preface

hi:) My name is Emalii, and I am a second year master’s student studying Cell and Molecular Biology. Currently, I am researching DNA Repair in Tetrahymena. My dream is to go on to get a PhD in Cell Biology, and then teach at a University and do research! I have always had an affinity for organization and beauty, and the last year or so it has expressed itself in the form of note taking. I’m still exploring styles and learning, but hopefully I will improve over time:)

As an INFJ I definitely struggle with perfectionism and not just in the form of wanting everything to be perfect but actually never doing things because I know they won’t be perfect. However, I’ve chosen to just this once actually start something and see where it takes me so here we are.

Really digging my new desk in the grad office:) Had my first meeting of the semester with my P.I., and he never fails to throw 20 new ideas at me and then I have to sit down later and sort threw them to decide what is worth my time to do.

I never really got around to posting pictures from my research at the University of California-San Francisco so here are some belated pictures. From discovering that the addition of O-GlcNac to Lamin A is important to its abundance, to learning I actually am a scientist, and meeting some life long friends and colleagues, this was one of the most amazing experience of my life.

Life has been a big rollercoaster recently, I’m about to leave for a research internship, and then my boyfriend broke up with me. I got a teaching job, and then I had a panic attack for the first time in a while. Finals happened and now I’m recovering with nature. I love these pictures though. They heal my soul:) Wishing you all good luck with finals and school and a good summer in general:)

Here are some photos from when I visited Chicago during spring break. I am currently overwhelmed with the logistics of my summer internship in San Francisco, but I’m trying to remind myself of the moments shown in the pictures above. Adventure and unknown awaits which is scary, but makes life exciting. Stay tuned for some good research blogs this summer:) maybe I’ll even vlog a little!
