I finally did something I always wanted to try and that is: make a vlog and actually post it online.
I always liked to film and edit short clips documenting moments in my day, practically just fragments and posting them on my Instagram. But today, I finally did it my friends, and I actually feel proud but also very anxious indeed.
Crazy thing is, it took an online class for me to get pushed into finally doing it. It was basically worth half of my midterm exam. Yes, HALF. Which meant that there was no way that I can talk my way out of it.
I wanted my content to be personal, but here’s the thing. I’m not comfortable being in front of a camera. I mean, I’m okay filming myself, but not me face front and talking. I actually felt nervous trying to talk to a LENS! Being in a room alone and essentially talking to myself actually made me feel nervous, now just imagine me in person ha!
So, I had to think of a solution for this. I wanted my video to connect with my audience without actually having face to face interaction just yet. I wanted at least some of my personality in this video, because while editing (which I will talk more about later on) even though my track (music) choice felt appropriate for the vibe. It still felt like it was lacking. It was my own video and I didn’t even want to finish watching it myself because I was getting bored of my own montages.
Anyways, at the end of editing everything in, I decided to add in voice overs. Boy do I feel glad that I did that because in the first hour of my upload I was already getting interaction in the comments which was a huge relief.
Filming and Editing
I can say that I enjoy editing more than filming, because that’s where most of the fun begins, and that’s where I can really squeeze out my creativity. I’ve always wanted to practice color grading but never filmed any clips on my camera that would motivate me to actually do it.
Straight out of wiki color grading essentially is “The process of improving the appearance of an image for presentation in different environments on different devices”. This just totally transforms any video that you take because this dictates the look and feel of the entire video. It sets the overall “aesthetic” if you may. And right now I’m enjoying the brown tones in this video.
COLOR GRADING IS HARD because not every clip has the same lighting. There are times that the lighting in one clip will change every five seconds especially if you’re outdoors. But between artificial and natural lighting I find natural lighting to be the best. It’s just beautiful, soft, and just not harsh to look at. A total joy to edit. I have a lot more to learn about videography and editing.
I want to keep uploading content until am comfortable enough in front of the camera and comfortable enough to take the risks.
Right now I’m really worried about this video flopping and not reaching my target audience. I’ll update this post on how everything goes. *fingers crossed*
