Commission Batch 1

Gonna post commissions in batches from now on, so here’s what I’ve got thus far;

I’ve decided to leave all my reference sheets with white backgrounds, it makes it easier to see any text I add.

Drew Aree’s new reference sheet in December, and Trainer Brianna’s at the beginning on this year.

Christmas Gift Batch

So, I’ve got some gift art to post, so here we go~

First of the season was this chibi for @thegrinningkitten

The Next was a custom charm design for @idie970

Followed by this charm design for @alannahablar

Next was this drawing for a friend on Discord

Then this collab drawing by myself and BreIoom on Twitter for a mutual friend, I did the initial sketch and colors, she finished off the lines and refined the colors

And Last we have a gift to BreIoom from me of one of her OCs

In theory, I have two more gifts (possibly three) that I need to get done by tomorrow night, but I’m drained. So, let’s hope I have more to share tomorrow.

Yep, I’m one of those people that spent money to get early access, and I’m loving it. I’ve been posting all my personal art on Pillowfort as I draw it, so if you prefer that over commissions and fanart, it’s the best place to follow me at.

End-of-Year Art Feature

So, in the process of trying to make a collage of my favorite drawings of the year, I noticed I was missing about 4 months worth of my best art due to one of my work laptops dying. So, I instead decided to pick my favorite piece of the year, do a breakdown of it, and redraw it. I had 3 rules for myself, 1) It has to be from 2018 (doi) 2) It cannot be a preexisting redraw and 3) It needs to be of one of my OCs. With all that out of way, I present to you my favorite drawing of 2018 (below the cut)

This piece doesn’t have a lot going on and is no where near the best thing I drew around the time I made it (it was drawn and uploaded online on 05/17/18) but it is my favorite piece because of why I drew it. I drew this piece because on 05/15/18 I caught a shiny Horsea in Pokemon Platinum. 

It was the full 1/ 8092 odds and was caught while I was fishing Horsea for a Dragon Scale...so I could evolve one up into a Kingdra. Because Kingdra is my favorite Pokemon. That is why I picked this drawing above all the other options I had, because it hold a story to it I never thought I’d get to experience.

Ok, story aside, let’s get to the review of this drawing. 

First and foremost, I was lazy and didn’t draw a proper background. It’s so minimal, I can’t even really critique it, so have some salt overlaying the background (without the characters in it);

And now, we move to the characters, my Pokemon Trainer self and Kingdra. I’m not the best in in-depth analysis, so I’m just gonna tally off things that bug me;

-Kingdra’s dorsal fin is to thick, and should be narrower at the spine

-Brianna’s hair is less flowy and more poofy, it doesn't look like it’s in the water at all

-Her shorts are also not flowing like they are in water

-WHY NO FINGERNAILS?!

-The highlights don’t fit the underwater look at all, light doeskin go straight down when it hits water, so the highlight should reflect that

-Why lazy shading past me?!

Also a side note I thought of, it looks like Kingdra and Brianna are in open ocean, which is very cold, No smart water Pokemon trainer would be in a swimsuit like the one she is wearing, and she doesn’t have a re-breather either.

Overall, I drew this quickly and out of hype for the shiny I captured, and it lacks true details because of it.

Now, I have spent several hours over several days to redraw this correctly. I’m going to be honest, I wanted it more detailed, but with the holidays coming up and Paint Tool SAi literally starting to crash whenever I saved the file because of how big it is, I had to make due. So, here it is, the redraw this drawing deserved;

Now, this one isn’t perfect either, but it is greatly improved compared to the last. Again, I wanted more detail (like shading the corals and the Pokemon in the background) but SAI couldn’t handle this file, and I didn’t want to shrink it down any. There is at least one other thing that I want to fix sometime this week, but it’s super minor and something I honestly don’t think is noticeable (I only notice it because I spent hours on the section the issue is in and am mad I let it slip by me).

But yeah, there’s my end-of-year redraw, gonna make this a thing I do every year, it’s seems a lot more interesting then the collage idea.
