A bit of a tangent from usual posts

During WWI and WWII boats used this pattern known as "razzle dazzle" to hide in what direction they were moving.

This stems from cubism, in which camouflage was found by manipulating the eye. So, when you get the chance, thank Picasso and Braque.

This culminates in a painting such as this painted from two different angles, and a certain weight being felt from the solidity of it.

"The Stone Breakers" by Courbet is an example of Realism, especially in its tents of social justice since it was shown at the Paris Commune.

Pictured instead of lavish kings are real workers, and a concentration on the colors inherent in the working class- dull greys and browns.

It was, however, destroyed during WWII.
