10 Dance Medicos Shinjuku Pop-Up Shop!

A new pop-up shop with 10 Dance merch, along with a new illustration of the Shinyas in gorgeous outfits, has been announced by Medicos! From March 19th to April 5th, these items will be available for purchase at the Medicos Shinjuku location. There will also be life-sized cardboard cutouts at the store!

After that, the items will also be available to order for a short time on the online Medicos shop, from noon of April 6th to April 20th.

Inoue-sensei quoted the announcement with a comment about creating these illustrations, saying that Medicos had many "clothing specifications" and that she tried to "capture a sense of extraordinary luxury that the two characters wouldn't normally wear". I personally am living for this brand new look of the Shinyas, even if Inoue wasn't used to drawing them like this!

Products sold: acrylic stands, pins, pouch, and tote bag! Illustrated cards, mini folders, and acrylic blocks are randomly packed but you can also buy the full set. For those who spend more than 1000 yen, a random illustration card will be included (pic 3), and those who spend over 3000 yen in person receive the special card with both Shinyas. I'm so excited to see them!

This whole scene hurts me from start to finish but the thing that hurts me most is actually the gentle way Sugiki is caressing Suzuki's face and holding it as if it's something so precious (it is) before finally letting go.

Inoue-sensei's Valentine's Day Illustration

Inoue blessed us with a new illustration of the Shinyas in celebration of Valentine's Day! It's the Shinyas being lovey dovey, Suzuki is trying to cover Sugiki with his shirt, and Sugiki is holding a bottle of alcohol. This could be a reference to the bottle of tequila Takeuchi Ryoma gifted Machida Keita during the 10 Dance day trip (available to watch on YouTube), and it's adorable!

Inoue-sensei is slowly moving her pictures from Twitter to Xfolio as an anti-piracy and anti-AI precaution. I couldn't download the original file, but here is a screenshot from Xfolio.

Every time I rewatch 10d opening scene, I always marvel over how much of a visual feast it is within just the half a minute. The panning shot showing you the reflections of the characters from THREE mirrors giving such a mysterious and surrealistic feel.

The moment it shows Sugiki doing Fusako's makeup and Fusako's black dress, I knew it was gonna be good. Having read the manga first, I thought it was such a bold choice putting this in the opening. Bold choice and a genius move because it would pique non-manga reader's interest.

Honestly that opening scene has all the ingredients for a great hook: from the Aristotle quote, the music, the cinematography, the narration. *chef's kiss* one of my most favourite opening scenes in movies I've ever watched.

I want to talk abt the sound design in this one particular scene in 10DANCE. The sudden silence for 5 seconds after Sugiki hears what Suzuki calls him really mimics the actual physical reaction someone may experience when receiving a shock.

When the sound returns, it's gradually amplified and again it mimics the aftermath of a shock where you can probably hear the sound of your own heartbeat getting louder and louder. In this scene, it's represented by the sound of the train approaching.

The sound design work combined with the expression he has is great in showing what Sugiki is feeling. The sound of train approaching being used again in the mirror scene with Suzuki is also great in reminding you that the train is probably a very special place for him.

10DANCE is a visual feast that much is true. I also think what makes this movie so good is also in the way sound is used, not just in the soundtrack or in the dance music, but in the sound design. It can actually tell you so much story even in the absence of it.

We've seen articles/comments/interviews from costume design, production & set design, and camera/lighting/DIT crews, I hope we can see interviews from the sound department as well bcs I really would love to know more about the behind the scene work in this movie.

..kind of realised from staring at this still that... Sugiki and Suzuki are still holding hands as they are looking at each other in the final scene where Sugiki tells Suzuki he'll see him at 10dance? Are they holding hands the entire time and only let go when Sugiki leaves? 🥹

this absolutely diabolically hilarious quote,

and the video interview where Takeuchi Ryoma answered "Machida Keita" when asked "which is sexier: passion or intelligence?"

"I feel it so intensely. Just by holding his hands, I can feel his emotions," is a line spoken by Suzuki and I think the way the movie shows what this means throughout is so potent that every time their hands meet, I can feel their emotions.
