I am giving you permission to just chuck it all.
I promise
1. I promise the quieter you become and the more you quiet the noise around you, the more you are able to hear.
2. Take only what you need, the rest is only a burden.
3. If you havenât used it in the last year I promise you wonât miss it.
4. I promise through experience you wonât regret giving away an unused item.
5. I promise through experience youâll instantly forget the unused item you give away.
6. I promise youâll love the time, energy, money, space - both mental and physical so, so much more than the potential security of keeping a âjust in caseâ item.
If youâre struggling to part with un-used items, then try the packing party technique to at least get them out of your house/head quickly and without having to make any hard decisions. Once you've tasted the quiet you can then approach them with a clear mind that can focus more easily.
Youâve never regretted giving away unused items in the past
Youâve always immediately forgotten about them
Youâve always loved the time/energy/spaced that giving them away freed up so much more than keeping the item âjust in caseâ.
Statistically impossible
If you have 30 items that youâre keeping just in case but havenât used in the last year or two, then itâs statistically impossible that youâre ever going to need ALL of them. Yes maybe youâll need 1 or 2 or 3.....but never all 30, right? Do the math. Probabilities multiply and become an ever decreasing number. So what are you going to do? Sure, you could keep all 30. But why stop at 30? Why not 300? Or 3000? Surely thereâs a âjust in caseâ for everything? Or you could free yourself of all of them. Free up the matter and energy. Create time, energy, quietness and space - mentally and physically, for you to explore new things and allow new opportunities to flow into your life instead of being stuck and stagnant in the past. Yes you may need to repurchase a few things - but youâll only be repurchasing them when you need them and youâll get a version thatâs probably better and more efficient. Or youâll just make do with borrowing or finding a temporary alternative. Either way youâd have benefited more from NOT having those 30/300/3000 things around in your head than you would have from having them. Let go, and allow new energy into your life.
Take only what you need, the rest is only a burden.
1. Have you used it? If you havenât used it in the last year I promise you wonât miss it. Take only what you need, the rest is only a burden.
2. When exactly are you going to use it? Only keep things for a specific project you have in mind. (like materials)
3. Donât say âjust in caseâ. Itâs statistically impossible for ALL these items. You can easily, cheaply get a better version of the handful of things you might need. Youâve never regretted giving away anything in the past. Youâve always forgotten about the unused items you gave away, Youâve always loved the released time/energy/space (mental and physical) much, much more than the security of keeping the item âjust in caseâ.
4. Is it knowledge that you can benefit from?
5. Is it a better duplicate of something youâre already using?
Paperwork
It doesnât take up much room, but sorting it out takes time.
Save it for those rainy evenings and you can do it in front of the TV.
Make piles for:
keep/file
recycling
shred.
Get it done 2020
The most liberating piece of advice I got was: "If you haven't used it in the last year, you're not going to miss it." Â I feel like a free bird now. Â You don't remember the unused things you gave away. Â Never regretted a single thing. Â Never missed it. Â Loved the time/energy/space that came as a result much more than the feeling of security of having the 'just in case item' Â You feel lighter and more free. Â Ready and now able to actually live a meaningful life. Â I've wasted so many precious years managing and handling and sorting 'stuff'. Â I understand now what it means to be 'owned' by things.
Spring clean your life
Decluttering leads to new lease of life.
Clutter makes you anxious because brain needs to process it. Thatâs why packing party is so good because you get the benefit of minimalism that helps you then move forward with your life and tackle the boxes that remain.
Thatâs why decluttering whilst still being surrounded by your stuff is so so hard. Not only is the noise of the existing stuff there but on top of that you also need to somehow make decisions and deal with sorting and outgoings. Thatâs why people give up.
Once the living space is serene, the brain will follow.
Mental clutter can also be diminished by putting pen to paper. It pulls it out of emotion and into reality so you can focus on what small piece to work on. Writing things down pulls it out of your brain and stops it from circulating and creating noise. It creates space for inspiring, nurturing thoughts.
Chuck out anything that doesnât nurture you.
If only
You could realise how wonderful it is to have less stuff, then youâd be able to let go of unused items much more easily.
Youâre missing out on life.
Stop wasting time
There is the real life to come.
Have you used it?
No? Then you wonât miss it.
Youâll feel lighter and be able to carve out a better life with a clearer mind.
Would you need to buy it if you saw it in a store today?
God will provide.
Take only what you need.
The rest is only a burden.
You need to move: interest, orphans due, dream, new energy, work, Z.
The actual benefit youâll gain from giving away unused stuff is MUCH greater than the potential benefit of a âjust in caseâ item
A great talk getting us to think of having less so that we can live better quality lives.
Key
Stop wasting time.
Have you used it?
You wonât miss it.
God will provide.
Only keep stuff you use
Give away everything else
You wonât miss it
Youâll forget it easily
Can replace it easily if necessary
Youâll love the freedom. Time. Money. Energy. Space. Both mental and physical.
Liberating. Less weighed down. Canât remember what I gave away. Chance to get better things.
Are you in the spring cleaning mode and want to declutter your home, but have NO idea where to start? These 10 simple decluttering tips are
Honestly, you must get out of the mind frame âmaybe I could use this item in the future.â Nope! That packrat mentality isnât going to work if you want to make your home clutter-free. If you havenât used an item in the last year, it needs to go in a trash bag or donation pile.
The time-frame of a year works well because it allows you to make a decision about seasonal decorations and items. Over the course of a year, you should have the opportunity to use every item in your home. If you donât use something in twelve months, itâs time to simplify.
