hey what age do you start feeling like a real person
jws can toast / clink glasses together now apparently
previously not allowed bc it was originally a practice meant to dispel evil spirits or whatever, but now it "doesn't hold that meaning in today's culture" so it's fine to do (unless it personally upsets your conscience)
like. lol. lmao even.
utterly fascinated at all the things being changed lately but the reasoning on this one is really standing out to me. so like as long as enough time has passed that the origins of any particular practice have been forgotten by mainstream society, it's totally cool to partake in it right? how long until jws are allowed to say "bless you" when someone sneezes? if we all collectively choose to forget that john the baptist was beheaded can we get birthdays back on the table??
"Homosexuality is righteous; Let God be found a liar"
This is my first piece in a series of blackout poems using magazine texts distributed by the governing body of Jehovah's Witnesses, all of which are publicly available online for viewing.
The project (not yet titled) aims to show unabashed declarations of queer love, resilience, and spiritual reclamation, while also acknowledging the pain and grief so often caused by high-control religious groups; shunning is one such example.
Being an ex-jw myself, my hope is that other sexual and gender minority peoples who have been negatively impacted--either directly or indirectly--by religious teachings and practices, will find these pieces a source of healing.
Source text from May 15, 1970 issue of 'The Watchtower' - 'The Spread of Homosexuality', which can be read here: https://wol.jw.org/en/wol/d/r1/lp-e/1970365
shoutout to the list i made during convention to keep myself sane
hey quick survey you guys are all not teens right
whooo else is thinking about ghosting their friends again
they haven’t done anything btw i just have a brain that wants me to run away from everything forever
whooo else is thinking about ghosting their friends again
my mom from what she told me was a black liberationist who was born during the civil rights era and she told me she was so close to protesting with the other black folk, but unfortunately she got turned away from that due to the Jehovah's witness cult essentially brainwashing her to be "chaste and reliant on God"
this shit is rooted in white supremacy and it pisses me off because I would have had a cool mom lol.
Jehovah's witnesses are known to colonize other people of color and their traditions through ministry work from around the world and it's disgusting how much people they brainwash, and how it's usually people of color in remote areas, poverty, or islands. literally white supremacy.
can confirm, i was raised as a jehovah’s witness and it pisses me off so much.
not allowed to get involved in anything even remotely “political” even if it directly affects you. basically supposed to “just be patient and rely on god to rectify it”. they villainize tf out of things like protesting
when working with people of color in different countries they do a lot of work to strip away your cultural identity while still claiming to “celebrate” people of all backgrounds. many important cultural traditions are seen as demonic or bad and they ban a lot of them entirely. it’s really stupid to me i could go on and on about the shit they do
sorry i hope i’m not hijacking your post. this topic just really gets to me, i hate them taking advantage of these groups, especially ones in remote areas, especially areas with poor education so they’re not aware that they’re being taken advantage of, some of the people tasked to do this aren’t even aware of how fucked up it is because the members are also brainwashed by the higher-ups in positions of power. it’s all fucked
It's crazy to me how you can have a bunch of elders who are literally too old to do the job (like can't operate a computer where all the work happens old) and then refuse to allow any women to help, just pile all the work on a couple of other guys who can just barely get it done w all the other things they have to do.
Like I keep talking to women who are very aware they could help w all this work and are willing to and are frustrated that they can't BC of how they were born, but refuse to say anything too critical BC it's the GB that said it has to be so.
And then I have ppl interrogating me about living a double life BC I'm not baptised at my age and it's like girl... The answer is what we were just talking about...
every time i get close to someone i feel like a stray dog trying to live in a house. like i don’t know where to put my body or how loud i’m allowed to be.
Growing up is actually all about realizing people don’t inherently dislike you and it’s a bit odd to assume they do
This
there are more tweets in this thread
fucking SLAY
this isnt even the full thread, there are even MORE tweets to this thread that i think are really necessary to read if you do what op is talking about! it is not enough to know that feeling this way hurts the people you love, we already know that.
this rest of the thread continues after the third tweet from the reblog.
like THE FULL THREAD is genuinely so reassuring.
sometimes, it is not enough to just know, sometimes you might need that reassurance of "do you really think of me when i'm away?" and someone reassuring you that yeah, they do. and evaluate that! trust that! just like op did.
and then learning that ykw, it's NOT any of my business really. and finding comfort in that trust that like. whether they are or aren't thinking of me, they really do love me.
this full thread changed my life and i am ALWAYS going to give the full thread because the parts people cut out aren't enough for the people experiencing these things, speaking as someone who does. it, really it just makes us, made me, feel bad about my own capabilities when i saw the unfinished thread.
no matter how awful life gets at least im not in EMDR therapy anymore 🎉
pro tip do not visit the unsent project website after 5 pm
what they don’t tell you about being gay born-in is that sometimes you get crushes on people in the hall and that’s when The Horrors start
Fyodor Dostoyevsky, The Gentle Spirit
when your jw family start talking about the future and then they get to that one part about “trusting the governing body even if their instructions are weird”
