Hey! I've got a bit peculiar question but... Do you treat otome protagonists as separate characters or do you only see them as self-inserts? Or it depends on the heroine? Because I've seen some people in otome community who are really mean about all otome protagonists and bully people who do not self insert 🥲 (english is not my first language, so sorry if my wording sounds confusing)

Hello! I never self-insert, I always see the protagonists as separate characters. You could compare it to Orion in Amnesia, I see myself as the little spirit above the heroines’ heads, helping them make the choices that seem best to me 🤣

That’s also why if you look at my favorite characters in otome games and my OTPs, it’s not unusual to see different characters. Even if I really like a character, sometimes I think: “But she would actually be better with this other character. They make a better couple and their story is cuter.” x)

If you’re talking about the otome community on Twitter, honestly that doesn’t surprise me. If you end up in the wrong circle, you can definitely see people talking like that. Especially since the huge success of Love and Deepspace, I feel like a lot of “new” otome fans don’t understand that not everyone self-inserts.

That’s especially true for Love and Deepspace, for example, I basically created a character with her own personality and appearance that doesn’t look like me at all. It's more funny for me. (Or My Candy Love)

But I promise that if you follow the right people on social media, you’ll see that there are also many people who don’t self-insert! The people who are mean and bully others about it are really being stupid, and their behavior just shows that they don’t actually understand otome games at all.

If I could, I would defend you, because this kind of behavior really annoys me. People should be free to play however they want. It’s like these people have never heard of DnD or never created their own character before. It’s honestly sad.

(And don’t worry, English isn’t my first language either, so I hope my long message is understandable lol.)
