Ine no Funaya, Kyoto

I didn’t even press play and I knew this was gonna be good! 😂😂
put this in the MOMA
I see no difference.
Nearly there.
“He has potential”. Three words I’ve heard Three times a year. Every year. Too many years. In through one ear, Out the next.
You see my mind’s a pest I’ve made a mess But I’m trying my best- Honest. “There’s lots up there”, I say. It’s not fair I cant bear The thought of being misunderstood “I’m good”, I promise.
But there’s no getting through It’s just no use You see my mind’s a pest I’ve made a mess But I’m trying my best. Maybe one day I’ll get there- Reign it in, catch the threads.
But for now: You can find me here, Nearly there Nearly there.
What I know.
The trees outside get no light this time of day. They’re silhouetted against moody blue sky, Bruise-colour. Branches feel like black illustrations On a darkened page, their searching fingers Find their way into the paper’s grain Like feathered strokes of a brush.
Inky apparitions that seem frozen, slightly. They move a little But not enough, not like in the day. It took me a while to comprehend that Colour dissolves In the absence of light. There’s no such thing as green, really. No purple, no red. It’s all in our head, I suppose.
I’m older now And some might say that the more you know The less magic there is. But now, Somehow I find the polar opposite to be true. I find magic not in what I don’t know But what I can know. I’ve grown. I understand what colours are, Why they look the way they do. The world isn’t losing its magic. Not at all.
We sit nebulous in steam// It calms the air and makes the windows stream// rippling the hinterland’s big houses to a blur// of bedsits - not a patch on what they were before.
