Pairing: Joel Miller/Female!Reader
Word Count: 6.5k
Summary: You wake up from what you think is only a nightmare. But when everything happens exactly the same way it did during said nightmare, you have to come to terms with the fact that the day is repeating itself.
Throughout the repetitions, you have to figure out how to make it out of Outbreak Day alive. How to save yourself. How to save who you can save.
More importantly, you need to figure out what series of events will break the loop. If anything even can.
“Stop right there!” A soldier yells.
You have to do what he says, even going so far as to raise your hands. He’s blinding you with the light on his gun as he points it at all of you.
“Please, we’re not sick,” Joel begs, clutching Sarah to his chest while you stay silent.
You watch as the soldier talks into his walkie. You don’t like what you hear.
“But sir—” the soldier says, but he gets cut off by his superior. “Yes, sir,” he eventually says.
You hear the resignation in his voice, and your shoulders tense. You slowly start to drop your hands.
The soldier raises his gun again, and Joel starts to shout. You try to step back, run away, push Joel and Sarah down the embankment behind you, but something hits you in the chest.
Pain blooms across your entire body, and you fall to the ground. Your vision starts to go dark, but you can hear the sound of another gunshot, of Joel screaming.
It hurts.
It hurts so fucking much.
But then it fades. Your pulse starts to slow, and you feel cold, so cold.
You can’t hear Joel or Sarah or even the soldier anymore.
.
.
You wake up to the sound of Sarah knocking on the bedroom door.
