Not sure if I bought this because the the tiger, the coffee or because it perfectly captures my sentiments about the fact that the gate river run is 2 months away and I haven't trained at all. #coffeeafterdark #runthiscity (at Duval County, Florida)

Put me in coach! I could show these boys a thing or two about smacking around some seminoles. 🐊👊🏽🏉 #fsuhateweek #snapthespear
We cannot choose our external circumstances, but we can always choose how we respond to them.

No one appreciates the genius of your conversation like a dog does. And when you have an 80 pound mammal licking your tears away and trying to climb in your lap, it's hard to be sad about anything. Rest easy, Buddy. No dog lived up to his name better than you did. You truly adopted us, not the other way around. Thank you for following two stray kids home and having the patience to stay on the porch all night while we convinced dad to let you stay. I you're demolishing some biscuits in heaven 💙

Life is hard and dissatisfying, so you have to get used to your circumstances, complain about them as little as possible, and grasp whatever advantage they have to offer: no condition is so bitter that a stable mind cannot find some consolation in it.
Seneca (via thebuddhistmind)
True happiness is to enjoy the present, without anxious dependence upon the future, not to amuse ourselves with either hopes or fears but to rest satisfied with what we have, which is sufficient, for he that is so wants nothing. The greatest blessings of mankind are within us and within our reach. A wise man is content with his lot, whatever it may be, without wishing for what he has not.
-Seneca (via essentiallystoic)
The stoic mindset.
And who is your master? Whoever has authority over anything that you’re anxious to gain or avoid.
Epictetus (via thisiskin)
Remember that all we have is “on loan” from Fortune, which can reclaim it without our permission—indeed, without even advance notice. Thus, “we should love all our dear ones …, but always with the thought that we have no promise that we may keep them forever—nay, no promise even that we may keep them for long.
Seneca (via deeplifequotes)
On Stoicism
There is a good deal of discussion on Stoicism nowadays, about how it may be applied and what it really means. A large many seem to believe that the sum of Stoic philosophy is to allow you to take all the misfortunes and slights that life and nature throw at you.
To the people who believe this, they see their use of stoicism as a great stone wall, standing strong and upright, holding back the negativity, knocking it off themselves. They see it as a headland, weathering the storm. But the wall will eventually fall, and the headland collapse into the sea.
The everyday application is not to weather the storm of life, it is to embrace it with total self-awareness. We should not be separating ourselves from nature, we should not be standing against it. What stoicism teaches is to act like a tree, swaying with whichever way the wind blows it. If the tree resists nature, its life, too firmly, it will lose a branch. Though this branch is lost, there the tree still stands, and the better for losing the branch that harmed it.
We should aim to accept and flow with natural order. Do not stand against misfortune and grief. embrace it, let it turn you as it will. All things that happen outside of ourselves are beyond our control, this stoicism teaches us to deal with. By being one with natural order, we are able to achieve an untroubled serenity and greater happiness.
Everything we hear is an opinion, not a fact. Everything we see is a perspective, not the truth.
Marcus Aurelius (via shtufffy)
