Personal Purification Ritual
The candle you use can be one that you like regularly in the kitchen as you work, Or it can be one that you keep for this particular purpose or for purifications in general. It does not need to be burned down completely.
You will need: ●A small candle (color of your choice, white is always a good substitute) ● Matches or a lighter ● Small bowl or dish of salt - For an extra push you can use the purification oil. Put a drop or 2 on your wrists when performing this ritual.
1. Light the candle and set it on the table.
2. Place the bowl of salt on the table and sit down. Take the time to settle and fully feel yourself in the moment and be mindful of your actions. 3. Take a few cleansing breaths and lift your hands. Place your fingers in the bowl of salt.
4. Close your eyes and breathe deeply. As you exhale, Visualize any negative energy or the undesired emotion flowing down your arms and out through your fingers, being absorbed by the salt.
5. Continue to do this as long as it takes to clear yourself of the unwanted energy or emotion.
6. Remove your fingers from the salt and open your eyes. Focus on the candle burning on the table. Breathe in, And as you do, Visualize the warmth and brightness of the flame being drawn into your body, Filling it with light, Beauty, And warmth.
7. Do this until you feel refreshed, Focused, And calm. Extinguish the candle. Dispose of the salt by dissolving it in water and pouring it down the sink.
- This Ritual was found in "The House Witch"- by Arin Murphy-Hiscock.

A Deep Room Cleanse
The state of my room is extremely important to me. It’s a direct reflection of my mental health, so when it’s messy, my energy levels are low and I just feel yucky. There’s no way I’m getting any kind of work done, magical or mundane. When it feels good and clean to be in, it’s a lot easier to deal with my symptoms and be productive. You don’t have to do every step every time of course, but each step has helped me so I figured a list like this might help someone.
Change the lighting. Use natural sources of light (like pulling back the curtains and letting the sun in) over artificial ones. If you have salt lamps to turn on, those are still very nice. If you need artificial light to keep it from being too dark, try to prioritize light bulbs you like the color of, and ones that don’t whistle quietly when they’re on.
Change the airflow. Open a window, if you can. Often our rooms feel yucky because the air is stale. Get some fresh air moving. If it’s too cold, it’s okay to only keep it open for a few minutes or put on a coat while you work because you’re stubborn like me.
Change the sound. Put on your favorite cleansing music. Let it soak into the room. I tend to go or ambient spa stuff, or playlists that sound built for a rainy day. (Note: the music that helps you cleanse the best may not be the same as what you like the most. The playlist should keep you focused/uplifted while you work and reflect the vibes you want your room to have.)
Change the smell. Take out the trash, maybe refresh the sheets on your bed. Light a scented candle, some incense, heat up some oil, something to make your room smell distinctly different from the mucky-feeling room from before. (If your method of choice is something short like a room spray, I actually like doing it at the very end.)
Actually clean and organize. Nothing junks up the energy of a room more quicker than actual junk. Organize everything as much as you can (this might mean finally gutting your closet, even if you can close the door and hide it.) Wipe down any surfaces that need it, get everything fresh and functional again. Do some laundry while you work. If you have clothes or trinkets that are just collecting dust, extra points for purging them!
Cleanse any sacred spaces by themselves. A lot of us have altars or shrines in our rooms. A sacred space can also be just an extra important area of your room, like a reading nook. Make sure to give them extra attention! You don’t need to wipe the board energetically (and probably shouldn’t), but taking a little extra time to clean surfaces, straighten up, and make sure everything feels okay on them goes a long way.
Cleanse in your regular way. Bust out the herb bundles, the bells, the ribbons, the broom, whatever you usually do to cleanse a space! The room is SUPER primed for it now, most of the negative energy probably already feels removed if not broken down. A good once-over with your favorite cleansing method should finish it off nicely.
Refresh any wards or protections. Self explanatory. If you maintain energy borders in your room, now is a good time to check in on them and zhoosh them if needed. Keep the space clean for longer!
Practice self-care. Take a shower, a nap, eat some food, whatever you need. You’ve put in a lot of work and you deserve it.

