyone! Y/N talks a lot about you!” She offers a gentle smile before focusing on you again. Tara looked at your face after Demi’s words left her mouth. She wondered if you spoke about her, too. If you mentioned your arguments or how you easily get on each other's nerves. Or how you did your group project together, how you went on a roller coaster and yelled on top of your lungs from fear while holding her hand tightly in yours. Tara’s face softened for a moment while she studied yours. Your eyes and nose, the curve of your lip, and how your hair falls gently against your forehead—
,,I brought you a milk-“ Demi’s voice was heard again. ,,I know how hard it is to get lacto-free milk in the school area, and I didn’t want you to feel tired”.
Ethen covered his mouth before letting out a small smile. Your eyes widen as you straighten your back to sit properly while looking up at your new friend before quickly shooting a glance at your group. ,,Oh!” You stutter a little as she handed you a bottle of lacto-free milk. ,,I-Thank you so much!” You smiled awkwardly while going with it.
Tara frowns at you. ,,You aren’t even lactose intolerant, you moron. Why would you even need that?”
,,And how do you know that?” Your voice got a little louder as you kept your eyes on her, like silently telling her to let that go. Tara crossed her arms against her chest while looking at you with a strange expression. Demitra kept looking between you for a moment before gently saying her goodbyes. That made Tara happy, but it would made her even happier if the girl left without shooting you a long stare and a smile.
The moment Demi left, you heard a loud laugh from your table.
,,Did you really tell her you have intolerance?” Mindy laughed while holding onto her stomach.
,,I didn’t know what to do! She caught me off guard!” You protected yourself as you tried to explain the embarrassing moment that happend couple of weeks ago.
,,Well,” Ethan looked up at you and smiled, ,,she remembered that, and even though it’s a lie, I think it’s sweet.” At that, some nodded their heads while some just rolled their eyes.
Your eyes kept following her back as she was walking away. Somehow you couldn’t take your eyes off of her.
You didn’t understand why or when you started feeling that way. It’s not a crush, at least that’s what you think. You dont’t feel like talking to anyone about it, maybe not just yet. But it’s because you don't feel like it’s anything serious, or maybe you’re just not brave enough? You keep drowning yourself in your own thoughts as your eyes keep watching her distant form.
,,Ouch!” Sudden sharp pain was felt right under your knee. ,,Hey!” You turned to Tara with an angry expression on your face.
,,Don’t look at her, you creep!” She yelled before she looked down at her food again with crunched eyebrows. With a sigh and head shaking, you quickly forget about that moment. But that wasn’t the case for some others who felt the change of energy.

Tara was lying on her bed in her bedroom. This past weeks were exhausting to her, the school was a lot as well as everything around it. She barely had time to herself or her friends, and when she did, all she felt was frustration. This past week, she didn’t hear anything else other than Demi here - Demi there, Demi got me, Demi was, Demi, Demi, Demi— for fuck sake.
The brunette threw her head back on the pillow with a groan. Was she only focusing on the negatives? Is that why she felt constantly on edge? Tara was starting to get desperate. With a small sigh, she sat up on the edge of her bed and looked at her nightstand. She pushed herself off the bed, sat down, and reached for a small box.
The box was the brown eyes girl’s nostalgia. When she got something that she wanted to keep or had somehow cared about, she left it here.
Her fingers were met with friendship bracelets from the people she no more talk to, small papers of conversation with her friends that were written in class, stickers, random cards, and photos. Her hand reached for her latest photo that was added to the box. Tara and you. Her eyes slowly ran across every detail of the photo, almost as if she wished she would find something else other than what she already remembered from the times she studied this photo. Without notice, her lips formed a gentle smile. Tara wouldn’t tell a word about how this photo was one of her favourites. How your expression was so authentic and non-controlled, how both of hers and yours eyes disappeared from the big smiles, and of course, how her hand was tightly in yours. Tara sighed and leaned against her bed.
when’s chapter 7 in desperate and on the verge of crashing out due to schoolll
idk by the end of this week or in a couple of days i don’t really feel motivated or inspired at the moment haha but i feel you :’) exam season is coming like a water but we got this!! we can do it
Tara always got what she wanted. Always. Did she think she was spoiled? No, not really. She didn´t think she was spoiled, she just hated the idea of not getting what she wanted and everyone around her knew it. Especially her sister.
She and Sam were the same yet so different. They looked the same, cared for one another the same and almost enjoyed the same things. But what they didn´t share was opinions and judgment. The viewing of the world and its look. The sentiment. But at the end of the day, things were thrown into the trash because they had nothing to do with love.
They would do first and last for each other.
These were the things that the young Carpenter appreciated the most. Having family and friends that she could rely on and trust. She would do anything to protect her circle of the people she loves. Why was she even thinking that way right now?
Because of her.
At the time Tara got home she already scrutinized the girl. Found out her name and birthday, her family and the names of her friends as well as her pet, which was by the way pretty cute but Tara didn´t want to get distracted and soft by that idea.
She checked who she follows and...
„This bitch.“ Tara whispered under her breath after she found your account in her following list. Of course, she already did that. Tara wouldn´t be surprised if she already texted you. Her fists clenched at that thought.
Her finger pressed the small round photo of yours to get into your page. Your photos and highlights loaded and Tara started to stalk. No, she wasn´t a stalker and she definitely wasn´t stalking you, she was just looking for her friend.
Friend.
That´s what you are now? To Tara you have always been someone close to her friends, you were in her friend group but she never took you as a friend. She got feeling she wasn´t your friend either but... she needed to take care of you because of her friends, no?
She clicked on the last post of yours which were some random photos you took like school and coffee, there was even Ethan who looked like he didn´t enjoy being photographed, the last photo was you with a headset around your head doing some weird faces.
You were pretty cute, yeah so what? She finally said that but that doesn´t mean you aren´t getting on her nerves every time you open your stupid mouth.
„Your right dimple is deeper than the left one.“
Tara´s corners of her mouth got up a little.
After that, she pressed the button of the comments. Chad was laughing at Ethan and also Ethan cursing you. The last comment is what made Tara´s smile drop. It was from that girl, an emoji with a heart in her eyes.

