I’m not turning my tumblr into a fandom blog, and usually I’m not one for reacting to series, but last nights’ Pretty Little Liars has finally driven me this far.
And I’m not pleased. But not particulary unhappy either.
Okay so basically I’m like 100% convinced that the finale we saw yesterday wasn't the finale as originally planned. Marlene said they came up with this -A back in season 3. It is true Cece turned up in season 3, but I don't think she was the initial Charles/A they wanted to reveal yesterday. Sure Cece had always been a shady character, and we all assumed she knew more than she told, but for her being the master mind behind all of this? Come on. We've seen her do some pretty messed up and stupid (!) stuff before, such as listening on Ezra's door wearing a black hoodie, she was the red coat that lured Emily to that factory where she almost got cut in half, Cece even got caught for killing Wilden. And that's just it, she GOT CAUGHT! Does it sound like A, who can built an entire real live doll house without anyone noticing, to get caught? I don't think so.Â
My guess is the master mind behind all of this is "doctor" WREN KINGSTON. The last months theories on Wren is A were dominating the pll fandom. Marlene and the writers have already admitted before that they read/follow our theories, so they must've panicked when they realised so many of us had discovered the mystery. Because next to all the drama, that's what this show is still all about; mystery. So in trying to keep the mystery going, certainly because meanwhile the show got renewed for yet another season, they decided to change the initial big reveal of Wren being A, to this Cece being Charles/A crap.Â
I don't think they've changed the whole plot though, just the importance in the story. I think Cece really is Charles. Charles as in Alison's brother who was send to Radley. Not as in Charles the master mind who tortured 5 girls. Cece/Charles is probably just working for A, but now lying for him either because 1) A is making her take the fall, or 2) she wants to be with her family (and find a way to stay out of jail idk), but most likely 3) because of both. Cece is lying about being A, not about being Charles.Â
She doesn’t know the exact timing of events that well, that’s why the timeline is messed up right now, because it isn’t the truth.Â
So basically they've changed Cece's story from being a side plot to the big reveal, in order to keep the mystery. This is the only explanation I have for this finale, because too many things just don't add up if Cece really is big A. The writers saying things as 'I don't care about the timeline' is BS and they know it. They know they've messed up. But by giving us lies right now instead of the truth, they are still capable of writing us the ending we deserve.Â
And when you read between the lines, you really find proof of an alternated finale. Because why would Marlene feel the need to express how thankful she is for Vanessa Ray (actress playing Cece) being able to have managed it while getting married (she just got married a month and a half or so back)? She was thanking her as if her scenes were unplanned. But oh wait, maybe they were. And I think the editors couldn't catch up fast enough, so that's why they made a two-week break in July, to give the editors time to re-edit the last two episodes. Also, tell me I'm not the only one who's noticed how poorly-made the sets were these last two episodes. The entire finale basically consisted out of two, very minimalistic, sets; that weird futuristic room and Radley. My guess is money wasn't the problem, but time was.Â
So let’s all hope this finale was just yet another distraction, and the real story will be saved for later.Â
And if not, I literally wasted 5 years of my life.
That’s about it.Â
Goodnight everybody.
(because it’s currently midnight where I live, oops)
