Wonderfully Dreadful.
I can't imagine what my grandparents would think if they were alive to see how advanced technology has become. I truly think they would be mesmerized and terrified at the sametime. I understand that advancements in modern technology is relevant to the era one inhabits; Society creates the blueprints for the ever changing future of the world, but social media simply accelerates the demands from its users. I love the awareness and voice social media has given to racial equality, social injustice, body positivity and women's rights, but what about all the harm it has caused on the flip side. I believe social media has caused people to feel a false sense of entitlement and courge all while sitting behind a computer screen, a place where they feel safe to spew words of hate and bigotry. There is truly no rhyme or reason for “trolling” on the internet, the contradicting hashtags that condone hate and downplay the inequality happening all around us. The attacks people get when trying to do good on such platforms, i.e: their appearance, mental state, income and educational level. I think we all need to show some compassion for one another and stop “trollin” people because we are unhappy with ourselves. If we all took a step back in order to evaluate what good we bring to social media, 2021 might turn out slightly better.