Sam was minding her business in the next room when she suddenly heard a loud sound coming from her younger sister´s room.
„What the hell is she doing?“

The bright sun shining through the window right into your eyes was the first thing your brain processed. Maybe if you were a little bit smarter last night and didn´t drink like an alcoholic you would be in a better state.
„Ugh someone help.“ you rolled on the side of your bed and stood up. You felt disgusting you smelled bad and your hair was everywhere. The clothes from the night before were still on you only now they looked all folded and wet from your sweat.
You grabbed your phone that was on your table seeing a lot of unopened messages as well as a low battery. Suddenly it started ringing signalizing a phone call.
„Hello?“ you said with your throat hurting a little.
„Y/N? Hey buddy, you okay?“
„I´m fine Ethan, I just woke up what´s up?“
„Oh, sorry! I was just a little worried about you I didn´t see you yesterday leaving and also didn´t hear from you so I just wanted to check.“ he said with a quick explanation.
„Oh I just drank a little more than I should have yesterday.“ you laughed a little still with not much energy. You just wanted to take a shower and go to bed again.
„You don´t feel fine? Should I come? I-“
„No Ethan it´s fine, I´m fine just a little exhausted but nothing serious. Don´t stress yourself.“
„Oh.“ he said quietly trying to read your voice. „If you say so, but if anything just text me, okay? I want to be here for my friend.“
You smiled at his words. No doubt he was your best friend. „Of course. Thanks, buddy.“
You grabbed new clothes and went straight to the shower. It was like an invisible relief that was washed off of you. After that, you put on some sweatpants with a hoodie and went to lie down again. Suddenly your phone lit up with a new message.
Demi: Hey you ok? I was worried ab you last night
Demi: when you wake up text me
Demi: Y/N
It was Demitra? Were you that much wasted that everybody knows it or what? Oh Gosh, you prayed that you didn´t do anything embarrassing what will everybody remember for the rest of their lives when they look at you?
And even though, why was she so worried, it wasn´t like you knew each other that long. But it was good to have someone to worry about you except your best friend.
Y/N: hey sorry to worry!
Y/N: everything fine promise
She immediately saw your text and replied to you. You spent a pretty long time just texting and lying around, having no energy to do anything more. Demitra was a good girl. She was attentive and soft-spoken. You weren´t an idiot, you saw that she was interested in you, otherwise she wouldn´t try to talk to you every time she saw you or texted you, right?
But was she someone you would go out? You´ve never thought about it not anyone. Maybe it was time to finally step up from this introverted state and go to see some new people. Who knows, maybe it will lead to her. The question is, would you be mad about it?

