I was wondering if you could tell me a little about the would No Times Days takes place in :3
I’ve also wanted to start a world building project of my own but have no clue where to start ^^
First of all, I will be excluding some stuff to avoid giving spoilers
The world of No Time Days is a heavily altered version of Earth thousands of years into the future. Both the landmasses and wildlife have changed dramatically in a relatively short amount of time.
The people that inhabit this world prefer to life in isolated places and higher ground to avoid the Night Creatures, which also causes for most of the civilizations formed to be small and unable to industrialize. However from time to time some of these settlements manage to form nations that although small, manage not only to industrialize but to rival the technology of today, unfortunately most of those civilizations collapsed.
The Youkun people (Kel’s ancestors) were once part of a great decentralized nomad empire, that was formed by the descendants of the nomadic people of today’s Mongolia. The empire itself grew fast because their nomadic life style plus their preference for flat terrain made them a natural counter to Night Creatures (which due to not being able to walk in sunlight, couldn’t keep up with them), however said empire would fragment with time due to the lack of centralization, creating small groups that either kept being nomads or settling down in strategic terrain.
The Youkun were one of the group that fragmented from it, initially adopting a seafarer life style on the archipelagos of the eastern extremity of the empire (today’s Pacific ocean and South America), until getting stranded on a island with “Him”, being unable to leave, forming the Village of The Grey Plateau as their new home.
The world of No Time Days is filled with ruins, some dating from before the “reset”, and others from settlements built after it, all of it simply being bundled up by their inhabitants simple as “The Ruins”.
The Ruins are known for being excellent places to scavenge and camp if you find a defensive position, however most of the people decide to avoid them as Night Creatures usually use their underground sections (sewage systems, subway lines, underground parking etc) as hideouts to stalk the humans above, waiting for the moment they get far from the sunlight to attack.
I could yap more about it, but I don’t think anyone is going to read all of this, lol
Also, about your own world building project:
Looking at fully realized worlds can be overwhelming and give you the wrong impression of where to start, so try to start with small “what ifs”, like “what if people instead of living in houses, lived mostly in boats?” and follow the “what ifs” with “whys?”, like “why they all live in boats? Earth flooded! Why? Someone stole a artifact from a ancient sea god”. Asking just two to three whys usually is enough, because if you try to go further than that, you will end up over focusing on a single point, and not making progress on the rest of the world.
Also, a world should operate under some kind of coherent logic, not necessarily the one from real life, but an internal one. For example in Witch Hat Atelier, magic operates in a simple but well thought out magic system, and thus every time someone has to use magic, they obey said logic, if Qifrey just decided to do a spell following Frieren’s spell logic (which bases itself on what a magician can “visualize” instead of write), all the world build would collapse on itself.
Also, if you’re using this world building project to carry a written story, with characters etc, make sure to focus on the characters and the story first. It’s very difficult to interest people in a world without giving something that they can “hold into”, be it a character or a good story, they will naturally make people become more interested in the world.
So, to summarize, keep it simple, have coherent rules and have someone or something to bring interest to the world.
Alright, I get that is all, feel free to ask more stuff if you have any questions or just want to learn more ( ^w^)