Herbs Charge an item with corresponding herbs by passing them through herb smoke, anointing with herbal oils, etc
Sound Use singing bowls, bells, or corresponding music to fill an item or space with energy
Banishing & Warding
What’s the Difference?
Warding is… a gentler form of defensive magic. It’s used in a general sense. Warding is used to protect and guard from negative energies. It is used to redirect energy away from you or your space.
Banishing is… far more specific and direct. It’s used to get rid of a particular energy, spirit, or person. Banishing is a very strong form of defensive magic.
Warding Methods
Guardians Create a guardian to guard your home or space from negative energies. Use a small object, enchant it with your intention, and keep it in a safe, permanent place.
Crystals Corresponding crystals can be worn as jewelry to protect against negative energy. Placing crystals in a room or around your house will create a protective barrier.
Salt Sprinkle salt around your doors and windows or make protection jars.
Herbs Burn protective herbs and pass the smoke through your space or tools or sprinkle herbal oils and tinctures on yourself and your space for protective barriers.
Visualization Use your intention and energy to visualize a powerful barrier of protecting light around yourself or your space.
Banishing Methods
Use the Elements Burn a slip of paper with your target's name on it. Throw a leaf with your target’s name on it into a running river. Burn corresponding herbs and pass the smoke through your space.
Candles Anoint your candles with corresponding herbs and oils, then burn it. When the candle has burned out, the banishing is complete
Sigils Make your own banishing sigil or find one that resonates with you. Place it in the space or on the item you are banishing energy from.
Herbs & Tinctures Use herbal smoke to force energy out of a space or object. Make a spray or herbal tincture to sprinkle around your home.
A Simple Shower Spell
For when you’re in pain (emotional or physical) or for when you just need a little something extra that day.
This can be done any time of day, feel free to experiment with what you find most effective.
As you step into the shower, take a moment to stand under the water and feel it gently patting onto your skin.
“Flowing water from above,
Wash over me
With peace and love.
As you flow down the drain,
Take from me,
My ache and pain.”
Continue your shower as usual. Feel free to add (water safe!) Crystals around your shower as well to help amplify the spell.
Grounding Masterpost 🌱
GROUNDING— To ground is an exercise that is used to clear and release excess energy, as well as to renew the energies within oneself and clear out the old. Traditionally done by envisioning roots stretching out from oneself into the ground, like a tree, and connecting through them to the earth. However, it can be done with simple visualization, and does not need to include nature, as long as the cycling of energy is completed.
grounding can be a long focused ritual, it can be a simple few movements. there are a variety of ways to ground besides these guided methods listed, it can be done in almost any way that cycles new energy in and old energy out.
🌱 grounding, a quick how-to 🌱 fire grounding 🌱 coffee grounding 🌱 storm grounding 🌱 star grounding 🌱 moon grounding 🌱 sea grounding 🌱
Cleansing with the 4 elements is one of the first things I learned in Witchcraft and a really simple way to cleans tools, ritual items and even yourself. The process is really simple and involves passing each item through an elemental representation. The best part is that you can find things outside or use items you already have to represent each element in your cleansing. I still use this cleanse on the reg, especially with new items, tarot and just really anything that I feel like needs a good energy clearing.
The first thing you need to do is find or acquire an item that represents each of the 4 elements, Earth, Air, Fire and Water. Use 4 separate items. I’ve listed below my suggestions but feel free to use whatever representation makes sense and speaks to you.
Element Representation
For Earth you can use small potted plants, dried herbs, leaves, small sticks, crystals or even smooth rocks.
Air representations can include bird feathers (that have fallen off naturally), incense or dandelions.
For fire you can use candles of any kind, incense or metal objects that have been welded like old keys and small trinkets like rings or pendants.
Water is the easiest, use a small glass or bowl of water. (Bonus if it’s moon water.) You can also use sea shells, tea cups, or even brewed hot tea.
Don’t feel stuck to these items only. If something speaks to you and you feel like it represents an element for you, use that item instead. The best representations to elements are ones that have a personal connection to you.
Cleansing
After collecting your items, place them on your alter or on a flat surface where you will be doing your cleanse. Space out each elemental representation in a square starting with Earth. Light any incense or candles if you have them for your element representations.
Now, take the object you are going to cleanse and ‘pass them through’ each element starting with Earth. For instance if you are cleansing a new ritual tool and are using crystals for your Earth representation simply pass the item over AND under the crystal to cleanse of the energy. When you’re done move onto the next element. Repeat until all 4 elements are used and your items is cleansed.
Safe Keeping
Keep your element ritual items in a small box or drawstring bag until next time and leave them in a space where they won’t be disturbed. If you have items you can’t keep such as leaves from outside or water in a cup, you can bury the contents outside or use the water to water plants.