The knock on your door was a thing that tore you off of watching the TV. You kept lying down with a confused face. But the knock was there again only this time louder.
„Are you serious.“ you got up not wanting to leave your comfortable couch. Behind your door was Mindy and Chad with Ethan and behind him Tara.
„And what are you doing here huh?“ you asked as you opened the door wider for them to come in.
„Why are you asking so offended do you have someone in here?“ Chad said with a smirk on his face.
„Y/N why the hell is so dark in here? I feel like I´m in a cave!“ Mindy yelled as she went to your window to unfold the curtains.
Tara turned around and scrunched her nose. „Ew it smells so bad in here, do you ever open your windows?“
„Oh my and this trash, when was the last time you cleaned your house Y/N?“ Chad asked. Your nerves were getting higher with each word that left their mouth. Did you come to annoy you?
„You came here just to get on my nerves or what?“
„Y/N I bought you a soup.“ you turned to Ethan who was standing across the room with a small can of food. He was so cute that you would never forgive yourself if you said something hurtful.
„Thanks, Ethan you are the best.“
Chad sat down on your couch taking a controller into his hand. „And I´m not?“
„No, you are an idiot.“ you smiled vacantly at him. „And anyway weren´t you also drunk last night?“ you asked him.
„Well yeah but I guess I can just handle it better than you.“ he smiled.
„Handle it better my ass.“ you whispered under your breath with an annoyed look.
-
„How do you feel?“
You turned to the side seeing Tara leaning by the kitchen door. Her arms were folded and her eyes were focused on you.
„Fine, I guess.“ you said as you took another spoon of Ethan´s soup into your mouth.
She higher up her eyebrows as if she didn´t believe you. „I´m pretty surprised, you were like a different person last night.“ Your eyes widen at her words.
„No I wasn´t! I was completely fine!“
„Raising your voice is only making me sure that you don´t remember a thing.“ she unfolded her arms and went into your fridge.
„Yeah I forgot that you know everything.“ you shot her an angry look. „And what do you think you are doing?“
„Serving myself?“ she grabbed some snack that was there opened it and took a bite. „And yeah, I know because I was taking care of your drunk ass yesterday you idiot.
„So what? You want me to thank you?“ you looked at her with face puppy dog eyes. She rolled your eyes at your child's behavior.
„That´s what it should be.“
„Yeah like hell that I will thank someone like you. I don´t remember it so I´m taking it like it never happened to shut your short ass up.“
„What did you say you moron?“ she ran to you and slapped your shoulder with all her strength.
„Ow! What the fuck is wrong with you?“ you stood up looking down at her with anger across your face.
„Me? You are the one that doesn´t have the basics or polite behavior!“ she yelled into your face with her big brown eyes standing almost on her tippy toes to look more intimidating.
„Will you two stop it´s getting annoying!“ Mindy yelled from the living room. You huffed before you grabbed the plate with your soup to leave.
Tara looked down at her hand and then looked at you. „Great now I have to use hand sanitizer!“
You pleased all the angels and every creature that can hear you for your help not to throw that soup at her at that moment.

Tara was sitting on your couch beside Mindy. You all were watching some show that was already on when they came in. Your eyes were barely open leaning your head on Ethan´s shoulder. Without her noticing Tara smiled a little at sigh.
„Can someone pass me that please?“ you asked with a low voice pointing at the snack that was on a table in front of you.
„You can get it yourself.“ Tara mumbled.
„But I said please!“
„So? That means you will get whatever you want?“
You just sighed at her words yet not changing your position. Ethan bent over to get it for you but before his hand was able to get it someone else already did that.
Tara grabbed the snack and threw it on you. Then she turned to watch the show again without any word like nothing happened. You just caught the snack with a small thank you. Everyone in the room saw this small interaction. Of course, they did it didn´t happen a lot of times that you two acted like friends, not like enemies. So whenever this happens they smile a little having some kind of calmness in their chests.
After the show, everyone went somewhere in the house leaving Tara still in the place. She was scrolling down on her phone out of boredom when suddenly your phone rang with a notification. That caught the brunette's attention. It was a message from the Instagram dm´s.
The girl looked up if someone was coming before taking your phone into her hands. Demi. Demi?! You were texting each other? Who did text first? Was it her? And what did you even talk about?
Tara desperately wanted you to just block her, she was no good. Tara hated her with all her heart.
