The apology dance is not an apology.
Don't see it? Let me explain.
There are things to love about Aziracrow's relationship, but there are a number of things not to emulate.
And the dance is one of them.
One of my favorite lines is that Crowley "doesn't do the dance."
And here is why you shouldn't to someone you love either.
Because it's not forgiveness. It's fake forgiveness, to let someone get away with doing the same thing to you over and over and over again and never learning.
Crowley doesn't do that. Because he learns. He questions and he learns. And he means it when he says he's sorry. And he doesn't lie to Aziraphale by doing a fake apology when he has no intention of not doing it again.
Aziraphale, with the dance, doesn't. He just wants qyickly forgiven so he can go back to doing whatever he wants.
How many times did he do the dance again?
How many times has he kept doing the same thing - the same hurtful thing - over and over and over again?
We don't know because Crowley interrupted him (fine!) listing off the many, many times he did it.
In the finale, Aziraphale asks him (like some expectant bastard) "should I do the dance for you."
"Oh, we are well beyond silly dances, angel."
And if you keep apologizing over and over for the same crap you do to someone over and over again and don't change... someone will be done with your silly dances, too.
Find it funny. Laugh out loud. Find it cute (and we all got to see David do it!)
But do not think this part of their relationship was so great.
Since Season One, their relationship, for as much as they love each other, had gaping holes in it.
Some so big you could drive a Mac Truck through.
And the apology dance is one of them.
The apology dance isn't a real apology. And it's not real forgiveness.
Love the characters. Love the laughs. Love the show.
But don't do that to someone you love in real life.