Cleansing
If you’ve been researching witchcraft, you’ve probably come across the term “cleansing.” It’s usually considered a basic skill in witchcraft (depending, of course, on the practice). Please note that this IS NOT SYNONYMOUS WITH SMUDGING. Smudging is a closed indigenous American practice, and one I am not qualified to speak on.
The idea is that items, especially ones used for magic, tend to pick up stale or unwanted energies. We cleanse them to refresh the item’s energy. You can also cleanse a space or your person.
How often one should cleanse tends to vary between practitioners. Some are more sensitive to the accumulated unwanted energies and might cleanse every week, while others might cleanse once a month or even just a few times a year. I tend to find that I need to cleanse objects I use often more regularly than I do my space or objects I use more rarely. I also try to cleanse my self at least once a week.
There’s also the idea that cleansing too often can sort of “reset” an object. While this isn’t always a bad thing, it means that you might have to re-bond with a cleansed tool (such as a tarot deck). Not everyone seems to have this issue, though, so feel it out and figure out what works for you!
Methods
Bath or Shower: for self-cleansing! Visualize the water washing residual energies off your body. You can add a little salt or a cleansing oil to the bath for a little extra magic.
Cleaning: cleaning a room helps to clear out negative energies.
Diffusing EOs: sage, lavender, citrus, peppermint, frankincense, cedarwood, clary sage
Open a Window: let the fresh air clean out negative energies.
Sage: burning sage incense or a sage sticks in each room of a house to cleanse it is a very good way to push out unwanted entities without the aggression of banishing.
Salt or Rice: in corners of rooms and doorways. Also acts as a ward!
Sound: particularly chimes, bells, or soft, happy music.
Adding on to a previous post! It is great to cleanse your house but it is better to physically purge! I’m not a minimalist but I can’t do clutter. All things have a place and a purpose in my house, otherwise I can’t function in it. I want to walk in to a home that feels like the biggest motherfucking hug you’ve ever had.

Different ways to cleanse your space
sage - now, don't use white sage unless you are indigenous to native america, but if you do use this to cleanse your space, remember this is like bleach.. it gets rid of all the energies, negative AND positive
salt - put a bowl near the front door to stop negative energy entering your home, or put a pinch in each corner of your room
essential oils - put in a humidifier and set it with your intention and leave it to cleanse your space AND smell amazing
Incense - pick a incense that resonates with what you are trying to achieve, and light the end of it letting the flame burn for 10 seconds or so before blowing it out, making sure the end is still hot... volia!
Letting fresh air into your space - open up your windows and doors!
Plants - having living plants in your room is a great way to purify the air as well as the energy in your room.
lemon - place wedges of fresh lemon, or lemon essential oils around the space to cleanse it of negative energy
Selenite - walk around with a piece of selenite or leave it in a room to cleanse the space
just tidy up your room!

Purification vs. Cleansing
These get mixed up a TON and most people use the term purification incorrectly and i want to clear it up to make it easier to understand the difference between them. They sound much like the same thing but they are entirely separate.
Let's say you have a red sweater, it's a great sweater and it's your favorite, but you have worn it a lot recently and it's looking a little dingy and needs to be washed. So you put it in the wash and tumble it dry and it comes out fresh and clean - This is cleansing. It is removing the dirt and energetic gunk that can accumulate after a while.
Now, it's been a while since you have had this sweater and maybe Red isn't your color anymore or you want a new color sweater (purple, blue, yellow, or whatever). So you decide to bleach it. You strip all the color out of the sweater and you are left with a nice white sweater. But white wasn't what you wanted, you wanted purple, or blue, or what have you. This is purification. Stripping the energy in your space so you have a blank slate. It strips away all good and negative energy and you are left with true neutrality... A white sweater.
How do you make it a different color? You dye it. If you want the color (energy) to be different, you must first strip it all away and replace the color with something new. After purification you have to add energy back into the space. Dance, sing, light some incense or an herb bundle while stating your intention for the new energy of the space, open your windows, play some music that fits the vibe of what you want in your energetically new space. Replace that energy with something new to be what you want.
— ways to cleanse that aren’t smoke
i’m moving into a dorm soon and i’m not allowed to burn incense, so here are some ways i’m planning to cleanse!
sound! i love cleansing with music, my singing bowl, or bells.
selenite/other cleansing crystals. i use my selenite plate to cleanse and charge my jewelry, crystals, and other tools. i also use my selenite wand to cleanse and charge tools!
light. sunlight or moonlight can cleanse or charge tools! i typically see it used more for charging but i’ve used it for cleansing as well.
wind! i enjoy going outside on windy days, standing still, and feeling the wind push the stale and stagnant energy out of me.
salt/magical powders! i make blends of salt and herbs for spellwork. one of my favorites is a salt, ground sage, and eggshells. when i clean my altar, ill spread the salt mix over the tabletop and and by wiping it off, it cleanses the altar. this can also be done on the floors of a room or a house, and swept or vacuumed up!
lemons. lemon is one of my favorite cleansers! i love drinking lemon water, i have lemon in my shampoo so im extra cleansed when i shower, and sometimes ill cut a lemon into quarters, put salt on both sides, and leave it in a room to cleanse the space!
