My heart hurts, and I can not tell you why.

Not that you wouldn't understand, or that its unusual. It's still recent in the grief and the edges are sharp. It's the quiet and the solitude of the small times between friends and family where it presses down and amplifies and makes the sorrow LOUD.

It's knowing that beyond all the bullshit and fights and creativity and destruction there is only ever one outcome for everyone.

But it's the space between being born and the end of the story that matters most.

And grief, and the depth of your grief- is the depth of your love.

Love loudly. Love childishly and selfishly and be clumsy with it. Love with broad strokes and small weird awkward moments.

And take care of the love that others show you, and pass that love on.

We're all people doing people things.

‘Unprecedented’ global effort gives new name to polycystic ovary syndrome – and new hope to millions of women

Decades-long campaign powered by patient perspectives results in switch from PCOS – a name that caused confusion and undue suffering – to PM

a health policy paper has been published saying the name is officially updated to polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome (PMOS)

polyendocrine= multiple endocrine factors

metabolic = affecting/affected by metabolism

ovarian = from the ovaries

essentially, instead of using the symptomatic term (many people with PMOS do not develop cysts) the new term widens the diagnostic area and makes it easier to diagnose, treat, and do research on people with PMOS (even atypical types, such as no cysts).

it may seem like a waste of time to change a name instead of focusing on research, but for a lot of medical professionals a name can be associated with a hard set collection of symptoms, so the name needs to change to acknowledge that the disorder is not well understood and has a broader, subtler, and often missed set of symptoms. for example ADD is considered an antiquated/unused term, and now comes under the ADHD umbrella. in healthcare names and terminology changes all the time, and this is a positive change. your local healthcare professional may not know about this unless theyre really up on the news though!

FINALLY FINISHED !!!

I’ve been at this since like September. Originally the plan was to do five panels but by the time I reached three I realized it was absolutely going to be too heavy. If the back bothers me then I’ll just buy some black fabric and sew it on.

I pinned it excessively since I have been warned the feathers won’t flatten unless blocked aggressively. They still don’t behave themselves 100% but again, if it bothers me I’m willing to steam block it in the future. Super fun before and after pics.

Pattern is of course the feathered wings shawl by my favorite pattern designer craftyintentions.

Chimera Pup Redux No. 3

Almost exactly ten years ago I made a chimera pup - my cute take on a mythical combo of a lion, a goat, and a dragon, with a snake for a tail. After a decade of refining my techniques, I thought it was past time to revisit the concept and I’m absolutely delighted with the trio that came out of it! This one has a really gleeful prankster vibed to me, although it’s amazing they manage to do anything sneaky with such bright colors!
